Good lord...I'd be afraid to even hike some of those lines!!! Hands off to you folks.
My wife and I did Black Bear 2 years ago in my Gladi!!. Awesome!!!
Thanks for viewing.
Thanks for sharing, great video. Man, that drive downhill is crazy with views, I don’t think I could drive it. Lol
Its an easy ride. Thanks for viewing
i used a PRIUS....
not on this road. grass valley ca off the main road in a winter storm. had an ANGEL that day.🙏🙏🙏
Whoever ran the heavy equipment to cut that track was quite skilled and possessed cojones of steel.
I totally agree. Thanks for viewing.
And then they dragged material to build a house up there too.
I've lost a lot of nerve the older I've gotten....I better do this soon! Lol. Thanks for sharing!
That road looks like a whole bunch of Z's and W's all strung together.
"Looked like malaria germs..." C.W. McCall. 😆
XJ’s are just unbelievable! 💪
Several years ago I was camping up near the top of the Black Bear Road, and I rode my XT600 down to Telluride, gassed up and rode back up that road. Going back up was more difficult than going down. If I remember right, it is usually one way. I figured that I could easily get out of the way of anyone coming down.
Up near the top, I met an older Jeep Wagoner that was just starting to go down the ledges. He asked me if I thought that his Jeep, that was not lifted and was actually quite low, would have any issues. I honestly told him that he was going to hit the bottom of his rig on almost all of the ledges. I said that if it was me, I would turn around. He did. Those ledges, at least at that time, were a couple of feet high. It was not an issue with my XT600, but by this time I had been riding for 20 years. You tend to pick up things, and ways of tackling problems. LOL
That house that is on the cliff next to a sheer drop-off is amazing. I could never sleep there. I give a lot of credit to the people that built it, especially the roofers. Terrifying would be how I would explain roofing that house!
It’s an amazing area. As you know it’s a spectacular view. No matter where you look. Thanks for sharing your time there. And thanks for viewing.
Fantastic vid! That trail will definitely keep the heart ticking.
Thanks Randy. If you want the edge of your seat when you’re looking over the cliff leaning over. Thanks for the support.
I just saw a vide9 with the local sheriff cautioning people to not be "ass clowns" on this demanding and dangerous road. Nice to see it run properly. As for me, the Million Dollar Highway is hair raising enough.
Thanks for viewing, you need to pay attention while on the trail. Its a great view, but please stop when your going to look around.
LOVE JEEP RIDING WITH ALL MY HEART
There is nothing like Colorado
Howdy n Wow! Thanks for sharing! Have looked at it from Telluride and wondered what it was like…so many thanks!
Glad you enjoyed. Thanks for viewing
Great video
You showed angles of the trail than others have done in past videos
Thanks for the videos
Thanks for the good comments and viewing.
Hello from Greeley! Awesome video! I’m not afraid of heights, but when traveling through the mountains my anxiety goes to 100 on tight roads like these.
I fully understand that . Thanks for viewing.
Jeeping is my favorite thing to do when we go to the mountains. I'd love to do this pass but probably will settle for videos. Its a scary one for sure. Loved the video. Thanks for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it, Colorado is our favorite place. Thanks for viewing the channel.
Nice video. I live in Colorado and head to Ouray every summer. This will be my 18th year going over Black Bear with a manual transmission JLUR.
Thanks, i love it in Colorado, your lucky to live there. Thanks for viewing, hope you like all the content.
There's another pass in Colorado that's even more dangerous, and thank goodness most of the locals don't share its location
Does it have a name?
Hidden Valley.
Schofield Pass = most deaths
7:41 WOW this is what wheeling is all about!
Great video Larry.
Thanks, it was a great week.
Oh yeah!
I've done it 3 times. The first time in sleeting hail, second time in heavy rain, and finally on a nice sunny day!
I'm obsessed with this trail. I'll do it again next year if they open it, unlike this year.
Thanks for viewing, i look forward to doing it again.
Great overview!
Thank you, Thanks for planning it out.
AWESOME video man! I’m heading out to CO in August, this is on my to-do!
Mine too …. I want to go for the 4th wkend
@@eda1470 that’d be a good weekend!
This is a great video. We live 4 min from sand hollow state park
Great video. Loved the narration.
Thanks for the good comments, glad you enjoyed the video.
Thanks for the good comments, glad you enjoyed the video.
Can’t Wait to try it out in my ‘12 Silverado 🤩
Did you build a truck
Nice Job!! I was trying to get out there for my new channel but after my first video (5 months ago) someone crashed into my front axle and I've been without. Just got it back but it's too late to make a last minute trip out there. A few years back I rode across country on my BMW adventure bike (R1200GSA) and skipped black bear but rode many others around the area. All I could think about is having my jeep. Your footage really shows how narrow some of those trails are. Again great job and you motivated me get back out west in 2023.
Thanks for the comments, hope you get out there soon. 👍👍. Ill check out your channel.
I would never trust a vehicle made by Chrysler to get me home safe.
Sounds like you’ve had bad experience, everybody has owned Jeep. Thanks for reviewing.
Great video
Thanks. Thanks for leading many of the trails
Sadly Black Bear Pass never opened on the Telluride side for the 2023 season. I try to run it at least once every year, so here is to hoping it opens in 2024, great video!
Thanks. Im looking forward to running it this year.
Wow Awesome one
Thanks
Good video. I'm doing this late July 2023 in my FJ.
You will love the view, thanks for viewing the channel
Great video you guys I think I'll give it a try
Its a lot of fun. A spotter helps. Thanks for viewing, hope you enjoy the content.
My hands were soaking wet watching this! Nice job🇺🇸🤟🏻
Thanks for the compliment, it was definitely an interesting time on the mountain.
Mountain biked BBP in the late 80's on bikes that were barely mountain bikes. It was the first week of June and as we got closer to the top we were blocked by a wall of snow probably 12 foot high,. Going up was exhausting but coming back down was truly some scary stuff esp. when you got to the "steps" . We did a lot of walking that day but being in Telluride was worth it. Have fun and be safe, there are lots of things that could go wrong up there and help is a long way off if something goes bad. The Go-pro doesn't do justice to just how steep the pass really is.
Thanks for viewing, your right, its hard to show how beautiful that area is, and how steep it is also.
Looks like a fantastic track , I’m from Victoria Australia and it reminds me of the Victorian High Country. In Australia authorities close our roads over winter due to track erosion and being super dangerous. Thanks for a great video and greetings from Australia. 🇦🇺👍
Thanks for the views comments. Most of those trails will close during winter also.
This trail is only open two months out of the year. Most mountain passes in the US close for winter too
Black Bear Pass is twice higher than the highest mountain in Australia. It's around 13000 feet
Amazing. Too bad I wasn’t able to join you guys this time.
That would’ve been fun if you were there, maybe we all get up to the Rubicon.
Love this trail. I have driven manuals most of my life, but this is one trail where I do not miss it since buying my Bronco. 😵💫
Thanks for viewing. It definitely adds challenges to that trail.
Everyone mentions incidents happen on this trail but no one mentions them in detail
I went there last summer we were figuring out with my friend how fast we could drive on this crazy road had the time of my life...
Glad you had fun Thanks for viewing
Nice video, we have done everything around silverton and over the passes to lake city. We have stayed the last 5 years 14 miles up the trail headed to cinnamon pass. Unfortunately being on atv's we are unable to get to imogene and black bear without moving camp over to that area. It wouldn't take much to reach that side of the highway if they would make a trail to reach the west side.
Thanks for viewing. I appreciate the good comments. Hope you like all the content.
Will never drive or haul my YJ the 496 miles from my home to Ouray. I rent my Jeep in Ouray. As a result, I'll neve be able to do Black Bear.
Definitely been on worse in Colorado. It's gnarly, but a lot of hype and lore. It's gotten a lot of undeserved reputation. Let's face it. Most people in these jeeps are overweight city dwellers that don't spend their time in the back country.
U should go to the Dollhouse in the Maze. The best and challenging route. Stunning too
I think some trails should only be used with ATVs, this is one.
I actually prefer mud riding in GA.. lol worse thingthat happens is you get stuck in the mud and get pulled out
We did the Imogen side but saw this side from afar. Was memorable
It’s an amazing area, thanks for viewing. I hope you’re enjoying all the Content on the channel.
Heights are the only thing that give me anxiety and watching this gives real bad anxiety especially when the people are standing out and guiding the vehicles. I will stick to flat land 😂😂 not willing to risk my life for thrills or adventure. I will just enjoy your videos
Thanks for viewing and commenting.
Some of my buddies did this in a crew cab f150. Kinda glad i wasn't along for that one
The top part is the only hard part. The rest is just making sure you don’t drive off the switch backs. Thanks for viewing
I'm pretty sure 15 years ago on our way to Telluride, Google tried to get us to take a "short-cut" from Ouray to Telluride. We were in a Ford Focus and shit didn't seem right. We asked some dudes in moded FJs, they told us to take it if were looking for a fun and terrifying way to die 🤣
That would not have went well. Thanks for viewing
I did it when I was a little kid in a 62 Jeep panel delivery with barn doors. I still have it but it needs to be restored. I think the wheel base is shorter than most of the new Jeeps.
Im sure it’s a cool jeep
Great video. Funny how BBP is often listed as Ouray since it connects Red Mountain Pass to Telluride. BBP is not even located in the same county as Ouray.
Ouray is widely known, more so than others. I guess thats why. Thanks for viewing.
I've done this pass in a cj7 many times BTW never had to back up or adjust buttons.
I have done Black Bear Pass twice with guides both times...in a Suburban the first time...and a Jeep the 2nd. The guide said that he had driven Clive Cussler, the late novelist on the trail the day before. It is a thrilling trip for sure. I felt like I was in the right seat next to you. This was an excellent video!!!
Thanks for the compliment, i bet that was interesting in a suburban, thats a lot of wheelbase. But the view is worth it. Hope you like the rest of the content on the channel.
Dang! A Suburban!
We did this in the early 1980's in a CJ 5 with manual transmission .It was a rental which were allowed back then.It was a real workout with the manual. No spotter.
Thanks for the comments and viewing. It can be a little stressful, with a manual and the elevation.
@@JeepingMo It can for sure ! We were young and somewhat fearless lol.I would not do it on a bet now. We have run many of the trails in the Ouray area. Beautiful !
Living out the C.W. McCall song ?
🎼🎵 " ... In a US Army jeep car. Which we had rented from a fella' named Steve Austin. ... " 🎶
Did you have to "... 🎶Leave him a pint of blood for a deposit...🎶" ?
You rock CJ7 guy. These big, long 4 door things they drive. Now are not even jeeps. They're SUV's.
Yep they are 4wd minivans😂. Thanks for viewing.
Amen
Black bear is nothing like it used to be. It is now just a dirt road and has been widened over the years.
I’m sure it was greatly changed to accommodate the bigger rigs. Thanks for viewing. I would’ve liked to seen it then.
No F### Wat, Excellent Job!!
Thanks, I appreciate that. Thanks for viewing the channel.
I know my Willys can turn on a dime, but no way I'd try this! Love watching your video!
Thanks for viewing, glad you enjoy the channel
🎼🎶 "So, we took up off on the highway, and we come upon a sign says 'Black Bear Road, you don't hafta be crazy to drive this road, But it helps' ...🎵"
C.W. McCall
The steps are the only bad part, once you get past that the rest of it’s not too bad great views, thanks for viewing the channel
who needs rock crawler mode?
i just shift into low, low, low. (yes three boxes, 6.35 to 1. 4 to 1, 3.5 to 1). 4.10 gears 35 in mudders. dropped down to 4 or 5 psi. soft ride 4 1/2 springs, Detroit in the rear, arb up front, all behind a amc 258 with multi point fi.
3 boxes i would like to see that setup. thanks for viewing.
O lord, if ever I were to take this road, it'd be on a mule - forget the motor vehicles!
Thanks for viewing, the scenery is awesome.
The main road into Ouray isn’t much better.
I love that area. Thanks for viewing
Correction, "3 or 5" point turn. If you do only 4 turns then you missed one and that's really bad on that trail!
Agree. Thanks for viewing, hope you like the content.
It is not as scary as it looks. I did it in the rain in my Jeep and pretty fast too. Amazing views!! I bet I could do it in my Audi Q7.
It’s definitely about the views. Thanks for viewing
You had to say that. 🤔
A.........NOPE! nice scenery though
Wow! I highly doubt my stock Outback wilderness could make this.
It look’s worse than it is. Thanks for viewing
someday I'll see it.
Its worth it.
Guarantee the wife will not get anywhere near this one. Great video.
Thanks. It can get to ya.
My wife was not a fan of it lol
@@calvinvesco9883 did not like the off camber, or elevation?
@@JeepingMo all of the above! She hates shelf roads. The good news is she’s not scared of the mountain roads we wheel on in Utah anymore lol
@@calvinvesco9883 at least she gets out with you. Happy wheeling. Thanks for the channel support!!
Excellent video. After watching your clip, I’ll pass 😂. I would rather walk/hike if that’s possible 😅. ❤
Thanks for viewing. Glad you liked it.
I live here in Colorado. I'd love to go there. Not alone. I'd need help with my 4 door Wrangler
Its a great trail, as you know there aren’t many bad views in Colorado. What part of Colorado are you in
Yeah this would be a HECK NO FOR ME!
It looks worse than it was, thanks for viewing
Black bear is not a hard trail at all, last time i drove it was in my well built discovery, as long as you pay attention it's an easy trail, the last right before you get on the shelf road is a bit weird because you can't see the trail, but if you look you are still 10 feet from the edge after that the road is very easy, the switchbacks have enough room to turn an f150 I've watched it done
Totaly agree, where people get in trouble is not paying attention. Thanks for viewing.
Do you need a 4 point lift to make it? Or would a regular 6 inch lift on 33s make it? Thanks.
A stock rig would make it no problems, that XJ was stock . Thanks for viewing.
Too bad you didn't buy the six door Jeep.
Are atv's allowed on all these trails in Colorodo? I would love to do this on my Polaris General. My F 250 would fall off.
I am not sure. Thanks for viewing.
Eek! Beautiful, but not for me. Fun to watch though.
Thanks for viewing, hope your enjoying the channel content.
Did it in my blue 2011 f150 crew cab with a 6’6 box!! Not recommended…
How many point turns did you make.
Seemed like 100!! I was with Bydge and the Toyota club; kind of an outcast 😅
Never thought Black Bear was all that hard…..
Its just the heights, thanks for viewing.
@@JeepingMo yep…for sure….the consequences for failure are very big…..lol…thanks for the video….
Not for me. Even going over bridges makes my stomach churn
Not for me. Even bridges make my stomach churn
After just driving million dollar highway into Ouray this looks terrifying. Y’all are out of control but more power to you. Wish I had the balls! Lol
Its a lot of fun, i love the views there. Thanks for viewing.
How are the milestars? Ever had any sidewall trouble?
No issues at all. You can see the trails i have been on. They have been on for 60k miles
@@JeepingMo i noticed the trails and how your buddies are running milestars also. I just picked up a set haven’t been off road with them yet, but im glad they have held up that long for you i hope the same will happen to me. Keep up the good videos 👌
They suck
I went to black rock desert. And I have chunks out of the sidewalls. No other tire has done that
Cool video. I want to run this but safely. Can I come in from the Ouray side and stop at the switchbacks and head back the same way- in and out? I would not want to do the Steps in a rental 4x4. How far in from Ouray can I drive before hitting anything too challenging? Or, are there other drives you recommend? We want great scenery and some 4x4 action. I have done Moab, Ut a lot. Drove Hells Revenge, Chicken Corners, Shafer, Long Canyon, but I am still basically a beginner. I drove that one in a rented UTV. I have been to the town of Telluride to ski- very nice but did not explore any off-road trails- it was also winter time. Never been to Ouray. I think that would be the easier side to enter- is it as scenic? No way I am going down the switchbacks ever. One mTBI is enough!
Thanks for viewing, if you did hells revenge you can do black bear also. But up to the steps its both directions. The steps is one way only.
@@JeepingMo Thanks for the vote of confidence. Are the steps before the switchbacks coming from Ouray towards TRide?Trying to understand, how far IN I can drive before it gets hairy. I do not want to do the stairs. Also, any other trails nearby you recommend with great views?
It strikes me this was originally created as a horse trail?
Im sure it was. Thanks for viewing.
Glad I got rid of my Jeep before it made me stupid 😅
would a 3500 dually fit on the trail?
I think you know that answer. Thanks for viewing
Being afraid of heights is what keeps up alive. That's what rock climbers say, anyway.
Thanks for viewing, its a great view up there
@@JeepingMo I also meant to say that was the best job of showing how steep the steps are that I have ever seen.
@@ksb2112 thanks I appreciate it. Hope your enjoying the channel content.
Why trucks? This would be so much more fun on a dirt bike.
There were bikes there also. Thanks for viewing
It's not the pass that is deadly. Like any trail, it's the driver that make it deadly.
100% agree. Watching the scenery and not the trail. Thanks reviewing.
My Yamaha YXZ would eat that trail for lunch! Its like these Jeep guys try to take as long as possible to drive a trail and say it was so hard!
A bike makes it easy on tight corners. Thanks for viewing
You think a bike might be easier than a big vehicle?
Question: Does anyone have an accurate count of how many have actually died on Black Bear?
How "Deadly" is this pass?
Did some research: 2 deaths in recent history.
Im sure there is something out there, if your not being stupid, it is easy. I wouldn’t go while its raining. Thanks for viewing
HEY BUDDY ARE YOU LOOKING TO DIE, COME ON MAN
Thanks, its not really that bad. Thanks for viewing.
BADGE OF HONOR ?WTF,
Do dirt bikes ride up the one way? Does the one way partain to dirt bikes
The steps are one way for everything. Thanks for the question
@@JeepingMo They change the direction one day a year and only allow so many to sign up for it..
@@SegoMan that would be fun to do it backwards.
@@JeepingMo Yes it would, I forget what jeep club is in charge of it do some researching you should be able to find their vids and name. The trail is not that tough compared to some of the trails in Moab area, it's the long drop and sudden stop at the bottom that gets you. ^-(
Feet. The plural of foot is feet.
Thanks for letting me know that.
So it's possible to go to the summit and back down without taking the "steps" correct? Just not comfortable with that yet. Side by side, yes.....jeep, no.....lol
The summit is buy the Ouray side. So you can get there no problems. Thanks for the question and viewing.
NOPE😬🤯
Not brave enough to do this
It's truly a shame that these trails exist. Lace up some boots, park your jeep and get out there and actually experience it. Beautiful country spoiled by these roads.
If only we could convince more Jeep-Douches to drive off bigger, steeper, more dangerous roads...
