I started Yakuza 3 just 2 days ago after having 100%ed all prior games (I'm currently trying to complete the entire series up to Y6). Although completing substories was naturally a thing I immediately started doing from the beginning, I still found the rest of the guide useful and I would've missed the usefulness of revelations completely because I didn't realize that they give you new moves. Thank you for this awesome guide!
Thanks so much for noticing. This channel has nearly 150k views now, people just haven't been subbing. But then I haven't kept up with a steady stream of content because I have a day job now. :D
16:13 The game does have a bit that starts in 2007, but once you hit chapter 4 it's already 2 years down the line, so a bulk of the game occurs in 2009(probably lol)
Before I start the video beyond the intro, I will give my impression of both the game to the point I’ve played (I’m about to head to Kamurocho after the intro at Morning Glory and setting up the whole Ryudo family storyline) as well as my idea as to the quality. As of this point, I feel that the game is phenomenal story-wise, as I actually feel connected to the characters (especially the kids, Mitsuo MVP) and the Ryudo family. Everything has that Yakuza touch, but feels completely grounded with realistic characters. All in all, I enjoy where the story seems to be going, even if I’ve been spoiled to some pretty major points just from being in the community (the whole “beautiful eyes” joke is literally just a massive spoiler, but it’s too funny not to acknowledge). It’s been set up strongly and seems to have some of the most human characters in the series - which I can see being a total turnoff for lots of people, due to what I call the “Shinji effect”. Not Shinji as in Shinji Tanaka, but rather the little shit from Neon Genesis Evangelion. It goes as follows - *The more accurately and humanly flawed a character is, the more people will hate them and the more divisive their character will be.* People hate Shinji from EVA because he acts like an actual emotionally stunted teenager would if he was the savior of the entire world from literal god. People don’t like sincerely and humanly flawed protagonists because they remind them too much of actual people and it makes it too hard to root for them. I feel like that might be the case in this game for any characters that people don’t like (especially the kids) - they act like actual people of their nature would. The kids act like actual kids. The thugs act like actual two-bit street toughs. The grizzled middle-aged gangsters act appropriately distant and hardened. That’s what I feel this game has been strong in going through the prologue. As for gameplay, I just feel like they made the enemies too fast for a slower, grungier fighting game. Enemies go from perfect guards to flawless evasions almost instantly, while Kiryu moves like an actual person in a real street brawl. He moves with a lot of power and force in his swings, but is also somewhat cumbersome and even borderline sluggish due to his sheer mass and the amount of concentrated force he puts behind his swings. The enemies feel almost too “game-like” to fit with a very good Kiryu for his own environment. The enemies lack transitions, I feel. They don’t taunt or relax for a breath at any point; they just fight like they’re from a fighting game. Yakuza isn’t just a fighting game - it’s a massive collection of ideas and settings from real life mashed into a Japanese crime drama. The enemies feel too much like game enemies to me and not like I’m fighting a punk or a gangster. It forces Kiryu to become unnatural, my best strategy I’ve found being to just throw enemies at one another constantly until everyone dies, and loses the feeling of Kiryu being Kiryu. In those moments, he feels like a player character and not Kazuma Kiryu. That’s just my thoughts on the matter. No correct opinions and whatnot. I wanna know if anyone feels the same.
Yes, I just made a community post about it. The Yakuza 4 guide is in development and will be released after the Like a Dragon guide. Apologies for the delay!
I wish I knew half of this before I started this game. Coming from Kiwami 1 & 2 this game felt like a real chore for me to get through but now I feel like I should replay it to give it the chance it deserves
Thank you for this guide, it really helped me out a lot as I've reached chapter 4 and wanted to get a good overview about it. I'd love to see a similar video of Yakuza 4 and 5 in the future :)

Thanks for the guide man! You might’ve convinced me to give this game another chance. You did an amazing job editing this guide! Keep up the good work! I might need a novice guide, though. Since I really really suck at getting the hang of the combat mechanics. x’D
I tried playing the old yakuza games, but I honestly can't get past the graphics. I know "graphics isn't everything " but after playing yakuza 0, kiwami, and kiwami 2, I just couldn't get passed it. I feel bad but I'll play them if they ever get a kiwami type upgrade.
I'm currently almost done with yakuza 3, completed everything except 2 minigames on hard and I did a lot of things described in this guide like completing the substories immediately. It definitely took longer to get a hang of this game than 0, kiwami and kiwami 2 but it has its own charm. Has some bosses I genuinely loved and some where I would rather eat my own leg than fight them again :) that also counts for some of the tag team opponents really sad that a lot of people never gave this game a chance because the graphics are dated and it takes a while to get into the story, Kiryu in this is really endearing and probably the most likeable except for maybe in 0
If7 is definitely worth it expect for maybe the lau ka long fight. Seriously that fight is garbage and it only slightly upgrades a mostly useless move. But the majima fight is 1000% worth it very easy and you get a super useful heat action! Essence of smoking for the win

I still haven't compared 60fps with 30 fully, but I've already could combo at enemy's back not having them block 24/7, plus now I see my mistakes and I can correct them i.e. not seeing an enemy attack when it's visible and not invisible with me not having time to even react to it like on 60fps.
i played the hostess maker quest yesterday, god it was so annoying that the game doesnt give you half of the tools until way too late for the first hostess. (and the pacing back and forth really gets annoying after a while) kudos on them tho for having a hostess minigame that DOESNT break the fabric of space, time, and the games balance by merely existing.
