    I wish I knew a lick about guitar. You do make it seem easier to learn than everyone else that I’ve learned from. I grew up with my dad building electric guitars ever since I could remember, and we had guitars all over the house and amplifiers and music, rooms, and drums and everything but I never picked up a guitar. I took onto the violin and the piano. But I should’ve taken onto the guitar and my dad always plays for me because I enjoy watching a professional. I love it but I just feel I don’t have long enough fingers and I have so many excuses because it seems so hard but then yet I can draw anything that I look at and make it look exactly like how it is. So everybody has third different talents and although I know how to produce music, I cannot play in the instrument.

    Okay so I was having trouble getting that part down with the pink movement and here's what I did that helped: right before you do the walk down place your middle finger on the B string 3rd fret and hold it there during the walk down. Then put your ring finger on the 4th fret of the A string and hammer on with your pinky to the 5th fret. The move your ring finger down a string and at the same time move your pointer finger to the 2nd fret G string. It feels weird at first but it start to feel natural. Hope this helps some of you.

    I’ve been studying this song so hard the last couple of weeks, and on every video of Frusciante playing it I could not see the slide with the pinky but I could hear it.
    I know he plays it a little different live and also has changed his technique over the years.
    I am 100% convinced it is a hammer on from third finger to the fourth. It’s still difficult but a little easier.
    I’m also pretty sure the chord slide from D to E is just the D, G and B strings.
    However you guys play this though, good luck to you and make it your own!

    I can believe I've just worked the song out from your first chord! I've listened to this song a million times. It's like it was partially built in:D it's slow ATM as that chord is a tough one. But I never thought I'd be able to do it. Thank you SO much.

    I was originally a classical guitarist and my reaction is--uncharacteristically for me on electric--that this is crazy easy. Must be something about a life spent in fingerstyle with five and six fret spreads. This must be the first electric song where I've found classical training to be a leg up. Interesting.

    Is it possible to do the Intro with a pick? I first learned the verse and I strum with a pick.
    Or is it easier to fingerpick the intro and use my finger to strum the verse as well.

    • @MartyMusic

      Only "tricky" part is when you need to pluck two strings at the same time but you can just pinch the pick with thumb and index and use your middle or ring finger for the other string

    I have been playing guitar for 13 years and am now 25 years old. I have been self taught for the majority of those 13 years. I have taught myself everything i know on the guitar by ear. I am a visual and auditory learner and have been wanting to learn this song for quite a while and am now just getting around to it thanks to Marty’s video.

    • @laylaalm4340
      @laylaalm4340 3 года назад

      How do people learn songs by ear? I find it quite intimidating as there is so much possibility of what you could play. I've tried by identifying the key by playing the major scale along the neck and then using the circle of fifths to try and figure out the chords. Is this what you would do too?
      Thank you:)

    • @drewc.4333
      @drewc.4333 3 года назад

      @@laylaalm4340 some people just have an ability to pick tunes up by ear. I am one of those. You either have it or you don’t. I also studied classical voice, guitar, and music theory in high school, which also helped me pick songs up by ear.

    Struggled with that first D for a long time because in my head I thought i had to play C shape with my middle, ring and pinky fingers and bar with the Index as Marty shows. It was such a struggle to get that shape down with that thinking. Then suddenly I realized the shape is just like the 5th string-based minor 7th chord which I play all the time! So just by barring all the strings, play the minor 7th and add the pinky and you have it ... in my head it's so much easier now. Try it. Keep up the great work Marty !

    Thanks Marty, it's a tough one by anyones standard in my opinion. I'm almost there with it after studying yours and also Frusciante's own youtube video.
    It's a tune I've often wanted to learn but was always put off by that big finger stretch. Practice and perseverance always pays off in the end. ( severe hand ache ! )
