    This just brought tears to my eyes cuz it’s like you were talking directly to me 😢 this is EXACTLY where I’m at- a beginner suffering from imposter syndrome, thinking about collecting every cert under the sun like all of CompTIA, CCNA, all the cyber certs under the sun.. like it overwhelmed me to the point where I said maybe I’ll just settle for data analytics or IT project management which are great fields but not where my heart is. A RUclipsr named Day also recommended Blue team but since it was just him talking about it and it didn’t show up on a lot of HR job postings I said it must not be worth it. Long story short, you gained a new subscriber in me and im so thankful for your professional and encouraging message!

      I think it depends where you live. I'm from Brazil and here international certifications ( CompTIA , CCNA, AWS and others ) have curriculum weight.
      I think the biggest problem at the moment is the fact that the market is flooded with professionals (many overqualified due to layoffs). I'm trying to get into the field (I have an associate degree in Database + certifications and extracurriculars) through the support sector and most jobs have between 2 and 6 thousand applicants, even if you have an extremely above average education is likely to be out of a job because there are people with similar training but with practical experience competing...
      I think it's time to continue studying to be able to surf the next wave that should come with the end of the recession (who knows when this shit ends)...
      PS: I looked at vacancies in other areas and realized that competition is also brutal due to the economic moment..

    Just had my first SoC analyst tech exam for an interview. Was the hardest exam I've taken coming from just a degree and S+. Blue team level one would have def given me a fighting chance in passing it. So this is probably the best route to go about this path, dont sleep on this man.

Your practical tips and guides have led me to some important interviews, where I found myself well prepared to speak with confidence. My last interview involved 3 SOC managers. I was surprised that I was capable of chatting with them at an intelligente, curious, and professional level. The next day, I received an invitation for a background check. I couldn't believe it! Your last words had motivated me more than all the info given previous to that. I took a notebook before taking the desicion of stuyding this IT area, I've been procastinating and wondering for weeks and I can even say months or years, trying to find what it's the best option for me to finally change career and make an impact in my life in the near future; and there is nothing more true than what you said, it's all about changing the MINDSET, not getting distracted (which it happens very often, looking on what to do and not just sitting down, studying it and DOING IT!) and also focus, which goes along with not wondering around. I subscribed and followed you, saved this video in favorites and hopefully, in a few months or years I can come back and thank you once again for making up my mind in DOING IT and hopefully achieve a sucessful career in Cybersecurity. Thank @UnixGuy

    First - I want to thank you for your hard work and making videos, which are beyond helpful for me!
    And second - please, would you share your opinion about is there an age, considered too late for getting a first job in cyber security?
    If you have a Master degree and then - a PhD degree; if you are trained to learn constantly an enormous amount of information, analyse it and make important conclusions + you love to read, learn and analyse; if you realise that cyber security is the work you want to spend your life with; if you are coming from a very, very different area /for example Art/ ; and other "ifs" ...Is 48 years extremely too late for a career change and too bold to try to step into the field of cybersecurity?
    Thank you in advance for your honest answer!
    Best regards,
    Desislava

    • @UnixGuy
      @UnixGuy  8 месяцев назад +5

      Hey, I think your approach to learning is perfect for cyber security!
      It's not too late, you have a lot of transferrable skills and life experience that's very valuable - BUT, a career change is difficult at any age, so you'll need to put in a lot of time and effort to build your skills.
      I highly you recommend you start with this certification and take it from there:
      ruclips.net/video/6LIUhx95MCU/видео.htmlsi=O9_bBfqmy3O_XLGT
      and make sure to watch the rest of my videos as they will clarify the process to you :)
