Lyrics:
Sometimes I feel like I don't have a partner
Sometimes I feel like My only friend
Is the city I live in, The City of Angels
Lonely as I am together we cry
I drive on her streets 'cause she's my companion
I walk through her hills 'cause she knows who I am
She sees my good deeds and she kisses me windy
Well, I never worry, now that is a lie
I don't ever wanna feel like I did that day
But take me to the place I love, take me all the way
I don't ever wanna feel like I did that day
But take me to the place I love take me all the way
Yeah, yeah yeah
It's hard to believe that there's nobody out there
It's hard to believe that I'm all alone
At least I have her love
The city, she loves me
Lonely as I am together we cry
I don't ever wanna feel like I did that day
But take me to the place I love take me all the way
I don't ever wanna feel like I did that day
But take me to the place I love take me all the way
Yeah, yeah yeah
Oh, no, no, no, yeah yeah
Love me, I say, yeah yeah
One time
(Under the bridge downtown)
Is where I drew some blood
(Under the bridge downtown)
I could not get enough
(Under the bridge downtown)
Forgot about my love
(Under the bridge downtown)
I gave my life away, yeah
Yeah yeah
Oh, no, no no no, yeah yeah
Oh no, I said oh, yeah yeah

Curse them!! They’re probably responsible for his demise.

Anthony wrote this song about his loneliness due to addiction, but little did he know this very song would relate to much more wider spectrum of humanity, especially those who feel lonely
He was also homeless at this time. That’s why under the bridge. But i think you already know 😊 Just adding a little extra info
@@crazyplantmoomin3110he just wasn’t though. It was about his relationship with John and Flea fading and he was back on his rampant drug use and he would be shooting up with Mexican gangbangers under an overpass somewhere. Pretty sure he had a nice house at that point because of the recent success of Mothers Milk.

I am grateful for how this bands music continues to make my life full of joy. I always come to this song for strength. The origin is epic also never know how a poem in a notebook can change the trajectory of all our lives. Thank you RR and AK❤
I'm currently at the same beach, sitting at the same spot I first heard this song in summer 92
Special occasion!😯

Damn
Are you still there? If you are, it's time to go home.

I hit the coke and amphetamine wave of the late 90s, in England. I was 17, and was into mostly punk, and ska. But, this song was EVERYWHERE. It permeated parties, after parties, speakers, guitars.....You name it. EVERYONE loved it....Goths, punks, metalheadz, bikers, ravers....it just moved around and did it's thing. I guess it just finds everyone who needs it.
I lost my mind, my house, my job, my partner, had a bunch of hospital visits, surgeries, psychological episodes, went to war, went to rehab, and got kicked out of the army. I then struggled for another 8 years. I'm 5 years clean this month. Life is good. It's sad....leaving that world, and the people in it. Real life is strange. These days I'm addicted to physical training and gardening! Funny, eh?
Good luck everyone, and thanks Anthony!
On his interview with Joe Rogan, he said he was proud LA Eses would jame this song in their low riders. I thought that was very cool. He also describes how this song came to be with Rick Rubin.

I can relate to this 25 years ago. I ran away from home because my parents both are drug addicts. I live under the bridge for some time. It was some stressful times. so I tried cocaine and I was addicted to it. Until I met the love of my life. It was what you call love at first sight. to make her my Lover I need to stop. but I can't. so I started working at a Grocery store and I realized I can stop just by making myself busy. After Sober I cofessed to her and she turns out she loved me too. Now we have 2 childrens. and I don't contact my parents anymore because I heard from the neighbours they are still drug addicts. Thank you for hearing me out. This was the toughest moments at my life.

My brother was a drug addict, he died two days before Christmas last year. It had been ten years since the last time I saw him, he left home to make it big in LA.
He hadn't called home in almost two years, today we got the cause of death. Pneumonia, from severe autoimmune deficiency.
He had AIDS, he never called because he didn't want mom to know.
He did a lot of stupid stuff in his life, but there was always the possibility of a better future somewhere down the line.
This song and others will always remind me of him, and how there are people out there that just want to belong.
Love others, appreciate them, and help them when they're down.

Lost my Dad at 17 to a heroin addiction. I love this song as did he ❤️ I'll be 37 in September. Lost him March 6,2004 💔
My life...my story...was a sad heroin addict 35 of my almost 70 years. Glad nobody will ever never read this.

Mental illness is no joke.
I’ve been fighting everyday of my life. I’m only 20 and I’m feeling stuck. I nearly died in December but I’m still here fighting like I always have. I’ll never give up.
Please if you see this and you’re struggling, keep fighting I believe in you.

Peace bro
Tell me about it. I was looking for bridge songs. 😂
this may be one of the most perfect songs ever written. I grew up listening to underground hiphop, but this sound is undeniably soothing and the melodies make me happy and sad at the same damn time... I love this song so much, because it moves me. physically and emotionally.
Everytime.
It's up there.... I'd say "Soul to Squeeze" as well. Love them both. My favorites anyways.
My Dad put me on this song when I was a kid living in Orange County... My dad passed away from cirrhosis of the liver after my parents got a divorce. Anger consumed me, and I fell into addiction shortly after the age of 16. All I can say is I understand your pain, Dad. love you, miss you, Rest In Peace John Vega.
is there anything more fulfilling than being able to say I DON'T EVER WANT TO FEEL LIKE I DID THAT DAY? that's a chance to look back on the past and say no to it with complete confidence. to me that represents total clarity and control in life... just another word for bliss.
pepers kakakakakaka
This song reminds me of why I quit drinking
😢yes sir iykyk!! Good shit bro keep striving for betterment we here cheer you on brother!
I loved this song as kid. But when I came off heroin 13 years ago. It has a whole different meaning and hits differently. It feels like someone else’s life now looking back.

It's funny how pain is easier to accept through a song than someone actually saying that they're hurting.
Probably because we are seeing it through the lens of the fact that they cared enough to turn their emotion into art. That has an inherent authenticity.
Music allows for objective catharsis imo
That's a hell of an insight
Probably because you find comfort in seeing that other people are or have gone through the same thing you're going through.
Yeah it's better when people can be sad and entertaining at rhe same time. Less selfish.
I genuinely feel sad for people who relate to this, stay strong guys.....
Still trying to overcome some stuff ...
This song was my life...clean and serene thank god
@hellraiser est.1985 I was on methadone for 5 years and been clean for 3 now. You'll know when you're ready.
Do you know something we don't?
Pls don’t feel sad for me

Not really
Deep inhale
“I DONT EVER WANNA FEEL LIKE I DID THAT DAY” at the top of my lungs 🫁
Every time I hear this song it brings me back to my daughter. We would have long talks about her addiction. Living on the street I never stopped looking for her. I miss her terribly.
Damn, I Hope you have peace in your heart, keep strong!
I hope you get to find her back.
Send you my love brother I can relate 🙏

Blessings mayne. addiction is a disease. Hope you get your baby back. Love
Sometimes I feel like I don't have a partner
Sometimes I feel like my only friend
Is the city I live in, the city of angels
Lonely as I am, together we cry
I drive on her streets 'cause she's my companion
I walk through her hills 'cause she knows who I am
She sees my good deeds and she kisses me windy
Well, I never worry, now that is a lie
I don't ever wanna feel
Like I did that day
Take me to the place I love
Take me all the way
I don't ever wanna feel
Like I did that day
Take me to the place I love
Take me all the way
Yeah, yeah, yeah
It's hard to believe that there's nobody out there
It's hard to believe that I'm all alone
At least I have her love, the city, she loves me
Lonely as I am, together we cry
I don't ever wanna feel
Like I did that day
Take me to the place I love
Take me all the way
I don't ever wanna feel
Like I did that day
Take me to the place I love
Take me all the way
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Oh, no, no-no, yeah, yeah
Love me, I say, yeah yeah
One time
Is where I drew some blood
(Under the bridge downtown)
I could not get enough
(Under the bridge downtown)
Forgot about my love
(Under the bridge downtown)
I gave my life away
Yeah, yeah
Oh, no, no-no-no, yeah, yeah
Oh, no, I said, oh, yeah, yeah
Where I stay
The chorus at the end is so 70's disco
❤
The people that don't know the lyrics have never FELT this song!!

I'm Japanese. So I like this band
love how they tease flea coming into the song near the beginning: he's all contemplative, touches the bass strings, then is like "nah, let's give it another verse"
You guys seriously don’t gotta ask if we’re still here in 2022, we’ll be here for the peppers in 2080, all of your songs are absolutely timeless and my aunt who just passed not too long ago got me into you guys, every time I hear any peppers song I almost cry now, tied to really good memories, Anthony, flea, all of the boys, thank you for your work, it’s very important to me
When you hear the chillipeppers I believe you're aunt still lives on not in person but in spirit but she lives on through you I lost one of my best friends to cancer I always remember him through Pantera like he is there with me
So ask again in 2080?
Rest in Peace

Under The Bridge captures the vibe of living in L.A. in the ‘90s.
Easily one of the best songs ever written about Los Angeles.
I was born in a generation where I can go on the internet and listen to good music....
Jev's Dad wow you like RHCP do you want a cookie?
Icee Ultra is there a problem with liking RHCP but yes I would like a cookie
Have I seen you on 9gag?

Jev's Dad well said bro.
In 1992 my father died and I remember feeling "I don't ever wanna feel like I did that day" so hard - and I linked it with how it bad I felt during the time my father was sick and when he finally died in April 1992. But later it became something I referred to as I became more heavily dependent on sedatives and alcohol. Having to withdraw from benzos, alcohol, and other narcotics was so painful that each time I endured that struggle - that line came to mind. I did it over and over again, until in 2015 I quit drugs and alcohol for good. I still miss my father, as being without him comes to 30 years.
RIP

Live in Hyde park is a cd my babysitter played me all the time when I was 10 years old. 19 years later, and still my favourite artist of all time. That, and I will never forget the stadium Arcadium TV advert with Dani California and Snow. That came on the TV a year after I received live in Hyde park from my babysitter. Now a weight lifting, stoner, drinking, plumber/gas engineer. Yet some things never change

I know it's about heroin, but I can relate to the part of this song that's about the loneliness... this song helped ease my aching heart.... thanks...
Shrek MLG Master #420 bro ur name says it all😔
I think we all go through that in life from time to time.
Yea I’m always fighting loneliness...I try to stay positive
I don't know about you guys but I think after so many years having negative thoughts flowing our minds, we stop feeling any pity for ourselves and learn to ignore all of it to see the few beautiful and happy things in life. You could say my life is the most depressing and boring thing you could ever imagine, but I just don't give a fuck no more. Think about what you still have, even if almost nothing, cuz there are some who would pray to be where you are right now.
Paulo I don't know what you're going through right now but there is always something to be positive about, you can't always focus on the negative. Do something that makes you happy.
This song hits on so many different levels most people don't understand the real meaning of this song Under the bridge downtown is where I drew some blood I have there in my life I remember being homeless and hopeless on drugs doing a shit under a bridge without a care in the world thank God I am clean now and no longer homeless and hopeless but hearing this song brings back alot of memories and reminds me how far I've come if anyone Is out there down bad on there luck just know I'm rooting for you and there is always light at the end of the tunnel no pun intended lol

He now says the city of angel
Ask yourself how many times you heard this on the radio bumping out of people’s cars
How many times you sang along by yourself and with others
Even when it’s not playing and you just sing it to yourself..
That is not a coincidence
Now it still says angles in written lyrics and in lives and covers , BUT we didn’t learn the city of angels from a cover or a one off live did we?
Thanks for the lyrics. All these years I thought he was singing "under the mistletoe is where I drew some blood..." No wonder that part never made any sense to me. 😂😂
