Great video Mark! Drone footage superb as usual with perfect accompanying music. Beware the Fit, RV in their latest video James is wearing a n “ALWAYS SHOOT DRONES” shirt. It shows a figure with a rifle pointing at an airborne drone. Don’t know what that’s about as I’ve heard him say he wants to get a drone.
LOL! Thanks Joseph! We'll keep an eye out. It usually doesn't turn out well for those who try: dronedj.com/2018/11/19/man-shoots-gun-at-neighbors-drone/ Technically, in federal FAA regulations it's interfering with the operations of an aircraft.
I could almost hear the breaking bad intro music as you went up the beach but did you shout across the Rio Grand “ say my name “ sorry tv show is on my Brian still amazing how close Mexico is , wise decision taken not to hang around! Love that site sooo cooool and the beach to some great footage from your drone, the causeway looks great how long is it ? And that drive on the beach it’s a yes for me ! Thanks Marc still learning amazing America Gavin
If you liked this spot, Gavin, wait until you see where we end up next week! 😉 The causeway is about 2.5 miles long. America is large enough to be incredibly diverse, but we also love visiting your charming UK.
Catching up on the videos. This is really a fascinating area. We have a daughter in FL we need to visit next winter. This might have to be added to the list. Once we leave N Idaho next Sept, we need to stay on the road several months. We are looking for places to venture. Thanks
Thanks Mary! This week's new video (Premieres Wednesday evening) will include more kayaking, this time in Laguna Madre at Padre Island National Seashore a few hours north near Corpus Christi. For that episode we camped right on the Gulf beach, but there's also a dry National Park Service campground right where we launched the 'yak at Bird Island Basin
I remember your kayak community post from a week or two ago, and was looking forward to seeing you paddling in the ocean. That looked like great fun, and some good exercise. Glad it wasn't red flag warnings that day, the surf looked pretty bad earlier in the video.
We kayak salt water in the next episode too, Eric. However, during our entire two weeks along the Gulf Coast the surf was a good 4-6 feet, so there was no way that I was launching on the Gulf side, at least not with that Necky Looksha. In this episode we launched on the bay side of the Isla Blanca Park campground, where the county maintains a boat ramp, and in the next episode we'll be kayaking the beautiful Laguna Madre which separates Padre Island from the mainland.
If I may suggest, for your paddling technique don’t bend your elbows and twist your toros so you are using your back muscles. A tip from a guy that has paddles the entire Texas coastline.
Thought I had subscribed already but apparently not...I am on my Texoma Road Trippers account though. Either way, I am subscribed on both now :-) Loved this video. I'm finding so many different places I want to go thanks to you. I've been to Padre up by Corpus Christi but I have not been to S Padre YET! Thanks for sharing my friend! Brandon
Make sure you catch tonight's Premiere then, DSA/TRT! We'll be on Padre Island, but we'll start out in a beachside campground interviewing @RVTexasYall before moving on to boondocking on the sand within PINS. In between we'll cruise through Port Aransas and Corpus, and do a bit of kayaking in Bird Island Basin. At 30 minutes it's our most ambitious undertaking yet!
Wells On Wheels we have several high seasons. Spring Break, summer with families, and winter Texans. Depending on your type of business your peak could be any of them. I give sandcastle lessons so summer is my peak.
@@spidennis interesting (and a cool occupation! Mrs. Grand Adventure was fascinated by them while we were there and surely would've taken a class). Thanks for sharing. I was speaking only of the "high season" pricing at the Isla Blanca campground, so you've provided interesting insight.
Interesting travelogue of the west Texas Gulf Coast beaches. But once you've experienced the sugar white sand and surf of the eastern Gulf Coast beaches, nothing else comes close (except maybe the Bahamas) IMHO.
We can't disagree with that. The big thing for us was the ability to actually boondock *on* the beach, which a cold front finally allowed us to do in the next episode. We're not aware of any Florida Gulf beaches where you can do this.
@@GrandAdventure Correct about Florida beach access. The panhandle beaches I used to be able to drive out on have been overdeveloped to the point that beach access by vehicle is now heavily restricted. And forget about taking your k-9 pals to the beach. Beach boondocking is out but the Florida panhandle does have some great beach state parks suitable for RV camping.
@@DrJohn493 thanks for the confirmation. PINS (in next week's video) encompasses 65 miles of undeveloped barrier island beach, the longest protected barrier island environment in North America. Dogs are required to be "on leash or under control" at all times, which we found to be an interesting way to word it, and most folks we saw appear to interpret that as including under verbal command. Plus, at least on South Beach you're usually out somewhere with no one else around for at least a mile or two in either direction, so there's no one to disturb or offend by letting your dog play in the surf a bit.
David, boondocking opportunities in the immediate area appear to be somewhat limited. There is Boca Chica Beach, which we showed in this video, but we opted to not stay there out of security concerns. It's not clear to us if you are allowed to camp on the beach north of town. However, a couple of hours to the north there is wonderful boondocking on Padre island National Seashore, which we share in this video: ruclips.net/video/SqY-UIfQnRQ/видео.html .
I don't think that anyone made any kind of assertion on that point in this video. However, in this particular instance their monthly rate is substantially less than multiplying their weekly rate by 4. You've also got an enviably low monthly cost on your S&B -- ours is nearly 4x that amount.
So we discovered much to our disappointment, Don. The number of people milling about on the Mexican side, and the complete lack of anyone on the American side, made us wonder. So we checked and found this article from August in USA Today: www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2019/08/27/playa-bagdad-us-mexico-border-town-occupied-drugs-crime-cartel/2131161001/ Only then did we fully realize that not only was camping out there ill-advised, but also filming that spot was incredibly stupid.
I live here, and Detroit or other similar city scares me unlike Boca. Shooting at day time there is absolutely nothing to worry about. Folks camp on the beach all the time. If you’re still scared camp closer to the jetties and not the river. I know people that live on the river. Another option is to boondock just north of the city limits of south padre island at beach access 5 or 6, just like Boca just not next to the river, plus restaurants are close by.
We agree. I don't recall a tropical system striking the Brownsville area last year? I could be wrong, of course. Harvey hit the Padre Island/Port Aransas area 2 years ago in August 2017, but that's quite a ways north, and the subject of our next episode.

Another good video. Looked like a cool place to get some good seafood.
Thank you Steven!
Yikes! Definitely won’t be staying there on the beach either. We’ll be heading for Texas in February and are taking notes😋
Definitely catch next week's new video, then. It was the highlight of our Texas travels thus far.
Grand Adventure Looking forward to it!
Honey and Me camp on the beach at the SPI side, it’s all round better.
You guys be extremely careful. Nothing there is what it used to be. Stay safe.
Always wise to trust your own feeling about safety we all need to be reminded of that fact...
So right. When your gut tells you something, listen to it.
Amazing video! Thank you!
Thanks so much!
Catching up on the videos. This is really a fascinating area. We have a daughter in FL we need to visit next winter. This might have to be added to the list. Once we leave N Idaho next Sept, we need to stay on the road several months. We are looking for places to venture. Thanks
We most definitely enjoyed the Texas Coast, it's a worthy detour for you.
Ya had me as soon as I saw the kayak...
Thank you, very enjoyable
Thank you very much, @shore51!
Nice video - Great video on South Padre Island. Hope to not visit on my way to Florida. Looking forward to your next video
Thank you Richard!
Not visit? Is that a typo?!
Good vid Marc.
Thank you!
Thought I had subscribed already but apparently not...I am on my Texoma Road Trippers account though. Either way, I am subscribed on both now :-)
Loved this video.
So summer is peak season? I would think with snowbirds it would be winter?? Your videos are 1st class, great content. Thank you.
We were as surprised as you are. And thank you so much ❤️!
I did not catch where you said you were working.
Ron, I work for a small excess & surplus lines insurance company based in Salt Lake City.
Does that campground have seasonal rentals? Looking for a place for next winter.
I'm not sure, Wayne. I'd check their website. They sure have enough space to do so.
Where to boondock near where you camped?
David, boondocking opportunities in the immediate area appear to be somewhat limited. There is Boca Chica Beach, which we showed in this video, but we opted to not stay there out of security concerns. It's not clear to us if you are allowed to camp on the beach north of town. However, a couple of hours to the north there is wonderful boondocking on Padre island National Seashore, which we share in this video: ruclips.net/video/SqY-UIfQnRQ/видео.html .
Magnifique !
Merci Dany!
💗 the video
Thank you! Glad that you enjoyed it.
You failed to mention that Isla Blanca has the best surfing on th gulf coast.....🏄♂️
Good to know, Rey! As we're not surfers ourselves, thanks for letting our other viewers know.
My stick and brick costs me $500 a month. So how is living in a campground for $800 a month a better deal?
I don't think that anyone made any kind of assertion on that point in this video. However, in this particular instance their monthly rate is substantially less than multiplying their weekly rate by 4. You've also got an enviably low monthly cost on your S&B -- ours is nearly 4x that amount.
Nomad X wow, 500$ thats a great deal! Im from Colorado, that might get you a room in a community house here!
Safety first
good video
It’s Isla Blanca, not isle Blanca.
Wise choice, Marc, to not stick around Boca Chica Beach. It is a drug cartel famous crossing. Glad you are safe.
So we discovered much to our disappointment, Don. The number of people milling about on the Mexican side, and the complete lack of anyone on the American side, made us wonder. So we checked and found this article from August in USA Today: www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2019/08/27/playa-bagdad-us-mexico-border-town-occupied-drugs-crime-cartel/2131161001/
Only then did we fully realize that not only was camping out there ill-advised, but also filming that spot was incredibly stupid.
$200.00 is a steal when it's that hot.
Imagine that was all under water last year.
We agree. I don't recall a tropical system striking the Brownsville area last year? I could be wrong, of course. Harvey hit the Padre Island/Port Aransas area 2 years ago in August 2017, but that's quite a ways north, and the subject of our next episode.
Mark Reynolds wrong part of Texas! Port Aransas and Rockport got hit. Missed SPI completely. I know, I live here.
