@markosaric8884 - tony is right. Those certs have nothing to do with security. I was a senior network engineer for years and have been a network architect for a quarter of my almost 3 decades in IT and I have CISSP. You need to be looking at actual stuff like pen testing or CEH.

glad you can see the truth! you should see the amount of abusive comments I got from people with security+ who are angry at me for not recommending it 😅
I really appreciate what you are doing man. There are a lot of insufferable gatekeepers in the cyber domain, and its really off-putting sometimes to learners like myself... All this to say that you bring a lot of value to this community.
I'm a gatekeeper and proud of it! So, you want to be a hacker, but think gatekeepers are unfairly holding you back? ... ummm, yeah... hopefully the irony of this 'gatekeeper' concept is dawning on you : ) Hackers grew up breaking things... pressing buttons marked "Don't press this button"... dismantling stuff to figure out how it works. If you need someone to hold your hand and teach you how to be a curious self starter that can solve novel and unique problems... ... go home! Or, alternatively, go get your CEH and get paid to use tools that others have written, to inform long reports your client isn't likely to read and make suggestions your client mostly won't follow... all so that they can tick a box that says : "are we proactive about our security?" (now, re-read that last paragraph again) If it appeals, you'll be a hacker in the same way that I WAS Spiderman, when I was 4 years old. So, yeah... *Choose your own adventure :* Page 1 You find yourself in a wide open space. Ahead of you are lots of fascinating objects who's purpose you cannot ascertain from here. They are a gatekeeper (24HP, 0 Damage per attack) What do you do : a) If you cry, return to the top of this page b) To look around for another adult, go to page 4 c) To simply walk around them and investigate, go to page 312 d) If you wish call an abuse line, put down this book and go shoot yourself! *EDIT:* Just kidding about option (D) ... Hey @UnixGuy I watched this in December 2023, and told myself I was going to follow it and make sure I comment here before the video's 1st anniversary, so here is my update: I completed... - Google Cyber Security - December 2023 - ICS2 Cyber Security - January 2023 - eJPT - April 2024 - PNPT - Today lol - August 2024 - Now going for the CPTS, cant afford the OSCP yet I have learned a lot and I can say, I am a much better professional today than I was 10 months ago. Well done mate!!! you’ve put in the work and acquire the skills! companies will be lucky to have you! you’re so close to reaching your goal, well done!
I run my own IT consulting firm in South Africa, and have just added internal penetration testing as a service to my list of services. I have two scheduled Pen Tests for September.
Just found you today, have watched a couple videos and you have already answered my questions and given me and actionable plan. I'm pursuing a degree in cyber security and have been really overwhelmed with trying to choose a certification and how to prep and what specific steps to take. I appreciate and respect your opinion. It's been a big help to hear someone lay it out so straightforwardly. Respect.
Thanks for this. Web developer here and I've dabbled with the idea of going into cybersecurity for years. This is the most comprehensive and clear plan I've ever come across. Thank you for making this.
Thank you for this. I am a middle aged person who recognizes they need to switch careers into tech but doesn't know WHERE to start. I have so many other skills but they are not technical. At all. Your videos are really helping me to focus my time on things that are worth focusing on. I don't feel like I'm wasting my time. You're doing a great service here!
Hey brother I start school next week for cyber security I know only how to turn off and off computer but I’m all the way in. I’m moving to the islands where I built a house amd will be looking to work remotely. Any advice would be greatly appreciated 🎉
I currently work as a Land Surveyor crew chief and I’ve always wanted a job in Cyber security but haven’t had the time for school. I’m going to follow this Road map I’ll start tomorrow and I’ll be back here when I’ve made it to the end. Thank you
Thankyou Sir for ALL your help.Ive watched most of your videos, you really inspire me to keep going even when I feel low. I'm 55 , passed a+ , network +, security+, google cyber analyst recently.....my dream is to be a red teamer Ethical hacker. All your advice is gold to me, much appreciated 🤟🏾
Respect sir, because of your comment I feel energized again, btw I'm 24 but before I read your comment, the way to reach professional is hard and take so long way. And I realized I have'nt so much time because of my age. 😅

Yeah- I've never been the most tech savvy guy but I decided to throw my hat into the ring, so to speak. It's a little disheartening to encounter people who make me feel stupid and just tell me to read RTFM. I always thought nerds were meek and mild but they can get pretty vicious. Nothing worth doing is ever easy, I guess. In any event, thanks for being a friendly, straightforward, and informative guy.
Brother, I still remember when I first discovered you on RUclips, and you only had a few thousand followers. Looking back now, it's incredible to see how much you've grown! Thank you so much for all the valuable information you've provided. You've helped me get out of a state of confusion and feeling lost. I truly appreciate it, brother!
I found you just 3 months before I graduate with an associate degree in cyber security. While I have had some hands-on labs, I now realize just how limited they were. I am glad I found your video, I hope I can get enough out of these resources to get a job as a junior pen tester. Thank you so much.
This was such a great video. There are so many people out there looking for a new career, and it's so hard to find specific, useful information that they can use to determine if a) it's even something they would be interested in doing, b) is the market too saturated to be worth the time and money, c) what skills/learning track should they be focusing on in order to actually get a job? And many people, when you ask them about these things always come back with some cliche like "you get out what you put in." And then there are those click bait videos that make it sound like anyone can just get a certification and immediately start making upwards of $100 grand a year with no experience. Videos like this with specific, and actionable steps from someone who has actually become successful in the industry are priceless. Thank you for taking the time to help beginners figure out what they should be doing.
I wanted to be a part of the cybersecurity field, and you're the reason I've found the right track. I'm currently enrolled in Google's cybersecurity course, and your videos have been incredibly helpful in my learning journey. I can't thank you enough.
Hey unixguy. I’m ccnp certified plus nse4. I love networking but i always feel attracted to cyber security. I started learning python few months ago but I stopped after few days. to be honest i felt programming is complicated specifically when it comes to long codes. This video popped in my screen accidentally and it really resurrected the passion inside me. This time I’ll start the journey the right way as u described and I’ll come to update when I finish every step. Thank u so much for this video 🙏
Thank you for being a source of clarity and a guide for so many of us who are trying to get into the cyber security field. If it was not for this channel, I would have a much tougher time navigating my way into a path towards an entry level job in cyber security. I'm still undecided of wanting to pursue a job as an ethical hacker or a cyber analyst, but these videos help immensely. I know I am not alone in saying this, but your content has helped so many people and you are greatly appreciated!
glad to hear that! it’s perfectly fine not to be 100% certain what you want to do! pick a path and do some certs and see what happens, you will grow either way :)
I'm never gonna learn hacking but this was one of the MOST concise-yet-helpful videos that I've ever seen. If I ever see someone who's interested in this industry, I'll point them your way.
Hi Sir, I have been following your RUclips for sometimes and you are doing a marvelous job. The ethical hacker explanations you did last time was a fire. I want to be an ethical hacker for a long time. I just love the video and contents. The way you break it down, is phenomenal. I finish my PCIDSS. The ethical hacker will be the next. Kudos to you, Sir. Stay blessed.
I was already studying for the Sec+ when the Google cert came out, and I already had my exam scheduled for next week. I now realize the limitations of the multiple choice format. I’ve learned a lot of the foundational knowledge with the Sec+ so I still feel good about my decision to get it, but now I really need to get hands on with the THM / HTB courses. Thank you sir! 👏
@@UnixGuy Passed!! 😮💨 I wish I had more time to gain a few extra points on the performance passed questions, and I wish the multiple choice questions didn't have so much fluff in them. Now I'm thinking about where my time would be best spent next (if I want to keep my Comptia cert track valid), Linux+, Server+, or Pentest+?
@@samfisher5302 congrats on the pass! well done! I don’t recommend any of those certs. Time to move on from CompTIA and do something more practical. All the advice you need is in the videos so please war h them again
I retire in 2 years from military, I thought I was going to do PMP, started studying, but my mind always wanders back to linux/Parrot OS security (prettiest gui). I think I'm going to pursue my dream of being a pentester. Learned linux about a decade ago, it's great having a foundation in it, haven't used much but wouldn't take long to get proficiency back....Your road map is super simple and attainable within 1.5 years with dedicated and consistent studying/practice....Thanks for this vid!!!
Hey, I cant tell how much I appreciate you, because of you I started the Google Cybersecurity certificate training, just 4 hours ago actually and im hooked. Does not even feel like studying and completing those tests just feel so rewarding. Completed the first module and got all 100% in all tests. Haven't really got in to the coding part yet but that is what I wait the most because I have some very little knowledge of python and Linux prior to this, very excited. Thank you, hope to make career out of this. :)
Hello . I honestly would like to thank you because with this roadmap i see clearly stuff . I started txo months ago with basic knowledge such as A+ and network + than i finished . And i was about to start security + because it seems like a top certification and because of all these videos who say that you need to have a security + but i have found out that i lost it and kind of getting away from the ethical hacker path because it was not really technical. So thank you for allowing me to focus more clearly on the EJPT and then the OSCP :)
This is what I needed. I'm doing the IBM Cybersecurity Analyst Certification now. However, when i'm done, I'll start with this track. Thank you so much. And I'm not liking the IBM cert as so far it's all theory and no labs.
This was very insightful. I am so happy I found this video! I've attempted and failed the OSCP in the past, and I'm actively applying to jobs and looking how to adjust my job finding techniques and study path. I really needed this guide, thank you so much! You have a new subscriber!
@@abhithesh2465 to my knowledge no. Offsec has many ways to pay for it after a failed attempt. They have revamped the course since I took it last, so I could do an upgrade which costs significantly less. And if I failed more recently all I would pay for is a lab extension which comes with a retake attempt. A retake voucher without the lab would cost even less than that. I would have to check the prices on that again. But I recall retake vouchers costing in the high double digits or low triple digits in dollars.
No, $250. Oscp is very easy though, it's the most basic network pentesting. None of it is realistic, it's all disclosed CVEs. Real world hacking doesn't work like that 99% of the time, most companies that are competent have patch management programs
With that said though, it's a great beginner cert and can get you in the door and give you a baseline of offsec knowledge, but it's the bare bones knowledge needed
This just gave me the structure and plan I was looking for thank you so much!! I can’t wait to start this journey. I have my Google cyber security cert already, going to start on the htb projects tomorrow !

Btw what really impressed me not just you showed the roadmap but why ? I can't comprehend how good that was.
best of luck! I showed you the roadmap because when I started my journey I didn’t have anyone to show me anything, so I dont want others to waste time like I did

Quick question on the eJPT cert. should we be getting the subscription to do the courses and learning modules that lead to it, or go straight to the cert after completing the intro to bash? I’m following this exact path and will be updating as I go. Also , I ended up reaching out to our CISO at this bank I work at and he was amazed that I reached out. Hooked me up with some courses that my job actually offers as well!
hey mate, well done on reaching to the CISO, keep them updated with your progress!! You will need to do the eJPT training material, specially all the labs, in order to be able to pass the exam :)
Just putting this here for accountability. I’m still working on my eJPT now. I got distracted with the shiny object syndrome and kept researching new things . For example I got the flipper zero and started messing with that , or started learning how to ddos and took an interest in writing malware . All the while, I’m suppose to be doing vuknerabikity analysis and discovery. I’m back focused on the cert so I can knock it out asap. Have a set date goal which is by my birthday at the end of May for the EJPT, august for the eCPPT and end of year for the OSCP. Not sure if that’s feasible but those are my goals.
I really like this video. The advice is very sound. However, when it comes to Comptia+ or other multiple choice exams, I disagree somewhat as to their value - I think they are great value and they are 'HR door openers' - having Comptia+ or CEH or CISSP is much better than to have no certs at all, and they are fairly easy to get, cheap and easy to maintain. The biggest thing is foundational knowledge. Don't skip your foundations or you'll one day wonder why everything is so hard and why learning harder topics seems like such a climb - that's because you skipped those foundations. Overall great video and really good advice.
Yeah a lot of people who aren’t in the industry or are compeletely new seem to believe in the myth of ‘HR door openers’ , I personally haven’r seen this to be the case. @egatycasi you think ethical and legal are the same thing? That's cute
I'm a gatekeeper and proud of it!
So, you want to be a hacker, but think gatekeepers are unfairly holding you back?
... ummm, yeah... hopefully the irony of this 'gatekeeper' concept is dawning on you : )
Hackers grew up breaking things... pressing buttons marked "Don't press this button"... dismantling stuff to figure out how it works. If you need someone to hold your hand and teach you how to be a curious self starter that can solve novel and unique problems...
... go home!
Or, alternatively, go get your CEH and get paid to use tools that others have written, to inform long reports your client isn't likely to read and make suggestions your client mostly won't follow... all so that they can tick a box that says : "are we proactive about our security?"
(now, re-read that last paragraph again)
If it appeals, you'll be a hacker in the same way that I WAS Spiderman, when I was 4 years old.
So, yeah...

Hello . I honestly would like to thank you because with this roadmap i see clearly stuff . I started txo months ago with basic knowledge such as A+ and network + than i finished . Yeah mate I totally understand!! thankfully there are many things we can do to assist and make passing the OSCP a lot easier :)
do you need to pay $1500 if u are taking it again?

Thank you for sharing your knowledge and guidance. I'm looking for a clear path into Ethical Hacking and this will help steer me in the right direction. Cheers!
good luck 👏🏻
Thank for the video. I am really really grateful for these informations. Most of the map on the net is just made me more confused, but it was awesome😊
And I relly liked your other videos! They are always well-organized and understandable and easy to follow.😊😊
Thank you so much for your kind words, glad I’m able to help 🫡
I am extremely grateful for the videos you're putting out here for us. Jazzakallah khair
It's my pleasure
I have tried to get into a pentesting job and it is really hard, but your knowledge and tips I think I will make it, this gives me a new perspective, I will try again hopefully I get that dream job, really thanks for your tips and tricks.
give it some time, it’s not impossible but you’ll need to do the work proposed in the video
Finished my google cert today . Starting Hack the box tomorrow .
congrats!!! the fun’s about to begin 😈
Thank you sir 🙏🏼 this is priceless information, streamlining our paths and preventing years of wasted effort

Glad I could help!
Thank you for the game plan. The gatekeeping and experience requirements have felt daunting
yeah mate I understand!
Do you have any opinions on the Hack The Box CPTS exam? As opposed to the eJPT@@UnixGuy

Thank you for the video! I’m newbie who will start the Google certy
Best of luck!
I have explained this in in many previous videos :)
thanks for sharing your views and please do what you think is best for you, all the best my friend 👋🏻
Could you do a video on the road map to become a Cyber security engineer with zero experience , this video is such an eye opener
