- We drove a stock 2003 Toyota Tacoma and stock 2001 1st Gen Xterra up Hermit Pass. We thought it was an "easy" trail according to the guide but it was pretty rocky and high clearance is suggested. I would rate this trail as "Moderate" due to the clearance needed. The views are beautiful with a lake just before you get to the top of the pass. The pass is close to Westcliffe, CO, which is a cool little ranching town with just a few stop signs and some good restaurants.
Wow... !!! My best friend, It's always great. We liked and enjoyed to the end. Thanks
Just a late post suggestion. Add a Topographical map so we can see where you started and the route direction and length. I have read a book series called, "Logan Mountain Man Series" by author Donald L Robertson who describes the life of a fictitious Mountain Man from Tennessee who travels west in the early 1800's and all his encounters with Indigenous Indians and wildlife throughout the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Such a delight to put your route into the writings of the books. It's a great read. Just imagine having to hike through those mountains with just a horse and a pack mule, before the roads were there. That would be extremely challenging. Beautiful Scenery. Thanks.
Good suggestion! The Sangre de Cristo mountains are one of the most beautiful mountain ranges in CO. They are steep and rocky so traversing them with a horse would be so tough. Thanks for subscribing.
Wow! You guys are so brave. Looks awesome but scary to me. LOL!
This is like an interstate highway compared to when we crossed it in 1987.
LOL! Hayden Pass is more challenging, I hit that earlier this summer and it had challenging, steep, loose rock sections.
