I'm always happy seeing people using their rigs to have fun, mods or not! I have an FJ Cruiser I have had for 12 years, and my second 5th gen 4Runner. My 4Runner has a Magnuson supercharger, a lift and King shocks. However, I keep telling certain friends they don't need to mod their rigs to take on trails, if the respect the vehicle's limits! This video is great because it shows people that they don't need several thousand dollars in mods to hit the trail☺️
Great guide, ran it last year (2020) for the first time, in our brand new stock TRD off-road tacoma, no issues. The first part of the steps is defiantly the worst but most videos skim over it for some reason. Thanks for showing the 3 lines, I went far left like you and have always questioned if that was the best one or not, it puts you literally right on the edge but never tips you on 2 tires. Agree with your recommendation, don't make this your first trail, one mistake and its going to hurt. We had a JKUR that we had lots of experience off-roading in CO and UT before hitting this bucket list trail.
GREAT CHANNEL, instructions, references, guidance and suggestions. Fantastic...forgot filming and the quality of the filming, both in terms of perspective and clarity. 1st class
Thank you so much! We really appreciate hearing that. I love making these and I want to make great videos for you all. We’re learning video making as we go so we hope they keep getting better. I’m currently saving up for a new camera so I hope to have that for the 2022 trail guides to provide even better visuals to you. Thanks for watching!
Thank you to everyone who made this video. I have a 2022 tacoma dual cab 6ft bed and I didn't think it could ride this trail.but if the ranger can do it . I think I can.
I did exactly what he said to do and do Ophir Pass first. It definitely made the pucker factor not as high as it could have been on Imogene Pass. I'm from Minnesota and we don't have the shelf roads like what there is in Colorado. Ngl, there was a spot that had some pucker purely because I couldn't see where my rear passenger tire was coin up from the Telluride side of Imogene.
@@coloradomallcrawlers I've done Engineer Pass today. It didn't make the offcamber west half any less nerve wracking but still fun. Like Morgan said, what's a life without challenge. Still gonna do BBP tomorrow, can't be much more sketchy.
I really wish it was open… it should be, lots of vehicles safely did it before the sheriff created a false narrative about its 2023 conditions. I hope you get to do it!
I'm really enjoying your videos! You give really good detail, tips and pointers. I live in WA state, summer 2021 on my drive back from visiing family in AZ I realized I'm so close to CO so I detoured over (spur of the moment thing, not on original travel plans) and crossed Ophir Pass with others I met on the Ophir trailhead. I also wanted to do Black Bear but I didnt have any luck finding anyone heading over Black Bear and crossing solo was out of the question, so I continued home with a trails stop at Moab. With a bit more planning I am going Black Bear Pass and other CO UT AZ trails on my next trip in 2023. It's also cool seeing these trail videos driven by someone who also has a JL 6spd.
That’s great to hear! Usually if you wait a bit at the trailhead, you can find others doing black Bear, but I understand not wanting to solo it. Good call! Thanks for watching!
Really liking your channel, great job. Video idea: 10-15 great trails that are not shelf roads, for those who love to run trails, but who don’t love the drop offs lol.
Tyanks for watching! One thing I’ve learned over the years is that there often is multiple terminology used for trail features, wheeling conditions, etc. Most wheelers use shelf roads as bench cut is more of a construction term, but I find it interesting to see what others say so thanks!
I traversed BBP August 2021 at the recommendation of a good friend who had never been on it, I’d never heard of it until the day before. 😳 LOL! 🤪 Luckily I fell in behind a young and experienced off-roader who was a great guide. Lots of fun, but it had my full attention and added a gray hair or two. 😁
I remember doing black bear in my XJ, thinking that the I was in the perfect vehicle with the great turning circle, stable stance, and overall nimbleness. I did it on stock tires with a 2.5 inch lift and front and rear Aussie lockers.
I will, probably next season before it opens back up. I’ll look into making some visually appealing no talking videos in the future for sleep, study, and work as I use those myself. Thanks for watching!
I would love to do Black Bear Pass. However, I have a tiny issue with heights....LOL...someday I will face my fear head on. Thanks for this video! It be so much fun to go wheeling with you guys.
One day I hope to take you guys wheeling with us, like subscriber runs or something. I’m just fumbling with this RUclips thing as I go. Thanks for watching!
Definitely want a little experience before tackling that trail! I wish I still had my Suzuki Samarai. It would make those switchbacks easier, and being narrow and small, would make the self roads less intimidating.
I owned one, and quite literally wore it out! Loved the thing! And yes, it would have handled Black Bear road quite well in it's stock configuration. Which is all I ever used it as. Stock, it is not the greatest rock climber, but for most trails, it was more than adequate! Damn, I miss it!
Great trail guide gentleman! While I've been in and around the San Juan's I haven't done any of the trails in the area. I want to big time! Thanks for all the hard work you put into these guides!
@@coloradomallcrawlers I'm checking out some more for sure. I came across your channel awhile back and sub'ed but I hadn't gotten around to watching them. I've put them on my watch later list so I don't forget!
Awesome! I made some editing mistakes in the older ones, but I’m trying to improve that greatly. Especially for the lesser known trails now as I think there’s some great trails that are rarely covered. The one I’m filming today is one of those. I definitely appreciate the support!
Just be careful, take your time, turn around if it looks too risky. I think you’ll be ok, but I’d wheel it on some other San Juan trails as I discussed in the vid before attempting. Have fun!
I don’t know why but this was probably one of the more realistic looking videos to the trail. Also you have a front facing camera stock? I’ve been looking at adding one.
Thanks buddy! That’s the goal! Honestly, the front camera was a big selling point, BUT on radical hill, I was trying to use it to self spot and it went well as you know, not so good 😂. It’s great for shelf roads tho!
Love the videos! I want to make one suggestion though. when you introduce the drivers and what there driving, you should show off their car they have that day, maybe film the b footage before you drive the trial?
Great to see, had a Jeep Cherokee and now have a Ford Ranger Wildtrak. Nice video. ( not doing any of your stuff been to Apache trail before they closed it in a rental). Live in Sweden.
I appreciate the feedback, I have included them in guides like Radical Hill and upcoming red cone where the pitch and roll is more extreme, but they’re filmed as I’m wheeling as Uconnect doesn’t have a screen record option. When the recording capture of data gets better, I’ll be able to add it easier. Thanks for watching!
Awesome! Well, that’s my big plan for the Jeep Liberty… I want to build an awesome little off-roader adventure vehicle. I don’t have a lot of money so it’ll be a budget build. I think it’ll be cool to see. Anyway, thank you for being here!
I appreciate you all for watching our stuff, commenting, liking… but I don’t want you guys to financially support me unless I’m offering something of value in direct exchange. I may try to work with partners to build the liberty to help keep my costs down, but when I say build it, I just mean, tires, rock rails, and skids. Or I may just wheel it completely stock.
The Rubicon is definitely on my list and will get covered one day, but I don’t think Sean will do it. The KL is awesome, but the Rubicon is just too brutal (even tho we think it could do it). I think Cotton may do it as he lives near there now and I’ll likely line up some other cool vehicles for that one. In 2022, the tougher ones I want to cover are Holy Cross, Hell’s Revenge (it’s silly, but I’ve avoided it because of a TJ rolling video I watched probably 1000 times when RUclips was new), and Mt. Blanca.
Two questions: 1. You mention turning around after section one. The trail looks really narrow, is two way traffic OK? 2. Can you camp along the trail. I never see any campers in the videos.
It’s narrow but two way till the point I say it’s one way. I don’t think you can camp on it, but I may be wrong. There’s better camping options elsewhere tho… black Bear is a drivers trail.
Awesome content and love the amount of information and words of caution!! Just a question though, it doesn't look like you guys aired down your tires much. Is there a reason for that? My offroad experience is definitely more east coast forest/mountain driving and here having the tires aired down would help prevent some slippage on those downhill rocky areas.
Most of my crew does 18psi (Zach and Sean definitely were), but I usually don’t in the trail guides as it helps me judge the trail’s difficulty. Cotton probably didn’t air down as he’s like me, he’ll air down in route if the conditions dictate it. However, I do recommend airing down for most people as it makes the ride better and it can make a bad rock crawling line safer. Thanks for watching!
This is a Superb video. Wonderful to see these sights and your skill. Please do publish the uncut video we would all love to see that! Two questions please. What is the max range of those two way radios/ walkie-talkies that you’re using mounted to your Rubicon’s dashboard? And what is size and make of those mud terrain tyres on your yellow Rubicon.
Thank you! I use Gaia with trails off-road trail waypoints or OnX. I don’t really have a preference… I like Gaia’s historical map overlays so that’s my go to and it works through CarPlay. OnX is easy tho and they use the FunTreks waypoints and I like their books. OnX didn’t work through CarPlay but I heard they’re working on it. Hope that helps!
Me too… if only I had been a few weeks earlier in ordering the JL, but I’m liking Baja Yellow. It reminds me of my favorite TJ and I absolutely loved that Jeep!
The JK definitely did, maybe the new one does too. I color grade focusing on trying to make the background look true to what we saw but that sometimes alters the Jeep’s hue due to the lighting conditions.
i would have to get my head examined, to bring a brand new 4 wheeler vehicle to that crazy pass, especially with the amount of accidents there... to those who go, make sure you have a will made!
I can definitely do that and the plan is to cover all Moab trails. It’s a bit harder as it’s difficult to get a group together for Moab, but I’ll film every time I’m there. I’m going today and trying to arrange a group, but I’ll look into seeing if I can fit it in and get a start time.
@@coloradomallcrawlers Very in depth and helpful video. I’m planning on installing skid plates and fabbing up a bumper to increase approach angle. Thanks!
Maybe someone has commented on this already, but I wish you would have mentioned what degree your off-road pages were ready at those steps. I’ve done Imogene, Engineer and Ophir. I’m sure this can’t actually be worse than coming down Mineral Creek, but considering the greater exposure, and the fact I’m always solo, may leave this one alone for someday in the future; hopefully with a friend or two 🤙🏼
There’s no screen record option on Uconnect. I have the pitch and roll documented in radical hill, but I can’t always do that as I’m doing a lot in these videos (filming, wheeling, monitoring the others in the video, shifting gears). The pitch and roll didn’t seem too extreme to me on BBP tho. I’ll try to keep an eye on and mention it in the future tho.
@@coloradomallcrawlers For sure a lot going on. I just noticed you had them pulled up on the dash, and thought that be handy info to put in your voice over. Just my two cents though 🤙🏼

We don’t have a solution. I sometimes make community posts, sometimes Facebook posts, and sometimes Instagram posts. It’s not a good method, so I’m thinking of going live during trail planning so the people that watch our videos may see them.
Hello, you are shooting cool videos with beautiful landscapes! If it's not a secret, what is the current mileage of the Cherokee CL and whether you change the oil in the PTU and rear differential ?
We don’t hide things here, but I don’t own the Cherokee Trailhawk, Sean does. He answers some of these, but the best way to reach him is via his Instagram, @thetrailhawkoverlander He’ll tell you whatever you want to know and we may eventually do a video on the Trailhawk durability as both Zach and Sean have decent experience wheeling them.
Hey Dewey. Coming out in September in a F350, 6" lift and 38" Ridge Grapplers. I'm taking it up Red Cone. The last time I went up was in the wife's Bronco Sport, and I'm confident the F350 will make it. My question is this: With a 14'-8" wheelbase (crewcab/ 8' bed) do you think an F350 can make the switchbacks on Black Bear?
We have two walkarounds of it, but I should have listed the basic mods in this video. He has done a lot. He’s also available on Instagram at @thetrailhawkoverlander where he shows off up to date adjustments.
Honest opinion?coming to Colorado the week of the 26th in July and we’re planning on doing black bear.i have a stock trailhawk and what to know if it’s possible for me to do?
@@coloradomallcrawlers we made it down black bear Imogene and engineer.wasn’t easy didn’t pick the best lines but we accomplished something I didn’t think we could.black bear is no joke I don’t care how many say it’s easy.
Unfortunately that’s the wrong vehicle for black bear pass and Imogene. Colorado trails are tight so wider isn’t the way to go and even my JL feels wide on some of the trails I do.
Here’s his walkaround. If you still have your warranty, I wouldn’t recommend the lift. The KL is awesome, but puts a lot of stress on the vehicle. ruclips.net/video/pBqNbZ5qObA/видео.html
I liked Bleepin Jeep’s, but do understand that… I think he was going for entertainment where I want these to be entertaining, but factual also. Love the new Jeep, but most videos coming are JK videos as I have a lot from 2020 and early 2021. All future videos will have the JL or Liberty when I’m driving and I believe our best stuff is coming.
He did… he actually thought this wasn’t as bad as he thought it would be due to the KL’s smooth descent. He definitely doesn’t like the heights so he could just focus on the right steering movements. I’ll show him this so he can offer any additional feedback.
I used .6 mph hill descent literally every single opportunity I had where there was a cliff on that trail. The first couple obstacles I didn't cus there wasn't danger but if they allowed .4 mph I would have used that. . I was nervous going around the side of the wall but I had good spotters that I trust and I went as literally slow as I could. I don't ever have to ride my brakes hard anyway 37000 miles I've never came close to over heat them
Unfortunately I’ve never seen you wheel so I can’t give you a yay or nay on it. I made the video so you can make your own assessment. I probably could get that vehicle across without issue, but I wouldn’t think it’d be easy.
@@coloradomallcrawlers I’m only worry about the one turn in 18:20 minute.. cause my truck is long the wheel base is 18’ the trail looks fun , iknow I can make it I’m just worried about that one turn . Thanks man
The trail is more about driver skill than vehicle capability. I don’t recommend it for 2wd vehicles, but an expert off-roader could likely do it on a dry day… but weather changes instantly on this trail so I will not recommend this even for an expert driver.
Yes, but the question is should it? Even with a great driver, it’s going struggle with its size on the switchbacks and on the shelf roads. I’m not for telling people what to do, but I wanted a Ford F-250 tremor to live in… I wouldn’t take it on this trail.
Yes sir, he has had his share of issues and I’m trying to convince Sean and Zach to make a video about the Cherokee Trailhawk. The KL is an incredible off-roader (in terms of finding traction), but it doesn’t handle the lift well from my limited understanding of the situation. I wish I knew more, but I’m not well versed on the Cherokee besides being impressed with its wheeling abilities. Sean will respond further later.
@@coloradomallcrawlers yeah just a comment from Sean would be helpful. What issues he had running his Cherokee and it’s just CVS/PTU or differential issues too ?
@@my4x4overland11 don't have 32s. I don't believe in running the biggest tires you can . Mine are only am inch bigger than stock. So as far as I can tell my tires haven't caused any issues other than rubbing I have had issues with both of those , my rear cvs have died and my front diff as well, but I don't think tires were responsible for any of that

Thank you!
@@coloradomallcrawlers This was very informative with no theatrics! Thank YOU!
Awesome! Thank you and I’m glad you had no issues!
Thanks for watching and have fun, altho, I believe the season is over for it right now. I’m not sure, but I think it got snow already.
I’m glad the recs were useful and thanks for watching!
@@coloradomallcrawlers I've done Engineer Pass today. It didn't make the offcamber west half any less nerve wracking but still fun. Like Morgan said, what's a life without challenge. Still gonna do BBP tomorrow, can't be much more sketchy.
Thanks for making these trails guides! They are very valuable and answers many questions we are wondering about! Keep up the good work!
It is great to hear that, thanks so much!
The trend of heavy loads on rooftop is a dangerous one, not only on off-chamber trails, but also on the the highway if you have to swerve.
He has had no issues with it.
Very true.
"He has had no issues with it"
It only takes once.
GREAT video! I hope to do this trail someday and I'll watch your guide over and over.
Thank you and I’m glad you’re liking it! I’ll put that in my video ideas notebook in the submitted by viewers section, thanks!
Thanks for the content.
I like to set the record straight. The proper terminology is,, “bench cut”road or trail. thanks again.
Glad you had someone to help guide you!
Well done my man, spot on.

Awesome to hear! I’m trying to get better in each one so I like to hear that they’re starting to get balanced. That’s my goal!
I remember doing black bear in my XJ, thinking that the I was in the perfect vehicle with the great turning circle, stable stance, and overall nimbleness. I did it on stock tires with a 2.5 inch lift and front and rear Aussie lockers.
Sounds like a sweet setup!
One day I'd like to get a two door XJ, that's a real Jeep.

I will, probably next season before it opens back up. I’ll look into making some visually appealing no talking videos in the future for sleep, study, and work as I use those myself. Thanks for watching!
Great job Dewie! Very nice selection of vehicles too.

I did it in a full size long bead. The steps were very easy. That one switch back was a bugger.
I absolutely could see that!
The Morgan Freeman voice over was hilarious! great video guys
He’s one of my favorites! Thank you!
Definitely want a little experience before tackling that trail!
I wish I still had my Suzuki Samarai. It would make those switchbacks easier, and being narrow and small, would make the self roads less intimidating.
I owned a Samaria and I would rather have the lower weight and longer wheel base in there.
Your "not Morgan Freeman" guy was AWESOME
Yeah he was, I may use him again in the future.
Great trail guide gentleman! While I've been in and around the San Juan's I haven't done any of the trails in the area. I want to big time! Thanks for all the hard work you put into these guides!

Lol, anywhere it’s wide enough. Thanks for watching!
Another great review. Thank you.
Thank you!
Can't wait to tackle this in my new f150 quad cab. Has 35" tires with a 6" loft. Should be no problem. Just worried about the width.
I agree with you. It looks exactly how I remember it
Thanks buddy!
It’s a good idea! I may try that in the future, thanks!
Great to see, had a Jeep Cherokee and now have a Ford Ranger Wildtrak. Nice video. ( not doing any of your stuff been to Apache trail before they closed it in a rental). Live in Sweden.

Great video...thanks.

Suggestion: add inclinometer readings/data to the vids. Always good to know!

Nice 1996 Jeep Cherokee
Sure is!
Actually thought that voice was Morgan Freeman. Will you and Sean be doing the Rubicon Trail anytime soon?
That narrator sounded eerily familiar to Morgan freeman!!
He was pretty good!
@@coloradomallcrawlers cotton did to like 30 or so I think cuz I used my compressor to air his back up

It's a great trail, but you absolutely cannot take the switchbacks for granted. The switchbacks are what makes this trail dangerous
For sure!

@@coloradomallcrawlers sweet! How do I join the next adventure?

Thank you for answer. In my country we have many cherokee 2014-2018, and we have many problems after 100-120.000 miles.
I can’t make that decision for you, but with as much pressure that is on black bear to close (Sheriff Bill Masters wants it closed), I wouldn’t.
What mods have been done to Sean's Trailhawk?
We have two walkarounds of it, but I should have listed the basic mods in this video. He has done a lot. He’s also available on Instagram at @thetrailhawkoverlander where he shows off up to date adjustments.
@@coloradomallcrawlers do you think a stock Cherokee Trailhawk could have done this trail?

Honest opinion?coming to Colorado the week of the 26th in July and we’re planning on doing black bear.i have a stock trailhawk and what to know if it’s possible for me to do?
Black Bear is more dependent on the driver than vehicle. I could safely drive a stock KL trailhawk on black bear, but due to its IFS, I’d be cautious.

Would I be able to do black bear or Imogene passes in my RAM3500 4x4 dually?
Unfortunately that’s the wrong vehicle for black bear pass and Imogene. Colorado trails are tight so wider isn’t the way to go and even my JL feels wide on some of the trails I do.
I have a 2019 KL. What are the mods done to the KL in this video and what size tires? Thanks for sharing
Here’s his walkaround. If you still have your warranty, I wouldn’t recommend the lift. The KL is awesome, but puts a lot of stress on the vehicle. ruclips.net/video/pBqNbZ5qObA/видео.html

BFG KM3s… I should have put his info in the video. If not, there’s a walkaround.
I would totally disconnect the rear sway bar on this road
You don’t have to, but not a bad idea!
How is the new Wrangler? You haven't been driving in the last 2 videos.
Spoke too soon lol
This is a lot more low-key than Bleepin Jeeps disaster movie.
@ 13:30 for Sean, did you use the trail decent control in the trailhawk? Is that a good idea in a situation like this to avoid the heavy braking?
He did… he actually thought this wasn’t as bad as he thought it would be due to the KL’s smooth descent. He definitely doesn’t like the heights so he could just focus on the right steering movements. I’ll show him this so he can offer any additional feedback.
I used .6 mph hill descent literally every single opportunity I had where there was a cliff on that trail. The first couple obstacles I didn't cus there wasn't danger but if they allowed .4 mph I would have used that. . I was nervous going around the side of the wall but I had good spotters that I trust and I went as literally slow as I could. I don't ever have to ride my brakes hard anyway 37000 miles I've never came close to over heat them
Hi I have a crew cab with an 8 foot bed , do you think I can make it all the way? 🤔

He got them from Rocky Road Outfitters
That wasn’t a good idea to take a tippy vehicle out there with a roof top tent. Take it off and then mount it back after.
He has had it in worst situations than that… Sean knows his vehicle’s tipping point and good driving can prevent a flop.
i feel like a rwd can do most of that? on some good tires and a decent lift. am i wrong?
The trail is more about driver skill than vehicle capability. I don’t recommend it for 2wd vehicles, but an expert off-roader could likely do it on a dry day… but weather changes instantly on this trail so I will not recommend this even for an expert driver.
did Morgan freeman dropped in?
It’s an impersonator, but I’d love to take the real one wheeling!
How aired down was the trailhawk?
18 psi
Can half ton truck do this trail?
Yes, but the question is should it? Even with a great driver, it’s going struggle with its size on the switchbacks and on the shelf roads. I’m not for telling people what to do, but I wanted a Ford F-250 tremor to live in… I wouldn’t take it on this trail.

Any issues with Cherokee’s Power Transfer Unit or CVS under 32s ?
Yes sir, he has had his share of issues and I’m trying to convince Sean and Zach to make a video about the Cherokee Trailhawk. The KL is an incredible off-roader (in terms of finding traction), but it doesn’t handle the lift well from my limited understanding of the situation.
