I’m British and passing the Crest CPSA helped me massively.
I’ve been working as a Pen Tester for a US company for 1 year and now have the CRT, OSCP, and PNPT!
Did you get graduate before CPSA and when u got the job ? gg btw
Nice one! Yeah Crest is big here and definitely worthwhile!
@@AppSecExplainedAlex! Keep up the good work and Yorkshire tea gold FTW!
@@InFellowShipyes I graduated before getting the CPSA and job.
I mean kinda a secret code up, up, down, down left, right, left, right, b, a, select start gets you through the HR process faster but only if you press a key right when HR boots.
Who are new viewer?
Am I new?
Me too
Will follow this. Thanks for making things so much clearer.
Really needed this kind of video today. Thanks
I really needed this, Thanks Champ.
Hi. Your guidance has really helped me in shaping my path to become a junior pentester. Looking forward to learn more from you.
I needed this
I use to hack, i was very into bug bounty programs, penetration testing, and social engineering. I lost my focus but still went to school for cybersecurity and im about to finnish. I think now that im going to finnish its time to light my flame back up and get into this stuff again.
8:05 Did I hear that OSCP is an entry level certification.
I did it just after finishing university as my first certification. I've read blogs where 19 year old got their oscp on the first try.
@@TadakichiSan777 If someone is willing to he/she can absolutely do it. But it isn't asked for in entry level roles, entry level certs tend to be more basic unlike OSCP.
@king09426 yes but don't expect to get a job in pentesting then. I've been there. I was struggling to get a junior job in pentesting with a bachelor's in cs and the oscp.
@@TadakichiSan777interesting, so OSCP in the end made the difference for being hired ?
@Alex-vi6iz definitely helps a lot but you still need to be able to answer some questions during the interview.
What if I want to get a job that involves writing or reviewing secure code?
OSCP is entry level? Can you touch more on this? I keep seeing different opinions on this Certificate to the point where I’m confused.. I saw somewhere that you had to have a couple of years of experience before taking that, then somewhere else I saw that it was entry level and should be the first certification you go for vs CEH.. There seems to be a lot of misinformation out there. It’d be nice to have this cleared up.🤔
@@JustinJ.not sure what you mean by "dogged down"....fyi I hold OSCP and have a pretty balanced view of its pros and cons
Pentesting isn't really an entry level role that's why you hear people saying you need some experience first.
CEH is useful from an HR perspective in some countries and industries, but doesn't prepare you at all for pentesting. The caveat here is that if a company is taking on a jr pentester with training then in this case that won't matter so much as they'll teach you.
The main reason there are conflicting views is that every org is different. Some orgs will hire pentesters with no certs, some with CEH and some with OSCP or PNPT etc etc. This makes it impossible to have a solid rule to follow since hiring managers just choose what they think is OK.
The industry as a whole is not aligned :(
OSCP is an entry level cert?
Yeah of course, if you haven’t achieved it by the age of 5 you are a failure!!!!!
Depends who you ask, every org is different but I've found most jr pentest roles look for OSCP or something similar.
It is technically but keep in mind that pentesting field itself is not beginner so OSCP is beginner level cert for advanced field
What would you consider entry certs when having good IT background. Aside from CEH 😅 OSCP good first cert? - well I should watch the vid first 😂 OSCP it is then.
If you have tech skills then diving into OSCP is a good option! You can also check out PNPT!
eJPT 100%
Thanks for pointing the importance of basics. I have seen guys who do not know the basics and are jumping into Cybersecurity by following the hype of some random youtuber. It is particularly the case for Bug Bounty. Its been perceived that Bug Bounty is all there is too Web PT or Pentesting in general.
Glad to see, someone reiterate the importance of basic Pentesting and foundational knowledge.
Please make some video on scripting I want to learn that🙏🙏🙏🙏

This is awesome and useful knowledge, thanks for posting! I do suggest putting more verbal energy into it, though. The white shirt, grey background, and otherwise calm and borderline monotone way of speaking is dreadfully boring and will make it difficult for the newer generation of future cybersecurity specialists to continue listening.
Just my style, I won't fake who I am, sorry!
I.Know About This
Sounds like if you obtain couple certs they will hire your for 100k + ) well, good luck. You will be surprised)))
Entry level jobs don't give you 100k.

Don’t waste your time, none can get IT jobs 2024. Entry level 😂
Why not, what jobs would you get
That’s wrong. I know of plenty people of all ages who have changed careers to IT (cyber, software dev, DevOps, general IT)
@@AM-mv6roso do I. Most who had no it background or degrees either
Fair point, it is getting more difficult for sure! But you know, the world of AppSec is expanding rapidly still ;)
@@AM-mv6ro 1-2 years ago - yes. Now - no chance that a company would like to hire you without exp ) Thanks FAANG for that.
