"This drummer wrote lyrics, he's singin'!" Might be the best first take I've heard of Clays' drumming ever.

Definitely check out some of their newer stuff. Playing God, ABC, Chimera, and Ego Death are all great songs/videos!
EDIT; Another great one to check out would be their live play of Genesis in Los Angeles of last year. Amazing live performance.

The drummer was a baseline player and he is actually counting (blending shred music, trap music, math rock, etc), the song itself was inspired by a Jaden Smith song. All of these players are masters at their craft and together they make masterpieces that are palatable to the non-music oriented ear. In the past pure instrumental guitar and shred was only appreciated by musicians because the common listeners don’t understand what’s happening. Yet Polyphia’s brand of instrumental music is very much palatable to the non-music oriented. Don’t get butt hurt if you are a simple catchy tune or sick beat listener that’s not the point. The point of Polyphia is that they want to make insanely awesome and difficult music to increase their own skill and versatility while also composing a masterpiece, while also allowing the common listener to enjoy it as well. This video is from 2018 and they have grown a lot since then. Tim Henson, the first guitarist you see wrote this song, and he now is covered in tats and he has a sick neck tat as well. The bass player Clay Grober grew out his hair and stil is absolutely phenomenal, the second guitarist Scott Lepage looks the same and while he isn’t as social media oriented as Tim, he is on the same level of skill and mastery as him if not better than him. The drummer Clay Aeschliman also looks about the same and yes he is a monster at the drums. Check out Playing God, there is a genre switch in the middle of the song and it is amazing. I believe most people consider them progressive rock because they are leading the charge in evolving music into todays mainstream computer-generated garbage (not saying it is all garbage, lyricism is nice and all but the music itself is now only recognized by the casual masses from the beat or it’s one of the 4 chord pop songs throughout the ages, it’s usually not made by the artist themselves and lacks any form of complexity or depth, which is why music is kind of failing and hip-hop and rap is taking the center stage, it’s less about music it’s now about a performing artist on stage and their lyrics). These guys are the pathfinders, they are the highlanders now. they are taking music to a new plane and their innovations are just being followed. One of the greatest instrumental shred guitarists from the 80’s Steve Vai, is a featured artist with them in their song Ego Death, similar to Polyphia a massive innovator and revolutionary in the musical front and he is still innovating and performing today.

I REALLY hope you you guys go down the Polyphia Rabbit Hole. I love watching guys listening to this band's material the first time through. I love how I've heard this 100 times and I still hear something new EVERY time. ❤❤❤

So in regards to training tim was classically trained in violin and the drummer was in a competitive drum line. I've heard that the bassist is classically trained but tbh im not 100% on that. They talk openly tho about not actually knowing much music theory.

If Cory appreciates what an outstanding bassist can do to elevate a song, please check out Jinjer's gorgeous thru-composed (coz #WhoNeedsChoruses, that's why!) single "Vortex", swiftly followed by Eugene's bass playthrough vid for the song - it's a 5-string drop-A #Masterclass. The -glissandos- slides, the casually fingernail-raked chordals, even some slap'n'pop where few others would think to place it.... it's tremendous. Also a blueprint for any single-guitarist heavy bands out there to sound HUGE. If y'all are not impressed, I'll give you your money back myself! ;)
p.s. I don't know what audio kit you're using for these music reactions, but if it doesn't involve a proper HiFi amp & expensive HiFi speakers which can move air below 30Hz (Eugene's lowest open string in "Vortex" is 27.5Hz, Clay's bass in this Polyphia track may be the same, & Henrik's 5 & 6-string work also), *please* pop on reasonable headphones so you're not physically missing the low end (& thus feel) of some of these modern bands' mixes. Oh, & watch the levels from your mic & browser grab into OBS- this is *real* quiet.
All the best from a random music appreciator in Scotland! :)

It's usually done as a way to avoid copyright strikes, especially for newer channels with few subscribers.

RUclips can be weird and very asymmetric about enforcing copyright. Minor editing to the original can help (as someone mentioned) especially smaller channels from getting instantly struck.
