I agree, in the moment, it was maintaining a safe speed. Now can it be both safe and feel annoyingly slow? Yes. I just wish it could overtake quicker around semis (their speed limit is 35mph) then get back over to the slow lane and do its thing.

The irony that you were saying it was going too slow "locals go much faster", then you come across an accident. Rather suggests it going slow was the right thing to do. I certainly wouldn't expect setting a target speed would override what it thinks is the speed limit, that would be up to you to manually accelerate in that situation, as you did.
I still think overall this sort of driver assist is dangerous personally, as it risks you getting complacent when its working well, creating a delay in reacting when it makes a mistake. Plus the whole idea that if it makes a mistake, you are liable for the result, just doesn't seem worth it.

Imagine driving from here in Germany (high-speed Autobahn, narrow, crowded cities, many roads leading through small towns with bike/pedestrian interactions), through Austria/Switzerland (Hairpin turns, implicit "rules" who drives first) down to Italy with some of the above but additionally some of the narrowest old city roads. I know autopilot will not respond to lights or stop signs, but my wife was using it on a windy secondary road and it handled curves at much higher speeds relatively than your car is doing in the video. I was surprised. It was back roads and our 2018 model 3 was doing speeds of 40s and even 50s on these tight curvy roads without issues or going over lines. I was behind her in our 2020 x. We got basic autopilot on the 3 from a referral but otherwise had nothing else and did not before. Maybe it was not making the decision like fsd does to drive slower and was just doing set speeds but it was able to handle it safely.

All autonomous vehicles must not exceed the speed limit, ever. If they are in an accident and the logs show the car was going faster than the speed limit, then that would be a very large problem.
Defending the car in this case using the "everyone else speeds, and some even go 100mph etc", will not hold up in court

    • @BigBen621
      @BigBen621 7 месяцев назад

In a classic case of unintended consequences, limiting autonomous vehicles (AVs) to the speed limit in the name of safety would in most cases reduce safety, rather than improve it. The reason is that if AVs were, for example, limited to 70 MPH on the freeway when everyone else is doing 80 MPH, no one would engage the driving automation, and so the dramatic safety benefits of driving automation would not be realized. Further, it would create large speed differences between AVs at the speed limit and other traffic at perhaps 10 MPH over the speed limit, which is much more hazardous that a modest increase in speed.

My 2 pet peeves with 12.3.3 is it fails to accelerate to the Speed limit after a stop sign or signal. On a 50mph road with zero traffic and the speed set to 50, it accelerates to 42 or 43 and then takes 2 more blocks to get to 50.
A more dangerous problem with 12.3.3 is its tendency to hug the left side of the road, and frequently short cuts turns…placing left side tires on lane lines or over lane lines. My car frequently rides with left tire riding on the Bott’s dot or worse yet on the yellow center lines, and sometimes over the lines on mountain curves.

Driving 75 on Hwy17 Southbound is very dangerous. The initial section from LG to Scotts Valley is banked correctly but a couple spots like Deadman's Curve, Glenwood Cutoff and Laurel Curve are fairly tight turns and in the wet road conditions you see during this video drive, those turns are the site of frequent spinouts and accidents by drivers not familiar with Highway 17. As a long time driver on 17, I recommend caution at those turns as well as general caution. Once you come out of the winding section at the Scotts Valley exits, the road is much safer and ok at higher speeds like 65 all the way south to the Highway 1 exit after Pasatiempo Drive. Please don't take this video's driver seriously. He will be the guy zipping around traffic and putting everyone else in danger.

14:41 This is one of my big issue with FSD. There is a 20 mph yellow sign but the max speed is still 65 mph.
In the curve, the max speed is lower but I could not read it. Is it a GPS value?
15:10 So the car decide to make the right turn, but the driver think it was not good and need to accelerate using his foot.
However on the screen there was no vehicle visible on the left. Is it a problem with the B pilar camera not able to see the coming traffic?
I have the same problem when I try to exit from a parking when turning right but without having the front of the car inside the lane.
Also it is alomost impossible to see if there is any bicycle, electrical scooter, or motorcycle coming from the left.

I was implying that some people drive faster than speed limit. Usually locals. Others are scared of the road, I don’t blame them. When people going 50mph overtake semis going 45mph around blind turns it can cause accidents when faster traffic in the left lane flies by.
Pair that with bad weather or drinking a lot of drivers tend to spin out or hit a divider. Often times a semi overturns as well or loses its brakes.
There are many reasons accidents occur here but you can see I safely overtake multiple semis and cars in the video while maintaining 70mph with the accelerator.

Typical young kid that has no sense of other drivers around him. Just wants to get to point B with no regards to speed limits. This is why we have all the accidents on highways. I can’t believe he admits drifting on that highway! That is total disregard for other people that could be on the highway.
Tesla should immediately remove his access to FSD. This kid is going to kill somebody! I just hope Tesla sees this idiot and takes him off the FSD program. I love it when he says that FSD slows down when there are yellow lights flashing. That area has a road coming on at a 90 degree angle with no on ramp. So if a car was traveling at a high rate of speed on the highway and a car was coming on the highway at that intersection you couldn’t stop in time because the car entering the highway is far below highway speed. Please Tesla take this irresponsible drivers FSD away!

@@AIAddict tbh, I got this stuff from Dirty Tesla’s videos.
Plus anecdotal evidence myself. On my first drive with v12, it was really good and human like… until it went onto a highway / parkway. Then the auto max speed disappeared, and it started behaving like v11. I could tell cuz it was going so well before, and it felt a lot more robotic and screwed up.
But if I’m wrong, I’m open to changing, and never meant to spread any misinformation. Just thought I had evidence if not proof.
Btw, love what you guys do. And thanks for doing it. We need this software to be tested to bring about the advent of full autonomy, which will eventually save many, many lives. 🫡

@@homosapien6031 interesting, if dirtytesla made a comment about this then I’d have to lean towards believing him. I’ve yet to see him spread any false information.
I do know 100% that when speed is set to AutoMax it’s guaranteed to be v12.
However, I cannot confirm or believe that it suddenly drops to v11 when navigating on highway. All version have been single stack since V11 not multiple stacks.
I will go on highway here in a few and test to see if auto speed max disappears when I enter the highway.

@@AIAddict Yeah he’s awesome. I’m grateful that he does this too. From what I remember, he gave it as a reason he couldn’t get a 0-disengagement drive to work the day before. This was one of his early v12 videos. He said that was because it’s “basically on version 11”.
I’m not 100% sure he said what I just put in quotes, but that was the point at least. The quotes were meant to separate my text from what he was trying to say.
I don’t think it’s officially v11. It is single stack, but the lines of explicit C++ code that was replaced were used for city driving, since highway driving wasn’t as much of a problem, and higher speed, therefore higher risk.
That last paragraph was just what I think happened. I have no clue what’s actually going on, to be clear. I just know the car feels and behaves very human-like off highway (with auto max speed enabled), but still robotic whenever auto max speed disappears (on whatever it considers a highway it seems)
There are even some exits around my area that should be completely fixed with version 12, but still behave wonky and robotic, exactly like they did on version 11

Your hand is driving the wheel it looks like the whole time. You're maybe doing little hand regroups to drive it. Please post one where the autopilot is driving without you obviously sort of controlling it. Yes or no? Are you driving it looks like it.

    • @AIAddict
      @AIAddict  7 месяцев назад

The Tesla Driver Monitoring system requires the driver to rest their hand on the wheel when the self driving mode is turned on. Roughly every 30-90 seconds it will also ask you to slightly tug or nudge on the wheel to verify you are awake and paying attention. I believe this is what you are seeing.

This is the worst video I have seen on FSD. The idea of FSD is to make the roads safer not drive like a human would. Traffic deaths last year totaled over 41,000 deaths. Aggressive driving couples with excessive speed are the result of many of those deaths.
