When he said $450 I was genuinely shocked, with a the frame cleaned up like that and shiny parts I think he could easily have asked $600 and sold for ~$550.
That bike would've definitely sold for 600. There's no competition for a bike like this. He should seriously market these bikes as refurbished so they would gain more interest.
The used market in North Carolina has kinda off cooled off, I think your right at about the 500-550 mark any more and I think it would take a long time to get rid of it
Great series! The value of the used pieces should be adjusted to a “new price on the current market” so all of us with out spare parts can see the real cost or upgrading our used bikes into solid rides.
Not sure though, you can wait for used parts but it could take a while. Maybe he should do two lists, one with his cots and maybe one with brand new. But it doesn’t make sense to do brand new list, when your on a budget.

I am a bike enthusiast to the point I haven't owned a car in 11 years. Bikes are expensive and are usually at a price point I will just move along until I find one that fits. My point is I don't like overpaying for bikes knowing that at the heart of most $200 bikes is a beast that can be brought out with some well chosen components and like you I have years worth of good components in my bike barn to put to good use. I think $600 would have been more than fair for this Kona - it's a Kona and that alone is a premium that can be safely added to the value of the bike. $450 was a steal knowing how much detail and time you put into these bikes - you are a stud man - keep 'em coming and going!
This bike looks really good. I'm glad you kept the original colours and paint and just clearcoated it. The black pedals are also nice. It's a bike that doesn't scream "look at me". I'm sure the new owner will be quite happy. Got me thinking about a second hand Kona hardtail myself now!
Great series Set! Love the "bike flipping" idea! On the result of your work: please do make it more realistic! The casette and derailer from the last 2 videos are way above the value your list them for! If you can show me a 10s cassette, chain and derailer for 35 USD, send me couple of those please! Also, please list the hours of work you have spent on the repairs. Market value for components+ hours of work as cost estimate would make the whole series even more enjoyable! Looking forward for the next episode! Great job again!
My guess is: he already has them laying around. So this isn't what the cost of that part is in a shop, it's about the value of that specific part for him. And he still gets to keep the old part, that might get used in a way older bike somewhere down the road?
The parts he put on are way undervalued and not even to mention the time ... good luck finding any of those parts for what he said. He’s basically working practically for free if he didn’t monetize the video.

I've tried this myself and flipping bikes does work good. The most money I made on 1 bike was 450 euros. After a few tries you get a pretty good eye for it and for the price. I believe Seth could've sold it for 500-600 bucks.
I rebuilt a 2k5 Kona Hoss Dee-Lux a few years ago. My brother moved into a new house and it was at the back of the garage all busted components and unloved looking. I stripped it down to a bare frame, resprayed in bright green and rebuilt with all new components. It is still my most ridden bike.
Seth, you are a genius. Not only you make some bucks by refurbishing bikes, you get views out of it, do what makes you happy, you justify a Part of the investment you made for your bikeshop and you keep your Channel dynamic. Especially the last one is something i was afraid about, since older Lifestyle channels are prone to keep their content as is for the lifetime of the Channel which leads to a decrease of attention of the viewers. I wish you had a Channel when you where leading your Software Company so i could learn some things from you.
When I heard the price I involuntarily jumped up to go buy it lol. You could have gotten at least another $100..easily. Love this channel....love the humbleness and honesty.
Seth, I rewatch these old flip bike videos because I like working on my old bikes and your videos inspired me. I wish you would continue this series. I have upgraded a 2006 Santa Cruz 26er Heckler and my 1987 Giant ATX-780 hardtail both with TRP disk brakes, new Rock Shox Recon air forks and SRAM NX/GX 1 x12 drivetrains with wider bars and shorter stems and they are both a blast to ride.

I'm saying definately worth the asking price, and it will go to the first buyer when they see it. Good job...prolly $550-$600. Money ain't everything...putting out quality workmanship, and a great channel...money can't buy that. You're very clever and have a good eye for detail. Have a great day.
Hey Seth, absolutely love your videos man. Just got my mtb a couple months ago and hit a few trails since then. I’m realizing the bike isn’t exactly as I’d like but I don’t have the bike knowledge to know how to tune everything to my liking. I was curious if you had any videos about tuning the more tedious parts. If not, maybe you could do a video about that in the future. Again, really love the videos and I give full credit to you for my new obsession. Thanks man!
I'd love to see "time spent" in your valuations. I know you make money on the video aspect, but the average home mechanic would not. How many hours were spent?
Yes, this is why I think his cost are on the low end. He won't be putting a 3x on any bike so unless he sells it separately, it holds no value. So the price of the parts is actually higher
@@lukepw08 I cant remember any brands in particular, all I remember was using some during a college course about cars. im sure its common enough to find one that works though. im sure the known brands like meguires or autoglym will have them. Hey Seth Please do more bikeflip videos as they are so fun to watch. I took this as an inspiration and made a flipbike myself. This is seriously one of the best video series I've seen on RUclips so far.
I bought a bike on FB that had tar all on the underside of the frame, BB, and chainstays. Goo Gone worked like a charm, just let it set for 30 seconds, then I used a toothbrush to agitate, then just wiped it off with shop rags. I dig this restoration/flipping series, keep them coming!

I really appreciate these types of videos. I used to mountain bike when I was a kid. But I got out of it. I still own my 06/07 Trek Fuel 70. Its a medium frame. I'm guessing we bought it while I was still expected to grow... turns out, my body decided 5'4 was the best height and I should be on a small frame. I'm slowly getting back into the game. Seeing 1. the prices of these new bikes, and 2. not knowing if I'm really going to go hardcore into this sport again, I appreciate the fact that you are showing the audience that you don't have to have the top of the line equipment to get rolling. Eventually, I'd like to get a bike that fits me better. But I'll ride this until I decide if upgrading is worth it. Thanks for sharing some inspiration!
Man i remember 2 years ago. I used to watch u shredding trails, now i see you only making bikes and upgrading bikes But still that so cool i love watching your videos🤜🏼🤛🏼
I used to work in road construction, specifically applying joint sealant. When you get tar on a bike (or car) just apply gojo hand cleaner. Don't use the kind with pumice, it will scratch the paint. Little elbow grease and soft cloth will remove the tar. Lanolin dissolves it. Nicely
i flipped bikes when covid first shut us down and made lots of money. now everyone is doing the same so good deals are hard to come by. tips ive learned for max profit: 1) buy good looking bikes, its true looks sell. also wash the bike, youd be surprised how much better a bike looks to sell when its clean. 2) have some cheap parts you can swap 3) buy bikes with modern parts like a 1x to save you expensive swaps. 4) find things wrong with the bike to negotiate price down to increase profit margin 5) even if nothing wrong, ask if they can do better. negotiation skills have made me countless profits 6) please dont be the person that sells bikes so much over retail, be reasonable with your pricing. keep the mtb community a community. 7) know some very basic fixes at least like adjusting brakes and derailleurs so you can fix bikes quickly and save time and money instead of sending it to the shop. much love 🤙🏼💥

It's so heartwarming when Oscar watching you fixing bikes...
It’s great to see how inventive you are with your content. Your bike flips are a highlight of my evenings before I go to bed.
Seth this series has inspired me to embark on a journey of my own. Thank you! Continue pumping out these great vids
Been waiting for this, loving this series!
I think you definitely undervalued the parts and time you put into this bike, but regardless this was one of my favorite builds yet
time is covered by what he will make from youtube once the video is uploaded ;)
@@brapamaldi parts are ridiculously undervalued, giving them away at a loss essentially
@@stevendegreef93 not really a loss when you consider that at the end of the day he profited big time with the video. if it wasnt made into a video then yeah, massive loss.
I don't know anything about bikes, but I love watching you fix them up.
Literally my favorite videos to watch. I love seeing something used brought back to life for someone else to enjoy. You are legit my favorite subscribe, buddy!
I've tried this myself and flipping bikes does work good. The most money I made on 1 bike was 450 euros. After a few tries you get a pretty good eye for it and for the price. I believe Seth could've sold it for 500-600 bucks.
Best series from Seth!
Kevin always being an MVP, love him
I rebuilt a 2k5 Kona Hoss Dee-Lux a few years ago. My brother moved into a new house and it was at the back of the garage all busted components and unloved looking. I stripped it down to a bare frame, resprayed in bright green and rebuilt with all new components. It is still my most ridden bike.
love this series! Giving my great ideas on affordable upgrades for hardtail.
I love this series Seth! Please make more!
Doing a Great Job Seth. Love the series
Ok Seth, you’ve got me hooked . What do you think about building a gear box bike?
I love how the bike looks, I would've probably buy it if I was from America :)
Love this series Seth keep up the great work
Seth hasn't done a trail build in a long time- I think it's time for a few more of 'em!
True but these are also gold
Seths content is just gold
He said in one of the earlier flip videos that the weather was horrible and too wet for trail building.
If you watch his Instagram there was really bad flooding in his area and he decided to postpone his berm park video
We want to trail build too! The rain has been catastrophic here in the East, but things are looking better now.
this flip bike series always makes it to the trending page, I hope seth makes more! this is really both entertaining and educational at the same time!
Love this series❤️
Need to add in the most valuable commodity to the cost calculation: Time.
If you enjoy the process he went through its practically another hobby
a pluber unclokgs someone toilet takes 1 hour of his life allmost no tools or equipment and will allways charge you more than 250 dollars if its wasnt for the youtube money this guy would pretty much make no money
@@MrRafagigapr if you watch "this guy" 's channel, you'll know that he pretty much likes messing with bikes. its a hobby, not a job. I've never met someone that said unclogging toilets is their hobby
Seth need to start flipping all these on the airbag. You know, for science
Thank you very much my brother for sharing his stories, keep the spirit. Greetings One hobby, greetings, two pedals from Indonesia for cycling.
Awesome buy for that fortunate buyer...when you said $450 and lined up 3 buyer's just in case the first said no.
Me too. Just scraping tar could be hours..
With the way this series is going, will you ever run out of spare stuff, for example rear cassetts
he's eventually gonna run out of 1x chainrings cause he's never gonna let a bike leave his place with a 3x
Oooh am I allowed to call 3x/2x 11-28/32 cassettes obsolete, at least for mtb?
If so he’s just collecting a box of junk.
Or mtb art hopefully!
Yes, this is why I think his cost are on the low end. He won't be putting a 3x on any bike so unless he sells it separately, it holds no value. So the price of the parts is actually higher
Please do more of these flip bike videos, they’re very fun to watch
This is an amazing series. Should definitely be a big time show with a following.
Loving Oscar's harness - I'm here to break shit!
I knew that I wasn’t the only one who saw it!!!
Lol I like how Oscar looks back at the camera !
this is like back then the days when we all watch pimp my ride
would reccommend getting some tar removing car cleaner, works wonders.
Really? I have that same problem on my bike. What brand would you recommend?
@@lukepw08 I cant remember any brands in particular, all I remember was using some during a college course about cars. im sure its common enough to find one that works though. im sure the known brands like meguires or autoglym will have them. (I THINK my college used autoglym, but i cant say for sure)
@@garchompy_1561 ok thank you so much
Hey Seth
Please do more bikeflip videos as they are so fun to watch.
“I’m here to break shit” 😂🤣
"It has an okay drivetrain"
Me: Oh he's actually going to keep it stock now to save money and have bigger profits.
*Completely upgrades the drivetrain*
Me: Oh
Wow I'm the first view
Gg
Sick
Your the first comment
Probably the best series you have ever created good job very entertaining :)
I sold my 2004 Kona Hoss this past year for $180. It needed a total tuneup and I don't have the skills for that. I loved that bike.
Just bought myself an MTB. So video like this really exposes me on how to maintain and prepare me for future upgrades. Thx man.
This series is great! Thanks for all the hard work you put into your channel.
Man i remember 2 years ago. I used to watch u shredding trails, now i see you only making bikes and upgrading bikes
But still that so cool i love watching your videos🤜🏼🤛🏼
This is the best set of videos Seth has done. Super entertaining to watch!
That morale patch on your dog's harness is hysterical! Great video buddy 👍👍✌️
Very much enjoying myself watching these videos. Right up my alley. Thank you so much.
P.S.Tar can be wiped off with petrol or kerosine. (mostly)
Feedback appreciated🙏
I have a presnt for you 🎁 ☝👆..
I used to work in road construction, specifically applying joint sealant. When you get tar on a bike (or car) just apply gojo hand cleaner. Don't use the kind with pumice, it will scratch the paint. Little elbow grease and soft cloth will remove the tar. Lanolin dissolves it. Nicely
Been thinking about doing this flip bike thing for awhile now... This series is the encouragement i needed to finally get started
i flipped bikes when covid first shut us down and made lots of money. now everyone is doing the same so good deals are hard to come by.
tips ive learned for max profit:
1) buy good looking bikes, its true looks sell. also wash the bike, youd be surprised how much better a bike looks to sell when its clean.
2) have some cheap parts you can swap
3) buy bikes with modern parts like a 1x to save you expensive swaps.
4) find things wrong with the bike to negotiate price down to increase profit margin
5) even if nothing wrong, ask if they can do better. negotiation skills have made me countless profits
6) please dont be the person that sells bikes so much over retail, be reasonable with your pricing. keep the mtb community a community.
7) know some very basic fixes at least like adjusting brakes and derailleurs so you can fix bikes quickly and save time and money instead of sending it to the shop.
much love 🤙🏼💥
I would say the time you put into the flip bike is priceless. I have never got a bicycle that is tuned up and ready to use.
