Ha, I’ve got an even crazier story. Got pulled over for speeding in hill country near Austin, and I was driving to my grand parents place for Christmas. So I left after work and this was between 11pm-12am. It’s a small town, built off a highway. Mind you we are on this dark highway which is pretty much dead at this time.
I had completely forgotten that I had my LOADED lcp 380 in my center dash, under the radio. It was visible and very much accessible. Officer saw it when he shined his light in my car and says “that thing loaded?” I said, yes sir. I apologize, I forgot it was there. He asks “you got any more in the vehicle?” And I said, yes sir, a shotgun in my back seat and an AR15 in my trunk. Officer says okay, walks back to his car after getting my license and insurance, takes a few minutes and gives me a ticket. He didn’t give a single f^ck
I’ve got a LTC in tx, which at this point in time they hadn’t passed constitutional carry. Texas law requires pistols be concealed inside your vehicle if not holstered on your body. Just gave me a speeding ticket and told me to have a good night. I was baffled he didn’t have me step out of the vehicle because if I were a bad person he would have had a very exciting night shift.

Professional standards prevent abuse in other situations. You can't set policies for every individual interaction, and everyone's standard for who no longer deserves to be respected is going to fluctuate. As police are representatives of the government, and as people are supposedly entitled to equal treatment under the law, establishing and maintaining a professional standard both protects people's rights and ensures (to some extent) that police testimony is dependable once charges are filed.
Tl;dr: When you have responsibilities, you don't get to act like a child just because you feel disrespected.
