Indeed! Flanking towers that protrude also create situations where enfilade fire from multiple directions can occur upon the attacker's ranks. This can be further enhanced through hoardings or brattice work being built upon the walls, but we haven't reached that point in our settlement yet. Thank you for the feedback. Admittedly majority of the settlers are equipped with melee weapons, but this will be changed to short bows soon, with only the bare minimum equipped with melee weapons. In the far future I will look at setting up training for melee combat and constructing defenses that allow for melee defenders to properly shine.
Defensive towers should always protrude from the wall, that way you can shoot at anyone against the wall or door and creates several angles of attack.
