I’d recommend not screwing into plywood end grain. I’d also recommend a battery box in case that battery shorts out and BBQs you. Also, pilot holes are your friends.
I'm getting stuff together to do this now. My Tacoma is a '98 so it's smaller, but good for my short term local camping needs. This video is right on time !! Cool build !!
THANK YOU! I am in the midst of building mine and your video is exactly what I am looking for! You even added the size of the screw, that’s sooooo important (recently learned 😂). I, myself is not a carpenter! SuperLIKE!
Nice job! You make us think about what we can do. The front compartment where your battery is could drill a hole big enough for a finger, easier to take out! Love the content of your videos!
Run a fused set of wires from your current battery to your other battery. I have a massive Cat battery in the back of my truck for backup for my camper. When you camp, you pull the fuse so it doesn't drain your main vehicle batter( alternatively you could just put a switch on the dash for it), but with the fuse in when you're driving it will charge both batteries.
use 3/4 plywood for the top layer if you are worried about it. I copied a buinch of this build and used 3/4 plywood for the top by 1/2" for everywhere else.
have u camped in the winter yet? Only reason im asking is cause im on the ropes about buying one I found on marketplace, but the only gripe ive heard about non carpeted head liner is condensation when winter camping@@DishesandFishes
I can’t even find mine on Amazon anymore.. this one would work.. I use the little round connectors MOTOPOWER MP00205A 12V 800mA Automatic Battery Charger, Battery Maintainer, Trickle Charger, and Battery Desulfator a.co/d/gzP0FIr
Killer set up did something similar forever ago looking to re-do it and add a second battery. Been looking at Kickass batteries solution but it’s costly. You just swap it out when it dies or how do you charge it?
@@S_Bonham honestly I charged the battery in April… I took it on a few trips and used that light and my usb chargers all the way through June. I charged it when I went on vacation in July, then in September … like 3 charges all year and it never died

I appreciate that! Thanks for the idea
Sick! I've always wanted to do this.
I would love to do that!!! Thanks for the “ tutorial!”
Awesome build. Thanks for sharing.
Of course! Thanks for watching
Great step by step on what to do. I will be looking at doing something like this to my 2021 tacoma
Awesome.. would love to see the product
I wish I had a truck that didn’t need to be a truck. Nice build.
Right? Lol.
Rub soap all
over the bottom of the drawer and it will slide perfectly 😊👍🏽
Smart
Dude's not a Carpenter, but using industrial saws 🤣 great job non the less
Thanks for the video-nice and simple :)
🤘🏼🤘🏼

thank you for the inspiration!
Good luck 🤘🏼🤘🏼
Very nice man, hope you can still take it out if you have to use your truck for truck stuff.
haha... yeah I am still trying to figure out truck stuff... have to unscrew bed platform to take out... 5 screws but still annoying
That’s awesome!
👊🏼👊🏼👊🏼
Weird, I just finished doing this yesterday ... awesome eh!
Nice thanks for sharing Taco suprise
Thanks for watching
I already know my problem is you made this look way to easy!!
Haha like I said in the video I’m not a carpenter… if I can do it you can !!
Going to attempt this exact build. I’ve never built anything and I don’t really know shit about cars or carpentry or anything.
Same … you got this
Another Ameri/ Can thanks🎉
👊🏼👊🏼
First trip real soon!!!!
#notacarpenter
Awesome build. May I ask how tall you are? Are you able to sit up straight on the platform?
Thanks in advance!
I’m 6’1… no I’m not able to sit straight up haha
@@DishesandFishes Got it, thanks for getting back to me!
@@DishesandFishes is it the cab height camper shell or is it the high top camper shell?
i wonder how long it runs a 400w heater? im not doing the math but i feel like its less than 3 hours.
I ended up changing to a small propane heater
I’ve got a 2009 Tacoma and it leaks just enough to be annoying.. does yours? And is that why you added that from piece of plywood?
It leaks slightly in heavy rains at my feet.. not enough to be annoying though and I try not to camp in rain any way
Would the slats be strong enough to hold another person? Say if the wife tagged along? Or do you think it would be to crowded?
It is a little tight in the tacoma bed if you are 6’0” tall or over. I think the slats would hold 2 people though.

Wax the bottom of the drawer, and see if you notice a difference when sliding it back and forth! I’m not a carpenter ether!
I love this idea..
Is there a lot of condensation that forms without having the topper carpeted?
Nope

Any rain water entering inside your truck bed?
Nope. Just when I forget to close the windows 😂
how do you keep dust and road grime from getting in there?
It’s got windows and a locking latch… keeps everything out.. if some stuff gets in there though it’s all part of the adventure! Haha
What is the brand of you battery charger?
I can’t even find mine on Amazon anymore.. this one would work.. I use the little round connectors
MOTOPOWER MP00205A 12V 800mA Automatic Battery Charger, Battery Maintainer, Trickle Charger, and Battery Desulfator a.co/d/gzP0FIr
Is that battery hardwired to the main battery or is it independent?
Independent

@@S_Bonham sorry, I have the light on tiktok and how I wired it up. But the things used so little power it lasted all year
I did it with the Woodglut plans.
Awesome
😂😂 I’m about to rip this whole design off
Please do!
does your cap leak where it meets the truck bed?
No
@@DishesandFishes thanks what kind of seal did you use
How wid is the bed?
I think it was 58 or 60”.. thought I said in the video but I guess I didn’t
How tall are you?
6’1”
