    So much more gratifying to know how to troubleshoot the system rather than just swap parts and hope. That's just a recipe for disappointment and wasted money. Thank you! I understand the window system diagram now and how to troubleshoot it. One more time. Thank you!

    I'm glad I watched this video. I have a 99 civic si with a similar problem. My right Windsow stopped working and it also stopped auto locking the right door. I have replaced the window motor, and both switches with no luck. Tomorrow I will do as you did on your video and hopefully get to the bottom of my electronic issue. Thank for your video. Very detailed and helpful

    My 2000 EK front driver door power lock actuator stopped working. Replaced the actuator and still doesn’t work. Rest of the doors do. So appears the very common wires coming out of the plug is my issue also. Probably not fun! But thanks to your video I have a good idea of how to go about it!

    Great video.
    Good detail and camera work.
    I am very impressed.
    One thing, when soldering, put some solder on the tip to wet it, and it will heat the wires much quicker.

    Thank you, thank you! I have had my Civic for a year and the RF window not rolling down is driving me nuts. I can't tint the windows until I can get it working. I am still mid-repair, having just cut all the wires from both connectors, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Plus, I enjoy soldering so tomorrow will be fun.

    Wonderful series. It's just the inspiration I needed to tackle my passenger window which failed to come back up today. The interesting thing is that it always worked fine from the driver's side until my passenger moved it with her switch. You put so much work into that problem, if I'm not too far out of line would you mind me asking how much the job was worth?

    good video, I am just trying to figure out which wires he connected TO those he cut. I assume its the ones from the harness in the door, but my 99 has the same one he showed at the beginning on the floor. I am hoping I can maybe cut those too and solder them. Just not sure if they will be long enough. Im gonna have to examine the harness more. I got a used one from a 2000 at the pick n pull, because I may have messed up the clip in to the power window buttons. I hate those clips. They are never as easy as they are supposed to be, lol.

    When you did the repair did all the wires match each other? I have a 1999 honda civic ex and I hooked everything up to the matching wire and everything worked fine except the power mirror button locked the door instead of adjusting the mirror. The regular door locks still worked though..

  • @billbarker2078
    @billbarker2078 10 лет назад

    Great Video! You showed where you cut-off the male connector and indicated that you were soldering a splice wire to each of those wires. How did you effect the connection on the door side? Did you use the existing connector that was housed in the door, or did you cut that off as well and solder the splice wire directly to the matching wire on the door harness side? I have the same situation on a '93 Civic and I am trying to decide where to connect the wires on the door side. Did the all the wires fit into the door cavity and not interfere with the window mechanics?
    Thanks again for the great instruction!

      Where is your video on doing this? Do you have one or are you just running your mouth. I appreciate this Robinson fella doing a video on this because I have a 96 civic ex that the driver door window works and the right rear window works if the drivers door is open all the way out and the passenger door window and driver passenger side widow does not work at all.... Just asking if you have a more in detail video for me to watch before I break out a can of whoop ass on my car to make all the windows work. Yes I work in a shop and we all run our mouths but , EXTRA thanks go to those who take the time to show their work, Dont make me come over there. Hi great how to vid.Maybe you can help me. I have a 09 Ridgeline and the back left window doesnt go up or down. I have determined the motor and all switches are good. The only thing I found which is not right,, is that with the plug unplugged from the rear door switch there is power, with the key on, to one wire yellow with red trace i think, when I plug the left rear door switch into its connector there is power to all wires at that switch. Ive swapped switches with a known good one and it still doesn't work. Any ideas how to diagnose why? Is the connector bad? maybe I should take wires out of the connector and reconnect to the pins on the switch and see what happens. Thx. Arlan

    what if i do have enough time and i am just trying to do repairs that don't cost anything? how would i resolder the wires using the existing connector? at first, i was going to create my own harness by connecting the wires inside my car with butt connectors and fishing it through the outside and into the door, but i am not satisfied with the way those wires would create a seal in comparison with the rectangular connector which makes a tighter seal and is more solid which would be better for noise reduction.

  • @manufactured_reality
    @manufactured_reality 8 лет назад

    Do you know if the wires in the door harness are the same color(s) as the corresponding wires in the floor harness? If that's the case then determining which specific wires need to be soldered together becomes a lot easier.

    Would crimping work just as well if I'm not to familiar with soldering

    • @suspendedhatch
      @suspendedhatch 5 лет назад +1

      Crimps can work better in fact if done properly (proper crimping tool, lined up on the butt connector properly, non insulated butt connectors with heat shrink). Manufacturers don't solder any wires together except when joining wires to circuit boards. Crimps are used all throughout the various harnesses to join wires.
      The problem with soldering two wires is that the strands are flexible against the inflexible solder. With frequent heat cycles, vibration and movement, the strands can break off and the solder can crack.
      Even "best practice" can be prone to failure, however, as you can see with the need for this video.

    Thanks for your videos,amazing what a lot of hours it takes to fix a simple window that stops working;

    • @suspendedhatch
      @suspendedhatch 5 лет назад

      The wires are fine. The strands pull out of the crimp connectors inside the plug. The other failure that happens here is the insulation gets brittle and cracks, giving you intermittent shorts especially when they get wet. This will sometimes cause sections of the plug to melt.
      It's an economy car btw.
