In Chicago, we eat deep dish with a fork. In the restaurant the sausage deep dish has a layer on sausage on the crust topped with the cheese, sauce, and whatever other topping you want. So good. The pizza served in the restaurant is better than the frozen version.
I'm from Chicago and eat deep dish all the time and have never ever ate it with a fork nor have I ever seen anyone else doing so. I pick it up like a regular slice and take a bite lol
Deep dish is best in the cold winter. It helps warm you up
@@painexotic3757 I'm from Chicago, and you are surrounded by weird people. Most people eat deep dish with a fork.
@@shanecasey8365 Who is "most people"? Any stats on that. I've never seen anyone eat it with a fork, even at restaurants. I only use a fork to eat up the stuff that obviously would fall off the pizza when you finish the slice.. But sitting there and cutting it up like it's a piece of cake is just odd.
Because its not pizza. Its a bread casserole! Its shit!
Thank you so much for trying those pizzas first for us viewers
You are welcome :)
Hi.
This pizza is often on ‘super-sale’ at the grocery store. Problems:
It’s wet, crust gets hard, center is under cooked, and fall-apart
consistency, etc. Here’s how to do it: Start with 100% room temperature pizza
still in the plastic. It helps to take
it out of the freezer the night before.
From here it will take 2 hours!
On a round Pyrex pie baking dish, place
aluminum foil. Cut the pizza out of
the plastic. Place pizza in baking
dish. Crimp the foil around the outer
edge crust of pizza. Bake at 270
degrees (not convection) for one hour.
After that one hour, turn the oven totally off. Do not open the oven door. Just leave the pizza in the oven for one more
hour - just sitting there. After that
one hour, you are ready to eat…….Enjoy.
I think I will try it your way tomorrow and report back for others. Second opinion.
@@robbyddurham1624 Well...we're waiting...
@@booch326 I forgot all about this.
@@robbyddurham1624 So we'll have your review Sat or Sun???
I am doing this tonight
The history is they hired an African American women the worked for 15 years at a previous Chicago pizza joint she had a very intricate labor intensive dough recipe lol. A secret dough “conditioner“ ingredient to make the dough soft and not dense.
Looks pretty tasty and filling, I like cornmeal crust, it definitely adds some taste!
A lot of our deep dishes have cornmeal crust or a mix of flour/cornmeal, that’s the Chicago style haha. Now, thinking about it I don’t think I’ve had a deep dish that didn’t have cornmeal from here in Chicago. Sauce is always on top of the ingredients, usually a sweeter sauce. Our actual pizza places taste way better than the frozen versions they sell. When cooking at home I like to cover the crust with foil until the last 10-15 pizzas so it doesn’t burn. We use a very high quality cheese on our pizzas and it’s definitely a must for authentic Chicago deep dish so you get the stringy melted cheese pull as you take your bites. A lot of people use a fork and knife until halfway thru then pick it up and finish it off. You guys have to order a Lou Malnati’s pizza online to have a frozen deep dish shipped and make sure it’s a “buttercrust” deep dish. FYI Lous uses stewed type tomato for the sauce but I promise you it’s a good pizza. Lous and Ginos are neck to neck as far as the deep dish here along with Peqouds and Giordanos. Hope y’all enjoyed the Chicago deep dish, Chicago style!! Definitely unique to the Chicago-land area.
Oops pequods I spelled it wrong…🤣
Haha another typo, typing too fast the last 10-15 minutes not pizzas. Can you tell what’s on my mind.
Pequods is so overrated. Lou’s is the best and it’s not close.
A lot of Chicago deep dish uses cornmeal crust. Maybe holds the weight better?
That sounds right to me.
With those, you can also let it thaw overnight in the fridge and bake it for 35 to 40 minutes next day. The best way to avoid a soggy bottom in the middle.
Chicago born and raised, for me knife and fork. Always. And this is as close to the restaurant pie as you'll find. Only difference is, they use cornmeal on the bottom of their oven and peel so the pizza will slide out better, some of which always sticks to the pie giving it a bit of a different flavor. Bit better I think.
Great review. Thanks.
Thank you!
Traditional Chicago pizza always has the sauce on top. I also use a fork at first then pick up the crust to eat :)
They are served with a fork & knife in Chicago
Thank you for letting us know!
The nice thing about Chicago is that you can order wine with your pizza in the nicer places. Helps warm you up on those brutal cold winter nights.
Everything seems to be about $1 more at Meijer.
It is!
That looks really good. We are big pizza eaters. Would try it for sure. Thanks for sharing.
I'm from Chicago and I say it's okay to eat stuffed/deep dish with a fork. Other pizza? Never! :)
I thought you had tried Ginos a long while ago.
These look good but my favorite deep dish are Lou Malnati pies, absolutely delicious. All Chicago brands....
Most of the pizza restaurants start w the mozzarella cheese first and the sauce or toppings . The tomato is on top. Usually chunky tomato sauce........
I would love to send you 2 of the Lou Malnati pies but won’t deliver to POBox. Darn it,,,,
We had one of their pizzas about four years ago.
Recently back in January, I visited Chicago. Lou Malnati was on the menu twice that week !! Outstanding
I love Lous!! Always get buttercrust for your deep dish!!
Best store bought pizza and it’s better than most fast food pizza. Well worth the 6.00. I bought mine at Safeway in Northern California.
Well worth $6? I just paid $90 for 3 :(
@@blanchy dang do you live in Uganda or something
Here in Houston, I bought these Pizzas at H.E.B Grocery store
No place sells Chicago pizza around here so had to order from Goldbelly
@@jackwilliams5223 How much were they? No where sells them where I live either and they seem expensive to order on Goldbelly
@@DEATHxNVK3 Basically Whatever it shows on their site, yes. Very expensive.
One last comment hahaha. I’ve seen my mom cook a ginos frozen in a cast iron that’s slightly oiled and OMG the crust was AMAZING. Enjoy guys!!
Your mom know's what's up. When I make my home made deep dish in a cast iron pan, I coat the pan with olive oil, flaky salt, and some dried or fresh herbs, then i build the pizza and top it edge to edge with cheese so it makes a crispy cheesy herb crust.
@@RomuluxRecipe??? 😅
@@_carbon Check out Adam Ragusea's cast iron pan pizza, that's the recipe I use, modified to my taste.
@@Romulux Thanks 😊!!!
Thank you so much for helping me to know that you can place it the oven and not in a pan. You made me hungry. Again, thank you.
I’m glad this helped!
I've had these! I like them a lot. That's how they do it in Chicago, the crust is supposed to be that way and it's authentic. YUMMMMM!!!
Cool review. Eating one right now. It’s actually damn good.
Thank you!
they are at HEB. they also have Uno Chicago deep dish pizza in the frozen pizza aisle. Uno Chicago Pizzeria is a chain restaurant all over the country
Thank you!
Those are good as well. Same principle. :)
Sharon La Tour yea i agree. Uno's pizzas are just as good. i think maybe a buck cheaper at least at my HEB grocery store
Life-long Chicagoan who most definitely uses a fork & knife for this type of pizza... until ya' get to the edge/crust that is. :) If you ever get the chance try LOU MALNATI's (definitely a once in while treat for sure, since much more $ than these & if not close to one, via mail order only. Tho in rest.. aren't much less. (somehow... tastes nearly identical either way!) Comes on dry ice in styrofoam cooler w/ logo; shipping incl in price, but... dep how many you order, 2 are like $60, 4-$90, 6-$110 or something) Not even a sausage pizza type girl, BUT.... theirs... let's just say it'd definitely be on a short list for.... last meal request! Like best of a pizza dough, combined w/.... idk, highest quality pot pie pastry crust... combined. Overlapping slices of mozz covering base, then pinches of ital. sausage touching so it seems like one patty... some in every bite. Leaving tiny spaces tho, allows for fat to help cook crust while baking AND... for cheese to bubble up through openings. Fresh, good tomato/sauce on top, little bit of grated cheese... yum! Even comes in a pan you just wipe out any condensation from, in case slightly thawed... put a tiny bit of oil in center circle & spread all over w/ paper towel, put pizza back in & bake "until" nice & golden. Yep, letting set 5-10 min to avoid that oozing & so any moisture can be re-absorbed. Helps keep integrity of slice when cutting, eating, etc. Also, have to cook long enough, where center is done too.... never cold(er). That said, if you ever get the chance... have to try it at least once imho. (saw someone on YT 'coolist' ? He did like 4+ vids trying all the different types of Giordano's (another chgo spot) & said how great they were... loved them. He, too btw... cut 'em right away, so... no worries a very common oopsie. ;) That was, until a few months ago, when I guess he went & ordered Lou Malnati's. Can see the differences as he shows them off, close up, etc.... to see if you'd even care to try 'em. Gino's, Giordano's, Lou's, Pequods, UNO's.... all, kinda sorta similar, yet.... way different. LOL :) Enjoy & thanks for sharing all these good items w/ all of us. Stay safe & be well.
I ordered shipped from Lous, Giordanos, Ginos, & Pequods. Great stuff all!
Lou’s does do crumbled sausage by request 😁 or patty style like said in above comment. Lou’s makes their sausage, it’s their recipe. Sometimes the patty is a little overwhelming, we’ve ordered both ways. Another tip if ordering to-go, we ask for the pizza to not be cut so then the crust isn’t soggy and cheese dripping between cuts. This way when you get your pie home you still have that crunch and not a sloppy mess. 😆
There's an actual Gino's East restaurant in San Antonio by the way right off I-35.
Looks great! What's yalls favorite frozen pizza overall? Not thin crust but not a loaf of bread under the toppings. I know screaming sicilians are your fav brand but what specific type? I'd like to have one before the corona gets me =x
We like the Bessie's Revenge which is a cheese pizza. Now, if they sold the Screamin’ Sicilian Pizza Co. `Za Brewski Hot Italian Sausage & Pepperoni Pizza made with beer in our area, we would buy it all the time.
@@TamiDunn hopefully I can find one tomorrow. Everything is sold out down in my area of GA, even now.
These things are really good. Heavy. I'm from the NYC area and quite the pizza snob, actually. I look at these more like a pastry, of sorts. Delicious. Really love them.
Pizza snob and you like these? Italians would die laughing.
mallaka8 Italians created these, relax.
@@mallaka8 I SAID that I look like these more like a PASTRY than a PIZZA. What' your issue?
I grew up in NY but Chicago pizza is my favorite.
Southerners eating Midwest food is amusing to me! Everything in the Midwest is hardy cause we have brutal winters and humid summers!
In Tennessee you can get them at
Walmart
Target
Safeway
rooftop
goldbely
In Lebanon Virginia where I live only Walmart
Thank you!
Wow, I wish I could do that. I have to order from Gino's website and they Charge like $30 each!
I've gotten the pepperoni in this brand at Aldi & I liked it, but never got the cheese. I found it a little crust heavy, but still tasty. Good value for the money!
Thank you for watching!
When did Aldi's start stocking them?
@@fantasticvoyage262 in Ohio, this was several months back. Kroger in Ohio has them regularly though.
@@PepperS72 I didn't know that either. I will have to check both out. I always got them from Schnuck's.
No Chicagoans use forks as well
DeAnna Mckinney Impossible to eat deep dish without a fork, unless you want to wear most of it.
DeAnna Mckinney Sorry, misread your post. Need a comma after the ‘no’.
@@megabyte7047 🖕
DeAnna Mckinney nice, keep it classy.
@@megabyte7047 She's a troll. We Chicagoans will eat it with a fork, at least part of the time, especially when we want to chow down, and it's too hot. However, eating pizza with a fork is like putting ketchup on a Chicago hotdog; typically not done. (My notifications don't work, megabyte, so I will probably not see if you reply, but you have class. Nice response to that lowlife DeAnna!
I love Gino's east
I'm 20 minutes from a Gino East restaurant so no need for frozen ones.
I understand that!
That's good eating right there...
I’m from the Chicago area. For deep dish pizza I like to use a fork until I get close to the end and pick it up like you did.lol
Ditto!! Lol. I put that in my comment too haha.
All these people complaining about it being $9 when the rest of us pay $30 to get it shipped.
I would never buy this frozen pizza again.
I found them for $5 at Schnuck's.
That looks great!!!
You eat it with a fork. The frozen is not as good as fresh. The crust on frozen seems too heavy
Albertsons has them. But they want 9 dollars for them. Damn I'll probably get one too from those Gougers if the Aldi(has them every blue moon) doesn't.
Tami,...I LOVE a "Deep Dish" Pizza!!!
Thank you!
Ya I just had it, they know what they are doing over there in Chicago. I’m in Detroit and we are know for the Detroit style but I think this has better flavor.
I’m glad you enjoy it!
This is 4 years later, but I’ve only recently been seeing them in stores in the PNW. Safeways in WA have them at least. Trying the Meaty Legend tonight! They’re expensive though…. $11. I only picked one up because I’ve been wanting to try it and it’s on sale for $8 right now.
I hope you enjoy it!
@@TamiDunnThank you, it was pretty good. For the price though, I’d rather go with a Screamin’ Sicilian. Those are the best pricier frozen pizzas in my opinion. Red Baron makes the best lower budget ones.
$5.89? They Charge $30 to ship this from their website!
It's not worth that shipping. Buy a Motor City Pizza. You won't regret it!
Thank you for posting your review! I'm from Chicago and now living in San Antonio. I just bought the "Meaty Legend" deep dish at HEB for $7.98. Fare price for the great taste!!!
Thank you for watching!
You're Lucky. Nobody sells them by me so had to buy on Goldbelly, 3 for $100. :(
Looks good.
Youd think 45 minutes in the oven would completely destroy the crust and it would be really hard. I'm more of an ultra thin crust fan though.
I agree. It didn't hurt it at all though. I guess because it is so thick.
Hey Tami would you consider doing a shop along at your Kroger if you go there.id like to see how your store is compars to ours.🌟
I would love to film in Kroger. The reason that I never have is because there are always people around. I have filmed a snippet here or there in random vlogs. When I have filmed the holiday Kroger items, it has been at a Kroger in Lexington and not here. I don't think they would appreciate me filming here.
I live in Chicago if I’m hungry I use my hand😂 but usually use fork
Thats definitely pizza you eat with a fork, not your hands
I just paid $8.99 for one of these at Vons. 😂
We would never buy this brand again. Motor City Pizza is our favorite.
@@TamiDunn good for you!
Years ago I ate at one of the restaurants that was in Thuunder Bay in Canada
This looks bomb!!
I've had both the cheese only and also the pepperoni. The only one I haven't eaten yet is the sausage & pepperoni. I've yet to see the Supreme, the Meaty Legend, and the Spinach & Cheese. The crust isn't as good as the ones you'd buy at a proper pizzeria, where the crust is flakier and more biscuit-like. The pizza isn't that great when reheating. You're more aware that you're eating pure cheese. Here in California, they sell them at Safeway for $6.99.
Thank you!
I love these! I'm nervous if it's at Aldi now it is being discontinued... In Western NC we have them only at Harris Teeter.
She said you can get them shipped to you
Selling them at aldi doesnt mean it's being discontinued lol.
They also sell them at Meijer.
Not being discontinued
It is not!! it's pizza from Chicago, Aldi's started in Illinois.
5 star pizza review
You pronounce Waupaca pretty well. It’s more ‘Wa’, rather than ‘Wau’
Thank you!
I’m baking one of these pizzas right now and there is liquid coming from it 😢 I guess I didn’t get the memo to thaw it first :(
Honestly, this brand just isn’t good. I’m sorry. We have never bought them again.
y'all are hilarious
I just bought for $3.00 at aldi. Got 4 just for the weight
I hope you enjoy this brand more than we did 😃
Albertsons in Texas have them
Thank you for letting us know!
I’m from Chicago and eat my deep dish with a fork lol
I tried this pizza twice and found it to be the worst pizza that I ever had. Just tasted like a mess inside. Crust was hard as a rock and far from a normal pizza crust. Sorry, I just didn't get it.
We have never bought this brand again. Motor City Pizza is the best frozen pizza you can buy right now.
Motor city company deep dish pizza is also good
We agree!
Just got one from meijers.
I highly recommend Motor City Pizza.
This was an Aldi LTO, recently. Soooo good. Cheese stays melty, not burnt. Mmmmmmm.
