This is the best video on youtube about this common Honda problem from this vintage. I've owned my '98 CRV for just over 24 years(and 296K miles) and I've been without the power door locks for at least ten years. It hasn't been the family vehicle for quite awhile as it's just my daily driver these days and I've learned to live with it. Everything else works so it hasn't been a big deal. The only other problem is the driver's window is slow when it's closing but I've always attributed it to a slowly dying motor or simply the track needs to be regreased. Now I'm wondering if the wire has been significantly compromised and the resistance is high. Kudos for a detailed, common-sense method to tackle this problem. I also like the idea of using liquid tape to strengthen the wires near the connector.

Seems to me that somebody should sell individual wire with the pin connector already attached on one end. Like the wires you pulled out of the salvage pin block. I can buy a whole block with all the wires connected for $40 to $80, but then I have to cut all the wires off and splice all of them to use it. I think I will buy it and just pull a wire or two out of it to use in my old pin block. I looked around and couldn't find any individual wires.
Thanks I got the same problem on a 2000 Honda Civic that I bought. If you open the door all the way the speaker goes out and the door locks and windows Don't work.
People do it all the time. I see people teach how to's about It on RUclips. It is amateur hour. It is not a problem, until it is a problem. If things start to melt, and smoke, it might be time to re-do it. If you're lucky it will be fine. You should see the nightmares I have delt with on custom Harley's. They solder everything. It's a nightmare waiting to happen.
Absolutely wrong about soldering, the oxidation and resistance are not working like that. But still thanks for showing all the other step of repairing it.
I have taken electrical classes from Bosch, and A6, L1 ASE certified. They all teach you that soldering wires is a big no no. Soldered wires are also not coast guard approved in marine applications. It is a good way to start a fire.
@@serranosoundstudios it creates resistance in wires. Can melt away, make heat if not done properly, and start fires. For this reason, it is not U.S. Coast guard approved. All wires should be crimped. There are technical service bulletins on this for countless car applications.
@ ford had me soldering wires in for the contour headlight recall under dash. I see the point about not knowing how to solder well causing problems like resistance otherwise not.
Wrong. Every connection causes resistance. The heat expands everything, and solder goes in-between the two surfaces, causing more resistance, and a higher failure rate in wire connections versus ordinary crimped wire to wire connections, or ultrasonic welding. That is why you never see any solder on any factory wire connections. It is only used on things like circuit boards to attach wire to foil on a board.
@@RustBeltAuto you might want to do some study. resistance is heat no shit but solder in it's self does not create the resistance is is a metal alloy that is highly conductive. and you do not see solder on factory connections becasue serviceability. solder is more of a permenant situation.

You are going to need to find one off of a civic, integra, or crv of same years. Maybe have a junkyard can mail it to you. People list crazy prices, because they are out of stock, and dont want to loose their listing.
@@RustBeltAuto oh ok thanks for the info boss. I'll start looking for those cars as well then I appreciate it
Has anyone in this thread come across the diagram for the floor harness that connects to the door with the affected connector? I cut out my connector and need a diagram that shows the colors of the wires coming from the floor harness to the driver's side door harness and how they match up ..99' LX
Probably going to need a factory diagram, or maybe one from Mitchell. Might want to go on honda-tech, and see if someone can help you out.
Same problem my crv rd1..clamp pin and wire pin problem.
Where to buy this wiring harness connector ?
Some dude on eBay sells them in left a link in my comment section
Does anyone know if that gray 25 pin connector is available from Honda?
Nope
I must be the only one that's made the exact tool as you and still can't get the pins out, I've been on this for an hour...
Hmmm. Must be doing something wrong.
Where can you get the special tool?
Lisle 57750 wire terminal tool kit is a good one. Parts stores may have something. I have always made something that works. Every car terminal is different.
@@RustBeltAuto thankyou i found a kit on amazon
Awesome information especially the part of the windows rolling up/ down faster. Can you provide a link to the Honda tech for plug wire connections?

Rust Belt Auto thank you!
Does anyone have the table with the order of colors please
I think I found a link on hondatech, and left it on here for someone. That's where I found it, so I didn't have to go to the dealer, or library to get it.
man oh man ! you saved me sooooo much time and money < i think i have a waay better idea of were to go,! i have an 97 acura EL that the windows and locks dont work and all the fueses are great , i never thought about the harness ! thank you ! is there a link to buy the connectors ?
You are going to have to hunt something down somehow.
Where can I buy that connector ?
Someone on here posted this link.

Rust Belt Auto thank you
What size pin connector???
The size that come out of a used drivers door from a civic, del sol, or Integra of the same years. Might be the same for other cars, dont know for sure. You cannot get them new.
Thank you very much
Seems to me that somebody should sell individual wire with the pin connector already attached on one end.
You're welcome. It is super common on these cars. People tend to hack this job real good. Thanks for watching!
Good job!!! thanks!!! for the video!!!
Welcome!
You can just go to junk yard and clip the plug out just make sure not to clip the wires to short clip wires long enought
Any way you can send me the diagram for a couple 99
Sorry. No.
Damnit I used solder. Welp look like I might have to redo someday
Thanks man this is what I was looking for I'm going through this now and it's a pain lol. Good stuff thank you!
Haha epic ending... "okay bey!"
He ends most/all of his vids like that
solder > crimping. any day. they dont solder wires in factory. why would they solder if they have full length of wire.
Shit is rather take the damn door off..
Impossible to pull the pins out
No
Why is soldier bad?
@@serranosoundstudios it creates resistance in wires. Can melt away, make heat if not done properly, and start fires. For this reason, it is not U.S. Coast guard approved. All wires should be crimped. There are technical service bulletins on this for countless car applications.
@ ford had me soldering wires in for the contour headlight recall under dash. I see the point about not knowing how to solder well causing problems like resistance otherwise not.
@serranosoundstudios ya, that was some time ago. Nowdays they would give you crimped connections, and shrink tubing, or waterproof connectors.
you can buy new connector kits on ebay!!!!!
Can I have a link please?

@@daniblackham4381 ya. Chopped off the plug from junkyard. When I took mine off I wires had unpinned. Everything works as it should now
Just get used harness from junkyard way easier that's what I would do
Every one I see has cracked insulation/broken wires. If I could find a shipyard of them, I could make a new living selling them.
Excelent.
that poor integra..
Bull about the solder
@@serranosoundstudios name me one automobile manufacturer that solders wires together.
Solder don't cause resistance. Shitty solder jobs do.
@@CotyRiddle I am A6 ASE certified, and Bosch electrical certified. Stop waisting my time with your drivel.
@@RustBeltAuto Ok them cirtifications dont really mean shit. ok so you went to school. and your point. have you actually been presented with a situation that would prove you otherwise? Id bet not. How ever I am not going to argue over the internet with anyone as it is pointless. @@CotyRiddle you know very little, and have very little experience. Ask me to study, and I did more than you. Now you say educating yourself doesn't mean anything. You are a self proclaimed arguement winner. Keep believing you are right. Maybe you will never have a problem, if you never do enough.
Hey I have this issue with both doors on my 01 Acura integra but nothing work, no power locks or windows and my speakers don’t work on both sides. I checked the cables to see they were torn or disconnected but the are fine. Else could it be?
Check fuses, powers going in, and out of the master switch, and there is a module in the door if I remember correctly. Probably best for you to go on honda-tech website.
