We LOVE this bike!!! Not only does it look sick AF but it’s a dream to ride! SyFly, adventure puppy, and I have been ripping it up everyday since receiving it. Never thought of drilling the cable stops to avoid contamination! I'll do that at my next project. And then i have more color popping since i'm a sucker for colored cables 🤩
I had occasional shifting issues. One day I got pissed off and drilled the cable stops. No issues since.
You can buy adapter clips that mount in the cable stops and hold your full uncut cables next to them. Pretty handy if you dont want to drill.
I'm just running zip ties next to the cable holders holding my cable lol
@@dansacco1964 Zip ties are far better option as with adapter all cables slack a lot.
l have an old gravel bike l might have to do this to the shifters and maybe the rear brake too ...

Those trees on the original paint job are absolutely awesome! Quite an undertaking you did on this one. Been there, done that a couple times over on my dad's first "MTB", an old '92 Giant (now commuter bike). Also, I drilled out my shifter housings like you did years ago on a different bike. Much better that way.
If she grooming Oscar more than one time for free, Seth clearly is the winner in that deal.

yes, those old MZ forks sound like that. I have an 2006 MZ 66 and I'm used to the "squishh" sounds its rebound cartridge makes;
*my 26 bike was very similar to this specialized, when I got it. it's a cannondale chase hardtail.

That's such a cool do It all bike! It looks like it performs good on long all day rides, tours, bikepacking, dirt jumps, pumptracks, bikepark, trails and normal city rides! That's like the best bike, if you can only have one bike. And for that price, if you do anything yourself, its the best.

Great job done! 2 years ago I spent some time on a restauration of an old cannondale hardtail. Spent a lot of money and I wouldn‘t get it back when selling it. But it was worth all of it just the fun I had. Now I‘m almost finished with am old Specialized FatBoy.

This was GREAT! I have a 2000 Hard Rock in a medium. I changed it up to a 1X9 and I love it but now my wife is riding it. She really needs it in a small. I've been looking for the same bike but every one I find is like $400 +. By the time I restore it for her I am into new bike territory. The search continues.

Seth, I started watching your channel a little over a year ago. It prompted me to start biking again. I went on marketplace and scoured a 2008 Specialized Hardrock comp in orange, similar to this one. ( I traded my RC car for it. Then shortly after subscribing, you uploaded an RC video. All I could think was " Go figure ". ) I went from 3x to 1x, and rebuilt 2005 Marzocchi DropOff IV forks. ( They go SQUISH SQUISH.) This episode was especially relatable. It's good to know the same Alex rims I have can go tubeless. And that drilled cable routing idea, absolutely genius!!!
Anyways, I would just like to say, THANK YOU for all the dope content and endless knowledge. I'm always looking forward to the next video.

@@levimadden6490 yeah he did to try out more things, but now almost every bike build that he’s doing is using box parts so he may as well work with them again, saving a lot on flip bike
My son had the same model (cheaper forks) as his second bike, it was a really good ride for it’s time.
If you're using coloured rotor bolts, I recommend alternating colours. Looks cool and helps you keep your index when torquing them down.
I would love to see a video of Oscar being groomed, maybe on Berm Peak Express, kind of like when you made omelettes
Bike theft is such a big issue. Could you do a video on this? Possible ideas on how to prevent this or gps tracking devices that could go on a mtb. Thanks for all the awesome videos!

Surely rattle canning the majority of the parts wont be as durable. Imo rattle canning anodized bars isnt ideal, paint will just wear off and it wont look the best.

3:30 I love the thought and effort behind these, but I really wish you’d put on an n95 mask when you’re painting, most spray paints are terrible for our lungs.
Seth, I just wanted to thank you for all the great videos and content. I decided months ago to get back into cycling but knew I didn't want to ride on the roads. Your videos really helped educate me and I knew I wanted a hardtail as well but didn't want to break the bank. I bought a 2022 Kona Mahuna which I've really enjoyed. I'm also in NC and look forward to exploring some easy trails here around Raleigh. Thanks again and keep up the good work !

I had the same frame, it was a large 29er. Loved it when I got it built and together how I wanted it.. Some hoodlums broke into my garage and stole it. A few weeks later I got it back all messed up spray painted black. I repainted it, fixed everything and put some new disc brakes on it. Got stolen AGAIN! I've had multiple bikes stolen. My specialized, a Kona Coiler, my fit Eddie v2, an Eastern DJ bike and probably forgetting 1 or 2.🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️

This has got to be my new favorites RUclips series, seriously love it. Could you all do an episode on the tools needed to do these sorts of upgrades to bikes?
I have been thinking to do this, maybe not parts upgrades, but just fixing old bikes and giving them away. I had a neighbor give me a bike he no longer used for my daughter but it was too big for her. So instead, I fixed it up, tuned it up, got it functioning properly and planned to donate it to a second hand store.
While traveling to a store, I happened across a poor couple, the lady with a bike and the man walking along side her, both filling a wagon with cans and bottles to trade at a recycler. I decided to give the bike to the man so they could both cover more ground together and collect the recyclable goods better.
When I gave them the bike, I immediately got feedback of what a right decision it was. The man began to tear up. He wiped his eyes and shook my hand, telling me how much he appreciated it.
I didn’t plan this out, but discovered the power of mobility and freedom can really effect someone, not just to do what they were doing better, but just the freedom itself. I really feel lucky that I happened across that couple to give them that bike.
This bike is sick! This paint and design are amazing! I wish we had bikes like this now but all we get is flat paint with no design at all. Thanks for post it!
