    Look my friend: if you are collecting for your own fun and pleasure you can complete with any items you want. If you have $200 to pay for a tiny plastic blaster which is over 50 years old and is already breaking apart due to natural material decay, well it's your money. If you are "investing" keep in mind these toys are 50+ years old and are already in decay even in mint condition

      Yes I went with what would bring me the most joy. I did really think about buying repro once I found out how much they would be, but the most joy would for me to collect the authentic figures and accessories. I am lucky in the fact that I have a lifestyle that allows me to invest in these figures, but I also keep to a budget, which is what my sheets are for. But this is only my guidelines for my collection. What I will NEVER do is look down on other collectors and complain about how they want to collect. That’s not cool. Whatever brings you joy and that satisfaction of adding a piece to your collection, do it and do it proudly. Thank you for your comment my friend and thank you for watching!

    Hey Padawan Collector! The light/sound/float tests were great a while back when reproductions were commonly made using resins, and even metal (including things such as lead!) they were rigid, inflexible, often painted and opaque. So a flex test would often snap them, a scratch test would remove paint or leave a mark on paper. Dropping i guarantee you would be able to hear a difference in many - higher pitch. Nowadays many reproductions are factory produced and replicate much of the same qualities but there will always be a visual ‘tell’. You’re on the right path! Keep up the great videos and love you show the bad with the good! We’ve all been there! MYFBWY

    That's a ton of loose figures in great shape in that glass case. More than I usually see in the shops here.
    Imperial Gunnery is indeed a good website. It's a little tough to see what you are supposed to be seeing in a photo though. Your very best bet is to go to a local shop and find a shop owner and/or manager who will be honest with you about it. If he has reproduction stuff in his shop and has it labeled as such and will even show you the difference between a repro and an authentic, then he's probably a really honest guy.
    One of my best tests is the price test. If it's being offered for what seems like crazy low money, it might be fake - especially if it is in almost perfect condition and they only want $5 for it or something like that. If it's being offered for super crazy high money, it is probably authentic, but it doesn't matter because I can't afford it anyway. So, I usually go for the medium priced stuff. My budget is to never spend more than $30 for a loose figure no matter how complete and good looking it is.
    I also like to go for the loose figures and accessories that have wear and a little damage. Those are much more likely to be real. Repro guys rarely think to 'age' their fakes. Beware of the immaculate loose stuff.

      That’s a good tip about going to shops and getting options. I want to do that when I want to get figures graded as well. I want to bring in so they can assess my figures and play sets. I like toy addicts in San Diego b/c they always have answers. I have been trying to pick up more loose weapons and want to save more money that way. Thanks for being a part of the journey John, MTFBWYA!

    Thanks so much for doing this series of vids. Building my own collection of loose figures exactly the same way as you and delighted to see there’s someone out there making the same noob mistakes as me! Crazy that my repro weapon drama came with Hoth Luke rather than your Hoth Leia! It was a 3D printed version of his rifle! Grrrrr! Just bought a real 100-% original Hoth Luke to fix that mistake. Imperial Gunnery and RebelScum have been an invaluable resource, particularly for the weapons! Every best wish as you continue on your journey! May the force be with you!

    What's up Padawan? I am in San Diego also. Very cool. Honestly, I don't have a problem with repro I have a few repro myself but I totally understand why somebody would not want to ever collect repro. I also have a huge problem with people selling repro and not telling you that it is repro. That is cool you showed toy addicts in your video.

    • @thepadawancollectorofficial
      @thepadawancollectorofficial  2 года назад

      I reallly love toy addicts and their staff. They know their SW toys. And I also dig your comment and your view on repro. I don’t have a problem with anyone collecting the way they want to collect, but I agree with you, if I want to BUY authentic and someone sells me repro knowing that I am trying to stay authentic, then that’s obviously not good. Collect they way you want to collect, and whatever brings you the most joy. Thank you for your comment my friend and thank you for watching! Maybe I’ll run into you at Toy Addicts one day. Say hi!

    Yeah I replaced Princess Leia gun and it cost me $65 and then it got lost. I had it in a baggie on the table and it got thrown away by someone I know and I looked for it in the trash and could not find it so I had to replace it again. Always read your descriptions on eBay and look at their ratings. Then once you get to know the seller bookmark them. The guns and accessories can cost more than the figure but you're doing a good job. You live and learn.

    Mmm- It’s 1978-1985. Star Wars Figures were produced from 78-85. They were designated 77 but actually went on sale in 78.
    $80.00 for a Princess Leia in Hoth Outfit? That’s well Crazy??? How’s that possible? I really don’t understand the valuation on this Figure? This is the price of a Bespin Leia or Leia Organa Diplomatic Gown/ White or other less prominent Figures in terms of Characters? Madness? Forty years ago you could have bought virtually a complete set with change for a Tauntaun!? So if this valuation is correct I have $320.00 worth of Princess Leia’s in Hoth Outfit? My Princess Leia’s alone must be worth a small fortune??? This can’t be right???

I was just on the Holochronicles Podcast talking to some seasoned collectors and we were just talking about the valuations of figures and collectibles, so go check out that podcast and see what you think? I think perceived value is what drives up any collectable market, just like any stock evaluation with any commodity. It is interesting to see how the prices have gone up during the pandemic as well.

    Hi Joey, am catching up with your videos as you see and going backwards, lol, any ways I wanted to tell you the imperial gunnery is been there for ever , and even then that it says that it’s been an update on the reproduction info, is still not all the info, I mean when they refer to the drop test, what happen is that back in 2004 when I took back the fever for my childhood dream (Star Wars) they were a lot off people fight over the weapons as is today, but the reproduction industry wasn’t as advance as today, the repros were made out off resin and not the fine inject plastic off today that make it much harder to recognize from originals, they do make a high sound like a small pice off glass and not the doll sound the plastic does, if you ever want to check it out I do have few pack away I could send you one if you interested on the experiment and you’ll be also be able to recognize the difference, very valuable information the Imperial Gunnery had it help me to recognize then back then.
    PD.- I did keep them for the simple fact that it is a lot simpler to recognize them from the new reproduction version and I can do use them for show only.

    $80.00 for a Hoth Leia? That’s ridiculous. I can’t support that level of fleecing. There’s no shame in supporting Repro or Retro. There’s no shame in completing one’s collection using Repro or Retro. What has become shameful is the prices and some of the arrogant elitism of those who gatekeep to inflate those prices. Some of those Facebook groups are just plain vicious.
    The Padawan Collecter, as far as figures are concerned, I have a suggestion.
    How about you also start a budget collection, from scratch 2.0, where the Repros and Retros are allowed and encouraged? I would love to see this. It would be interesting to compare a complete budget minded collection versus the 100% verified original. Then you could compare on an aesthetic level, cost level, and actual playability level.
    It’s just a suggestion, but I think it would open your channel to more collectors who have much tighter budgets and less economic freedom than to be able to drop $80 on a Bespin Leia.

    • @thepadawancollectorofficial
      @thepadawancollectorofficial  2 года назад +2

      Thats a good suggestion! I do want to finish this authentic collection run with no repro. I'm not against repro at all and follow a lot of channels and Facebook sites that are pro repro. Its just a rule for this collection run and for this series. I like that different people collect the way that they want to collect, though. Whatever brings you joy. Thanks for watching Homme!
