I've sold a lot of variants recently, Lili Ledy small mouth Biker Scout and burgundy cape Squidhead, Takara alternate head sculpt C-3PO and wind up R2-D2, light blue Boba Fett, hollow cheek Tuskan, dark brown Rebel Hoth Soldier with metallic blaster, which alone paid for my Drew Tegg cabinet!
Wow you sold a lot of cool variants!!! The C-3PO I’ve never heard of! I’ll have to look at that one now! Thanks for the comment Zuckuss and for taking the time to watch!
@@thepadawancollectorofficial no problem, I decided all I wanted was a full run in a nice display cabinet so got out of collecting variants. I kept a couple though, I have a separate first 12 mail away stand with a DT Luke, VC Jawa and small head Han.
Hey, joey!
I think dengar is a fading. I've heard about the red bar r-5, and checked mine...no such luck. Typical!
I posted before about my blue snag, and said it didn't have a toe dent.I had a look out of interest, and it does have a dent!
Just goes to show what you don't notice. You are probably lucky coming to this from first principle as it were, you are getting the benefit of expert advice from the outset!
Standing on the shoulders of giants, that we may see all the further!
Not like us old timers, we had to wing it with what was on the shelves!
Another good video, catch you in the next one!
Awesome that you found out that you had a toe dent! Bravo!!! Thanks for offering such an awesome comment. And for taking the time to watch!! Thanks David :)
Dude! That is some top notch research. Got myself a green haired Madine a few weeks ago. Always thought the Snowtrooper visor variant was a paint error. Your legend continues!
Hey Soda!! That’s awesome that you have a green madine as well!!!! Thanks for the kind words and thank you for watching my friend!
Lots of figures have such small/minor change in detail, that I wonder if they classify as true variants - some of them being: Lobot (torso variation), AT-AT Commander (torso variation), Rebel Commander (torso variation), Hoth Luke (torso sculpting details), Cloud Car Pilot (belt buckle variation), Hammerhead (eye pupil location), Death Squad Commander (rank paint variation), Hoth Leia (rank variation), Bousch Leia (Torso details on cross sling), B-wing pilot (dot located on torso), and probably more that I’m forgetting!
Yea I agree! There are so many my mind gets flipped around! I do. Classify them into two camps: intended variants and factory variants. So I would classify all the hard/soft sculpts as factory variants and the big/small head Han as an intended variant, for example . So we can probably go down the line and sort all of the Kenner figs into those two camps. The majority would def fall into factory variants for sure. Thanks for offering an excellent comment Andrew. You always have comments that take the conversation further and I really like that!! And that you for watching!
Not color fades. I’ve had the different Dengar figures since I was a kid and they’ve been different for the last 40 years. same with the Ugnaught. I know we talked about this before but that’s not a color fade. I wish I could show you in person. it’s a completely different fabric on the blue vs purple smock. I have both fabrics. it’s obvious when you have them in hand -but so hard to see on camera or in photos. Best way I can describe it is like t’s like a fuzzy fabric vs a smooth fabric.
also -one of the really lesser known variants is IG-88 paint in the eyes. Not only can the eyes be orange or red -but also yellow. so keep an eye out for yellow-eyes IG-88!
Hey John! I’m on board with you about the smock colors and have even seen carded purple smock Uggys carded. I have both colors loose but only the blue carded (spoiler ;). And I have never seen the hollow eye IG but will be on the lookout for sure even in my own collection as I have a few now! Thank for watching and taking the time to leave an awesome comment. Always an honor for me :)
@@thepadawancollectorofficial
I really want that Hollow Tube Sand People figure and I’m also on the hunt for brown hair Luke Skywalker (farmboy). Brown Snake Yoda is a must have also that I don’t own yet. I think that’s the last 3 variants that I need/want. (I’m not going for a vinyl-cape Jawa). I have so many variants that I’m going to have two cases like yours for the figures when I’m done. I’m at around 160 figures because of the variants. heheh
Great show for the variants👍. The Han Solo hoth outfit with the molded legs is a lot more scarce to come by from my experience. Never got much notice before. Easiest way to tell, look inside the peg hole on the bottom of the foot. Blue or tan👌😉
Thanks Scott! That’s a good info point! I’ll have to check mine out!!! Thanks for watching my friend!
I have two AT-AT drivers that I bought new when I was a kid. One has a red stripe on his head and on his back there is a red rectangle with black highlights, the other does not.
Hi 1959! Wow I’ve never heard of that variant before so now I have to go back and check my two ATAT drivers now! Thanks for taking the time to write that awesome comment and for watching!
If we were playing baseball, I'd want Joey on my team because he keeps hitting homeruns. Great video bro, keep it up. THE JOURNEY IS REAL!!!!!!!!!
Yes!!! I got picked!!! Haha, thanks for the kind words Chalupacabra! (Bro your name is auto typed in my phone now!!! Lol). Thanks for watching my friend!
Great video Joey. I watch these with my 12 year old son, who loves vintage Star Wars too. Straight after the video, we went to the collection to investigate, and found our 2-1B has the second bolt, and we have both uni and dual visor Snowtroopers. While I know about the more famous variants (hollow tube Sandpeople, red bar R5) I’m really appreciating the level of detail you go to re variants - it adds a whole new dimension to collecting.
Dude I’m stoked that you watch with your 12 year old son!!! And that’s why I make my show suitable for any age to watch :). I have little ones too so I make it so they could watch and enjoy if they wanted to, but more so, so that parents could watch with their spouse and kids if they wanted to. So that makes me SO friggn excited to hear that! That’s why I do this :).
Ha! You made me look. I do have a couple I didn't know about. My 2-1B has the extra bolt on the left side. And, my IT droid has circles on both sides.
That’s awesome! Yes even I had to rush to my case every time I wasn’t sure lol. I had to really examine them! Thanks for watching milkyway! And for taking the time to comment my friend!
Awesome Joey! Thanks again dude! I’m going to have to check out my figures now to see if I have any. I know I have the big ones like small head big head Han etc. but will definitely look 👀. Cheers again dude 🤘
Thanks XDD! Let me know what you find and thanks for watching my friend!
Fun topic Joey. I would say at least half of those variants I hadn't heard of to be honest. So that was awesome. I would say the only variant which I thought of which you didn't cover, was the Klaatu variant, one with gray arms and the other with tan arms. Not worthy of a whole episode, but worth noting as it is one of the older recognized variants. As for your general that you got from gilster, you definitely should have that bad boy graded. Hopefully he agrees and You make it happen. And a great pickup on the Uni-Visor snowtrooper too!
Thanks Mopar! I will definitely add the Klaatu for a future episode! And looks like Gillster has voted for me to grade it! Lol. Thanks for watching my friend!
Now I have to go check all my figures again. Thank Joey
Hi Glen! Thanks for watching! Let me know what you find!
@@thepadawancollectorofficial hi Joey, I have both the snow troopers and I still have to check my other guard and general Madine . My power droids are both the long v versions. And I only have the normal R5. Still at least I have the snow Troopers. Now you have done it. Now I have an excuse to hunt for more figures. My wife will not be happy with that. Lol
Completely off topic but as a collector from Kentucky, I'm concerned that I didn't see any bourbon in your bar set-up. Did I overlook it? If there isn't any, please rest assured I will bring some whenever I'm in California to rectify this oversight. 😁. Thanks for another great and educational videos.
Haha I only drink bourbon. The rest are for guests. Thanks for the comment and for watching Dan!
Great video. Wow so many variants. I'm very aware of Luke variants as I collect those and have a lot on my channel but not so much aware of all these other variants. Thanks for another great video man!
Thanks One Time! I am a fan of your channel and love your vids! I am starting to binge all your content! Thank YOU for watching and for taking the time to comment!
👍🏼Great video Joey! This is definitely a subject that deserves further consideration and I hope to see “Variants: Volume II” in the future.
Thanks Edward! There will definitely be a volume 2, 3, 4, and beyond! There are way to many variants for one short episode :). Thanks for watching my friend :)
Don't forget the hollow tube IG-88 variant. The front two protruding tubes are either solid or hallow. It looked like you have the hollow tube in your display case. Also some people claim there is a yellow eyed variant of IG-88. I have one and IMO it's just color fade.
Thanks Robert! I have heard about the yellow eye recently and yes some collectors think it’s a color fade. Too bad we don’t have photo logs from Kenner back then that showed us the figures in their MOC state! Thanks for watching my friend!
1984 stamp barada, double eye Ig88, long eye tube sand people, reverse emblem DS commander are some of my favs
There is also the 1977 R5-D4. Most R5’s have a 1978 stamp but the earliest ones distributed to Sears before Christmas 1978 had different shaped heads and are stamped 1977.
You need to do a video on all the Lili Ledy variants since you already have some of those figures.
I really do! I love the Ledy figures especially the hooded Jawa! That’s one I would love to own one day! Thanks for watching Milkyway!
@@thepadawancollectorofficial I have 6 Ledy figures. Always on the hunt for some people don't know about. The Jawa, red cloak Bib, and removable Fett are ones I've given up on just because they're so expensive... and everyone knows about them.
I found the red bar R5-D4 at a toy shop, and picked him up for $14.00. The seller didn't know what he had. Let's not forget the different variations of the Luke Bespin. Not just the hair color, but the first releases of Luke in Bespin Fatigues had a flat face, lightsaber with raised buttons, and no molded painted lightsaber clip on his left hip. Later versions had a more fuller face, left hand mold variation, and a painted molded lightsaber clip with the molded lightsaber on his left leg.
Wow Richard! That’s an amazing find!!!
Hmmmm. I recently bought a reproduction R5D4 from "The Fan Strikes Back" I wonder that has the red bar color?
It would be a lot cooler if it did 😎. Thanks for watching Eddie!
I have an Imperial Commander that I picked up over 20 years, that I always thought was a variant. However after never coming across any info on-line or via conversations with other collectors to confirm the existence of such a variant, I now believe it to be a factory error. The badge on the left side of the chest, rather than red/silver is actually yellow/silver… it’s a nice piece to have 👍🏻
Wow!!! You should send the pic into the variant villain or another forum. Then send it in for a grade to get archived or even graded? That’s a great piece. And thanks for the info. If you want, join the Padawan academy on Facebook to share a pic of it. Maybe someone has seen another error like that one
@@thepadawancollectorofficial Thanks, will look you up…note it will be my wife asking to join as I’m not on FB! 👍🏻
For me, the Ugnaught purple variant is a myth. I had the blue variant since the 80s, then in the late 90s picked up the ‘purple variant’. My figures including the blue smock Ugnaught were then packed away for 20 years in a box, so not seeing any natural light. When sorting through my collection after two decades boxed away, my blue smock had become as purple as the so called ‘purple variant’. So now I have two ‘purple variants’… as a result of colour degradation. Enjoyed the video 👍🏻
Thanks what I think too, but shhhhhh don’t tell anyone lol. I think you are right though Brian
Hi Joey, I've been collecting for over 25 years and just found out about the short v power droid a few months ago. There are so many variants when you get into the foreign figures; lili ledy, pbp. One of the coolest is the white leg han solo! His legs are mold in white and painted black! You have to check it out. Its not a well known variation. Very happy to have it in my collection. Also check out the "chocolate" rebel hoth soldier and the toxic limb bossk! This are both pbp. It's been fun watching you build your collection.
Hey Andrew! Thanks for dropping the knowledge on a Padawan! Now I have some homework over the weekend lol. Thanks for watching and support the channel brother! Have a great weekend!
Get him graded 🤟🏻
Nice Donation Man! :)
@@benstutley2904 Definitely & also had no idea he was a variant at the time. So it was meant to be part of this Amazing Collection.
Gill is the man
There you have it!! Gillster has spoken! Thanks for such an awesome figure and for sending that awesome package brother! That figure is immortalized now lol!!!
@@thepadawancollectorofficial most Welcome my friend also hope you can use that rifle with a figure to save more money and yes it’s real not a repro.
Wow!
I didn't know about the;
Short V Power Droid,
Green Madine,
2 Bolt 21-B,
Fat head Imp. Comm.,
8D8 Leg Circles, or
Gamm Guard mould circles!
Nice Research Dude! - I'm off to the toy-box to check :)
Thanks Ben! Let me know what you find and thanks for watching!!!
Heya,
You may want to check out the pelvic variations on the EV-9D9 Figures as well as the waist tonal difference? The embossed necks on the IG-88 Figures as well as the satin and matt black detailing on the Red Snaggletooth HK 1978. Also on the Taiwan Admiral Ackbar, the hip colour applications are different? One matches his tabard, the other does not? This would indicate a leg from another factory?
Further note, I have two 8D8 Figures, one with the circular detail on both hip joints and the other with just one?
Also the 21-B Surgeon Droids, I have two with the double bolted left claw feature as exhibited by the matt blue variations and a single feature on the metallic variant.
Also the Zuckuss Bounty Hunter Droid, one version has a solid grey to dark grey head whilst the other is metallic and blends with the body.
Last note: with regard to Dengar’s back pack, the red/brown variation is not colour fade as mine as an example was fresh mint off the card. He is a legitimate variant.
Also I’ll have to dig out my Power Droid out of interest?
Please do a Princess Leia in Bespin Show featuring Geisha Leia? I can contribute with photographs.
Best
Wow Eugene thanks for the detailed list!!! That’s amazing and those facts are awesome! I’ll definitely have to do a full episode on the Bespin Leia for sure, as that figure has a ton of variants! Thanks for taking the time to write such an amazing comment and also taking the time to watch!
Thanks for the heads up.
I love learning more about the older figures.
You're a much better student than I am. :)
I have the purple smock Ugnaught.
I don't know why collectors are debating, there's a clear difference in color.
Thanks for this series.
I love hearing the words,
"I'm going to get a figure!" :)
Hey T! Thanks! I love the purple and blue smock Uggys :). Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment my friend! Merry Christmas 🎄
@@thepadawancollectorofficial
Merry Christmas! :)
I'm going to try to one more figure to close the year. :)
Those guys at rogue 5/ 5 idiots are pretty awesome. I have bought some of my great pieces from them. Great episode Joey.
Hey Greg! Yes, those guys are rad and they know their stuff when it comes to these figures!
Another great variant is the white-leg Han. The first release of the small-head Han had white molded legs that were then painted black. Inside the foot pegs it is white. Also, the legs were soft and bendy.
Hey Bloody! All the variants you mentioned are great ones to have! Maybe someday I’ll be able to get my hands on some :). Thanks for watching my friend
Awesome Video Joey. I always look forward to them every weekend. You should make a video of Molded Face Variants, Luke Jedi, Rebel Commando, Klaatu, and Molded or Painted arms Admiral Ackbar and Ree Yees. General Madine also has Painted or Molded arms as well as his face!
Thanks Javier! I’ll def have to make a video on all of these especially when I finally get to collect them! Thanks for watching my friend!
I own the two (known) variants for IG-88. I prefer the glossy, metallic version.
It's worth noting that the shiny metallic variant has sharper detailing - and hollow eyes - unlike the softer, dull grey IG-88.
Looking forward to comparing them to the RETRO COLLECTION version, later in the year (along with Dengar).
Hi Cyrus! Thanks for the info and detail! I’ll have to look at my IG now :). And thanks for watching my friend!
There is also the Bespin Guard mustache variant. One has a short mustache and there's one with a longer mustache.
Yea I just noticed that! Hey might as well get that one too right??? Thanks John!
Another great piece of work Joey !
Thanks Ashley! And thanks for watching!
The Palitoy Dengar has a bright glossy purple armor, more pronounced than the Kenner purple. Also, no COO.
So many great variants there, you had me going back and fourth to the cabinet of plastic!
The 8D8 was an interesting one, and mine has odd legs too!
Now off to hunt for that elusive small V power droid
😀
Happy hunting Martin 🙌🏼
Wow you are a research machine. I knew about some variants but not all those you really are good at researching, great job Joey very entertaining.
Thanks DMR! It’s been really fun doing the research and having that be a part of the show :). I’m glad you are enjoying it! Thanks for watching my friend!
Just a question, was there ever a variant C-3PO that was more silver? At school when I was a kid a wild rumour went round that a boy had a silver C-3PO from the opening sequence. When the blockade runner is attacked, I think the silver C-3PO is just behindC-3PO himself. The rumour was this was ultra rare and worth a fortune. I did see it and it was silver, but I wonder if this was a variant coating and had faded into silver overtime.
I haven’t seen one, but carded variants is where you want to check first
I'm staring at those commanders and I'm watching you describe it but my brain does not compute the deviation
It’s super hard to see even in person. You really need to see them side by side in person and even then it’s hard to see. The fat head is the easiest to see. Thanks for watching dandy!!
Great video. The moulded face Luke Jedi is probably my favourite figure, would like to see this one the next one :)
I don’t think I have ever heard of the moulded face Luke!?!? You got it!!! I def have to make an episode about that! That’s for the awesome comment Fusion and for watching :).
I wouldn't call the mold marks a variant. They're called Ejector Pin marks, and they're caused by standard wear and tear on a mold. That would be like getting excited over someone making your hamburger incorrectly, calling it a 'variant' of your original order. Then again, misprints have always been big money in certain circles. That would be a more accurate description.
Thanks for the info Rahiem!
Awesome!!!!!!! I found three on my collection that I didn’t know and still checking them out lol thanks bro as always great job. I guess I won’t batter you no more with the tusken rider, great lecture, very educational
Hey Carlos! Which ones did you find??? Thanks for watching my friend :)
I love all oftese episodes. And I find this one to be extremely helpful. The one variant that I was hoping to se, it is the one about Imperial Commander Variant. Other than that, GREAT EPISODE!
Awesome! I’m glad you liked the video Iron Maiden! The Imperial Commander is one of my favorites! Thanks for watching my friend! I hope all is well
Similar to the hollow tube Tusken Raider there is an IG-88 with hollow tube optical sensors in the sculpt (which I happen to like far better).
Does anybody know whether this hollow tube IG-88 consistently comes with the matte finish or-on the other hand-with the shiny one ? ?
To be more accurate: these optical tubes are not deeply hollowed out: it's more kind of a bas relief-against the cone-shaped protrusions of the other version.
Oh man I did an episode on the ig-88 and I actually have one graded and didn’t even know that was the figure I had!!
Wow, never seen it before but when you compared the Dengar backpacks I noticed the backpacks are very different! Take a look for yourself 👍🏼
Thanks Kensho! Yes the backpacks are different 🙌🏼
@@thepadawancollectorofficial now I’m gonna look not just for the different color but different sculpt aswell 👍🏼
The blue or Green lightsaber of jedi knight luke
Hi Victor! Yes that’s a great one! I hope to get both in the collection one day :). Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!
heyy brother just seen this video...im a lil late to watching it but cool stuff on varients.....quick question on your display i see you got the card back original colors behind all your figures...did u make that display case for them color cooridinated?....or can i buy that display case with color backs somewhere?...thanks appreciate it
Hey CJ! Thanks for watching! The name of the company that sells the cases is called Collector Displays. The link is in the description of this video along with other products I use for my collection.
Am so huge on variants. Have many of these including R5 and hollow tuskens. My biggest favorite though is the yellow eyes IG88 that is out there if you find one it's amazing
Thanks Woodrow!! That’s one I’ve never seen before!
The only star wars figure I own I bought because it looked rad and fun off ebay for $11 Is a (regular) V power droid just sitting on my desk i goof around with.... Pretty sweet!

Really enjoying your channel thank you 🙏
Thanks Aron! I’m glad you are enjoying the vids!!!
Great 👍 video! I really enjoyed this 🤩
Thanks BOE I’m really glad you enjoyed it!!! And thanks for watching!!!
I think it's a Lily Ledy figure. I have a Gamorrean Guard that has the circle on his chest painted the same gray and his armor.
Hey Bryan! Thanks for the info! I’ll have to check my Lily Ledy gammy too! And thanks for watching!
i would mention the green painted Dengar, you didnt even mention it exists. FX7 with 2 different layouts of the heads. endor Han coat with 90 degree ends of collar or sharp triangular end (both non-camouflage collars). leia bousch colour variations (and also faces). ree yees painted arms vs painted hands. much more gold c3p-o vs goldish c3p-o (similar to the removable limbs version). the german YPS snowtrooper is obvious but would have been informative because i do not think everyone is actually aware about this one (I actually do have one!!). there are also Jabba's that have the tail pointing to the right and would make their head away from the pipe of the playset. (i have at least seen five of these the last years on ebay (and yes - i have one). the rest i do not remember and i have too many figures to look through so here you have a start. i found out i DO have an extra nut on my 2-1B, i have the same 8-D8 as you. oh right - i also have a wampa with brown palms and another with black. and there are speederbikes from different origins that does not fit together. i also got a FAT weequay staff once that could not fit into his hand. it REALLY looked legit but it was too thick. my thought it was useless and i sold it further.
Great additions, thanks for adding these UK82!
Blue snaggletooth face color variations, the rarest
Thanks Flavio! I didn’t know about the face color variations on the snag!
My Dengar's backpack is all tan, it doesn't have the brown on the sides at all
Hey Mark! There are a few variations of Dengar and the paint applications / color. I believe I have two different versions of him with different paint colors applied
I have the IG-88 metallic finish and Han Solo with only one leg painted and thank you so much for that last information because I thought there was something really wrong with that figure or my eyes !
Thanks for watching bounty Hunter!
I just scored a green haired General Madine. Has a few light scratches but otherwise good.
That’s awesome Silver! I like that it’s a “variant” that’s relatively affordable :). Nice score!
General Madine also comes in plain eyes or plain and blue eyes.
Hey Chris! Thanks for the info, I didn’t know that!
Don’t know if it’s been raised, but need to ask, the snow trooper in the bag, what’s happened to his waist cloak, looks like it’s gone through the arms! Wrong… just wrong, goes around the waist!
Haha yes it’s been raised a few hundred times. If you follow my journey from the beginning I show my childhood collection and a few episodes later I show a corrected version. The one you are commenting on comes from my childhood collection and the skirt was put on wrong when I was a kid. I just kept it like that. I did pick up another version that I used for my official action figure run.
GREAT CONTENT! How about a vid where you take my Vinyl Cape Jawa and Blue Snag to dif shops in Diego and get offers/appraisals!
That would be an epic video!!!!!! Haha let’s do it!!!!
I’ve been collecting Star Wars since 1978 and I’m just now hearing about a Darth Vader variant that I don’t understand. It’s a Vader with bar or Vader without bar. Has anyone else heard about this variant? If so would you please explain this variant to me? Great video. I learned a lot…Thank you
Hey Jack! I will definitely research this and answer in an upcoming Q and A video
Another great episode brother. Man some great content and research, again. Love it
Oh and Grade it, Grade it. …. Just my 2¢
Cheers
Thanks Jorge! I’m glad you enjoyed the episode! And yes I’m gonna grade it!
how about ROTJ klaatu figure . some had grey limbs and some had a mix of grey and tan the rarest being all 4 limbs tan.
Now THAT is a very interesting variant!!! Hi Honda!!! Thanks for taking the time to let us know about that one! And thanks for watching my friend!

T.P.C. I found a circle on one of my FOUR 8D88 legs 😂 and just to add to the DENGAR debate, I have a minty fresh purple pale face DENGAR with a RED back pack 🙃
Hey Bothan!! Haha one more Dengar for the variant list! I just got a flesh skin color Dengar for my graded run, so I’ll compare when that gets here!
My 8D8 action figure has a circle on both legs 🤷🏻♂️
🤔
I found a green hair Madine and a Hollow tube Sand person
Nice!!!! Always rad to find those treasures hidden in your own collection
Anyone heard of the curse of the Red coat Bib Fortuna ?
No but it sounds like an amazing camp fire story!!! Tell it Scott!!!
Han Solo had two different heads when he first came out one look like it was smashed in the other one was more natural looking face
Hey Bob! Thanks for the info my friend!
Got to be moulded face Luke Jedi and painted torso Leia Boushh.
I’ve never heard of those! So I guess those have to be on future episodes! Thanks James! And thanks for watching!
