The alternating frame technology has actually been around for a few years. Many 3d tvs implemented this. They are very rare nowadays but we still have one. It has 100hz, displays two slightly different images at 50hz each with alternating frames, and the 3d glasses are synced to it to show one image to one eye and the other image to the other eye. Your brain then turns that into a 3d image. The tech behind this is really fascinating.
My decade old Playstation 3DTV has this tech too. You would need another set of Active 3D glasses, but with it would can see two different images on the same screen.
It's also used in football ⚽ matches. The LED-Ad banners work the same way and different regions in the world will get to see different (more relevant) ads on their TVs. While for the spectators in the stadium it's the local ads.
The reason why I always come back to watching your videos even thought I'm not as techy and in the know as I used to be, is because of your enthusiasm and excitement over these new technologies. I find myself matching your energy when you start to talk about the crazy implications of what could be possible and I think that's why I feel you're the best tech reviewer, PERIOD. It's funny how this is s ort of a return to old school style techniques on having a real background that can move (but just printed on paper on rollers etc) but just much more high tech.
I've had the Eight Sleep pod and topper since December last year and I will say that the set up is pretty hellish if you have a large/king size mattress. There were also some hiccups on the setup with WiFi and stuff, but eventually when I got it all settled, it's been great! I also have used and still have the BedJet which uses air to do the same thing. There are pros and cons to each. The Eight Sleep is definitely better at cooling the bed evenly since the whole thing is lined with the water channel, while the BedJet has a hose that you route into one spot of the edge of your bed. They have the "cloud sheet" that I have that'd designed to help disperse the air more evenly, and it does, but not completely to the extent the right sleep can. However, one big difference for me is the speed at which the two devices can cool/heat the bed. The BedJet can make the bed cold or warm very quickly, while the eight sleep takes some time to actually cool or heat the water and get it flowing through the entire topper. At this point I do rely on the Eight Sleep just doing it's thing on autopilot and it keeps me comfortable most nights. Once in a while I might be a little extra hot and I use the BedJet to cool down the bed more quickly when I get in. They're honestly both great systems. I like that the BedJet had a dedicated remote. The Eight Sleep doesn't, so if you wake up and feel like adjusting it, you have to turn on your phone screen and use the app to do so. This actually turned out to be less of a drawback than I expected since autopilot really does a good job - I don't have to adjust it much ever really. Though, for the price, I do wish they'd include a simple remote for quick adjustments. All in all though I can recommend it. It is pricey, but worth the luxury if you are a hot sleeper or someone like me who goes back and forth waking up hot or cold at times. The BedJet as well I can recommend highly if you're on a tighter budget. It costs a lot less but does a great job too.
it looks like its impossible to use 8sleep without a monthly subscription. if true very predatory and anti consumer. why does everything need a monthly subscription these days?
The Virtual production stuff was already all over the internet for some time now but the idea of using higher frame rates to shoot with multiple cameras was not covered a lot. WOW
Man, I am so glad you don't to the cliche "surprised face" thumbnail photo for your videos. This is a great review as always. Always deliver! Gonna look into this phone now.
The tech for the virtual film screen is both crazy awesome and yet a retred. Some of the 3D TVs launched 10ish years ago would allow parties to watch two different inputs in the TV by fixing one color to input X and the other color to input Y, where the glasses had a way to set the desired color channel vs traditional Blue/Red at the same time.
Completely agreed. The 3D glasses lacked not only the sophistication but also the use cases. Nevertheless, I was just noting the every use of the broad idea has been around.
Ok the alternating frame bit is so genius tho; i can see multiple family members with tech goggles looking at the same tv but watching completely separate shows.....
This was done before with the PlayStation tv from when the ps3 was out. It was a 3d tv and with support 2 people could play local multiplayer on the whole screen without seeing the other’s. Not many games supported the feature if I remember and rarely anyone bought a PlayStation tv, so the idea never took off. Cool tech regardless. Edit: it was the PlayStation 3D display. I got the name mixed up with a different device which was called PlayStation tv.
That's essentially the same concept behind 3d TV's, but the shutters on the glasses alternate to give different images to each eye. I imagine with a small tweak, you could have two pairs of glasses give different images to two viewers. Everyone would need their own headphones too, of course. It sounds really cool, but for the amount of cost and effort, it's probably easier for the second person to just watch their show on a phone/tablet/computer or a different TV.
Yeah they've already done is, it was kind of a flop. People don't like wearing glasses at home nor did people really understand the point of watching two separate shows on a TV
@@EoRdE6 It had potential, but Sony was (as usual) terrible at execution and marketing. It was proprietary tech that required a display specifically for that, the display itself had subpar quality (24" screen was pretty bad even back in the days), the remote control had to be purchased separately, the SimulCast feature that they were so proud of wasn't usable out of the box because it contained only one pair of 3D glasses (so you need to buy another pair and they weren't cheap). Worst of all, most developers weren't on board and couldn't be bothered to make games with this feature, since 3D entertainment was dying, and local multiplayer was also dying out in favour of online multiplayer (fighting games being the only exception since it doesn't need split screens).
The nothing phone LEDs make me miss the old Samsung multicolor notification LED. You could see from across the room what app had notified you. I still remember my key ones, yellow for Snapchat, red for gmail, blue for texts.
I love how he says he is allowed to only show the glyph at the back and while using the interface seamlessly shows us the front using glyph settings @ 14:50 ! Which confirms the Center punch hole with lesser overall bezels in a slightly bigger 6.7 inch screen in NP2 compared to side punch hole n thicker bezels in NP1! Thank you MKBHD!
15:05 I like how I paused the video here and instantly thought of using it for the Pomodoro technique only to unpause it to literally hear Marques mention the Pomodoro technique xD
Back in 2011, this concept of showing multiple different images to different cameras was first introduced in the Sony PlayStation TV 3D Display, It had a feature called Simul View which allowed 2 persons wearing the 3D glasses to see their very own 2 separate videos at the same time 🎮
Although whatever you say , there is this basic marketing strategy for newer brands to establish a identity and if they do any drastic change in design of phone it'll be countering that phenomenon and hence staying with og nothing phone design suits better for their company not you brain-dead
That screen and all the cameras being able to sync to different frames for different views is freaking wild. Thinking about it after, it almost seems like an obvious possibility but seeing that actually happen is crazy. I'm really hoping you make some sort of use for this tech at the studio cause I want to see more videos using it and about it even if it is crazy expensive

Usually I think of phone stuff like that as gimmicks but somehow this one feels different cause they're trying and adding to it and not ditching it the next year
My problem is that the specific features on the Nothing Phone do not look very intuitive. The more feature are added, the worst it can get. 99% of the user will not want to remember what each of those different lightning pattern on the back of the phone means.
Last year I was able to demo one of the few XR stages at the time at SCAD in Atlanta and I was blown away. At the time though they were not able to shoot with more than one camera; that is just on an entirely new level
Does anyone understand how insane it is to have a resting heart rate below 40? I knew he did ultimate frisbee but he's a real deal athlete with a heart rate like that.
Marques is fit, but he probably has a bit of bradycardia too. It's not that uncommon. He's generating too much content to he training like a pro, tho the exercise definitely brings things down. I'm hardly an elite athlete. I do a lot of yoga, go out dancing sometimes, walk a lot, am vegetarian, don't drink, smoke, do caffeine, or do drugs anymore. 47 years, 145lbs,5"10. My resting heart rate often drops to the high 40s. It can be a pain sometimes as I'll need to push to do something vigorous to not feel fatigued all the time
I didn't even notice that, or understood that that's normal. My lowest RHR has been in the mid/high 50's and I only exercise moderately and thought THAT was low. My wife has trouble getting below 70's, but she has anxiety and depression.
I guess that's where all the PlayStation 3D display tech went! For context, in 2011, this 1080p display was released and by using active shutter glasses (which basically are doing the same thing as the cameras here), two players could see entirely different content (imagine mario kart, but the entire screen for yourself). It's pretty similar to how some 3d tvs worked, but instead letting you see alternating images, each person would only focus on a specific half.

I am digging the lighter grey color personally. But I do remember that Carl said the obvious iPhone 11/12-ey ness of the 1 would go away and that was more of an initial comfortable reference, but this visually looks like 89% the same as the first one. Also the blend of flat back to rounded edges feels slightly clumsy, almost like an attempt to get ahead of Apple going that way with the 15 lines, but I think Apple's is going to follow more pleasing ratios, the secret of which their products often look "right"
On the rare cases that Marques did flip the phone it is seen that it is different in a way, perhaps with the ratios. It looks more like OnePlus 8t. That is a first glance of course. I dislike a lot that they decided to copy the iPhone 12 design with the first gen, because they antagonized a lot of the Android fandom that way. Hardcore Android fans doesn't want their phones to look like iPhones and the others are either Samsung or Apple users already. They are fighting against Chinese brands and Pixel at the moment. In the future I would love to see Apple and Google dominating their respective OS segments with Samsung and the rest being somewhat of a compromise.
I did a short stint at a prototyping/rnd place and got the opportunity to play with those led walls using unreal engine. It was a pretty cool experience. I honestly would be working there if they paid better. It's going to be pretty crazy when these start becoming more accessible in terms of the production cost to shoot a great variety of videos and scenes. Things that used to take a lot of effort in post and would necessitate reshoots if the shot was just off enough now either take way less time due to being shot live or due to the director gaining the ability to see a glimpse into what the final shot will look like while shooting. Virtual production and LED walls as a killer accessory are making absolute waves right now. It's really awesome tech and honestly, I really believe we'll be seeing some accessible solutions to this within the next 5-10 years for smaller content creators.
A mobile phone with lights in the back may seem flashy, but sometimes simplicity is the true mark of sophistication. In a world filled with distractions, a phone that focuses on delivering a seamless user experience without unnecessary embellishments can be a breath of fresh air. After all, the true brilliance of a mobile phone lies in its ability to connect us effortlessly, not in its exterior illumination

@@Ko_onstantinthat sounds like the spectators would get a mixed image of both

Thanks for this. I've looked into Bed Jet. Definitely cheaper than Eight Sleep.
it looks like its impossible to use 8sleep without a monthly subscription. if true very predatory and anti consumer. why does everything need a monthly subscription these days?

The tech for the virtual film screen is both crazy awesome and yet a retred. Some of the 3D TVs launched 10ish years ago would allow parties to watch two different inputs in the TV by fixing one color to input X and the other color to input Y, where the glasses had a way to set the desired color channel vs traditional Blue/Red at the same time.
that’s different though using glasses rather than being the real output
Completely agreed. The 3D glasses lacked not only the sophistication but also the use cases. Nevertheless, I was just noting the every use of the broad idea has been around.
That 60 + 60 screen is amazing stuff!! The level of precision required to make that happen must be incredible.
Why not just watch different TVs. Goggles, headphones... Just watch something different, or better yet, watch the same thing together like I used to.

Yeah this casual mention of a RHR of 40 bpm blew my mind. At the level of elite athletes :O

Omg I love Nothing's CEO. He's so honest. Let's just support him for that!

Also the blend of flat back to rounded edges feels slightly clumsy, almost like an attempt to get ahead of Apple going that way with the 15 lines, but I think Apple's is going to follow more pleasing ratios, the secret of which their products often look "right"
yes
How does it look 89% the same looks unique to me
89%? Can you explain the math bruv?
MKBHD is a legacy content creator! The best in the game! No one tops his consistency!
