- In this video, Heen takes us through RØDE Capture, our free iOS video app designed specifically for today's content creators.
RØDE Capture is an intuitive video app with unique creative features for capturing professional video and audio for your content. It is the only video app to offer complete in-app control of RØDE microphones, and with its immediate interface and powerful dual camera modes, RØDE Capture is ideal for everything from recording video interviews and reporting in the field to creating content for TikTok, Snapchat, or Instagram Reels.

So an important thing not mentioned here that really is a bit of a game changer: in the video settings, with either of the dual camera modes, you can record each camera to its own individual file meaning you can edit a more pro looking two-camera piece in post; full frame of whoever’s talking. That’s amazing and not obvious when you first play with the app because the functionality is hidden. When you open up Picture in Picture mode it’s great that you can toggle which camera is the main and which is in the box, but I was a bit disappointed that you can’t switch these while recording, like having a live vision switcher. That would be awesome and time-saving, as a possible alternative to editing two files in post.
Thanks for the feedback Bill! Unfortunately the switching mid-recording is not something that's possible as its a limitation for this setup in the OS itself
@@rodemic Yes I suspected that was the case. Props to @trevorlong (Two Blokes Talking Tech & EFTM podcasts) for making me aware of the separate vid files feature.
question, will the app be available for Android?
Due to limitations with Android, it will only be available on iOS for the foreseeable future. Sorry!
i used the PIP mode of this app and when I saved the video, it had no audio although the first ones had so i thought there would be no problems. i wonder what happened? will i be able to retrieve the lost audio?
The Futute of audio capture and processing is your phone and a usb or wireless microphone
Just be careful when you are using a Video Mic Me-L, you need to make sure the app recognises the mic (it sometimes doesn't ) and then you get no sound recording at all.
Please ...why not for android users???
And can we get option to buy /add extra wireless ME transmitters ???
I am already loving it so plss..🙏👍
There are plans to offer standalone transmitters soon in the near future
The wireless go 2 is still mainly apple supported, please fix android systems. We are left out here. This new mic is not inc android users😢
@@froggyfrulz he problem isn't Android, but the operation systems they are installed on. Rode should definitely consider making a version for high-end Android users ex: Samsung S23 Ultra, Google Pixel etc etc
An exciting new product! Does it offer a high pass filter for the Rode VideoMic Me-L? If it does not, would you put in a suggestion that they add it? This is a great product for small businesses, and this is the one feature needed.
Great question because that is one of the short comings of the Rode VideoMice ME, I use the one for Android.
Hey there, unfortunately you won't have access to the same DSP on a VideoMic Me L vs something like a VideoMic GO II or NTG which includes the high pass filter.
Hope you can update the app and enable 4K 60 when in Picture In Picture mode. It’s only up to 4K 30 when it’s in this mode.
Thanks for the feedback- we'll pass that onto the team.
Looks awesome! Looking forward to give it a shot with my Wireless Go II setup. Does Rode Capture also allow HDR recording? I shoot in 4k30fps HDR on my iPhone and also publish like this on my RUclips channel. To me, not having HDR would be a dealbreaker. Is there any difference in video quality compared to the first party video app on iPhone or does Rode Capture offer the exact same quality and post processing as the native Apple app? thx for your feedback!
Hey! Did you manage to find answers to these questions?! I also want to know if this app catpures the same quality HDR video like the iPhone's native Camera app or does it downgrade it somehow?
Still only a few Android phones allow the use of external mics when recording video. So this is probably one of the limitations why it's first available for iOS. But I'm sure Rode will work it out.
I have a second or third generation Motorola Android device with the 5500 milliamp battery and most of all it's tough as nails. I remember my first generation Motorola phone in the series, being able to power a road USB nt1 and record using it, while I was literally behind the counter at day job in between customers.
Then my second generation in this newest one, want t recording the same road microphone, to the same phone only ironically newer versions.
I found a workaround or maybe what was supposed to be the main reason they may limit external mic recording an Android or certain phone manufacturers. I got one of those USBC to regular USB female adapter to plug into my Android Motorola USBC plug on the phone, but the unique thing about this Android Motorola phone multi-port was that you could flip a little switch on the side of the four port dealio, and it would light up the the 4-port USB adapter with ambient inside bluelight. Kind of like my rode mic.
So I don't know if that USBC to 4 female USB multi-port adapter with the switch is tricking the phone, because the last two Motorola's I had also had the 5500 milliamp battery but only the first one recorded until I found this special Android USB C male to 4 Port backlit AND powered.
Oh, and this adapter also had a socket for the small round personal electric razors sized charger, that you could plug into this Jack and charge the phone, and also power your USB devices that are connected to Android phone via multi-port adapter.
I suppose I better try this software and quit forcing Google voice to text to do such a crappy job all the time.
Lol
I noticed a lot of digitized pixelation and loss of quality in video when using this app. Great concept, hope to see it finalized!
Interesting feedback, we haven't heard this before. Can you reach out to our team? We'd love to make sure your feedback is implemented: rode.com/contact
I hope there will be manual settings for the video (e.g ISO, exposure etc), so we can capture more professional videos.
Nope - I just wrote a comment regarding this - shame
Not ISO, but video quality and framerate seem to be selectable. It does have a problem on iOS 16.5 with mic and menu buttons on the top falling off the screen, so I hope they correct that soon, but it's a brilliant app.
Thanks for the feedback Koray, we'll pass it onto the team for consideration in future updates
Hi! I can capture a stereo line in with a Rode Me? I try but the sounds is mono..
Is there a possibility for android compatibility for Rode Capture,it seems Rode now caters for Iphone users only as if they are the only ones who buy their products,I have more than 10 Rode products in my kit but I'm beginning to think Rode is not for us the lower classes.
This would have been ideal for me, and many, many others using android. Looks like we've been left out of the equation on this one.
@@tomwatson283 Better to ditch them as well.
@@ordimamedia I can't do that. I've got too much invested in mics and stuff to ditch them. I'm sure something will turn up.
@Tom Watson Yaa its not easy, even I have invested a lot in Rode gear, fingers crossed they'll do something for Android.
Hey there, unfortunately due to limitations with Android, RØDE Capture will only be available on iOS for the foreseeable future. There are still multitudes of RØDE products that are Android compatible, so if you're ever unsure of what setup will work for you, please reach out to our Service Team. ☺️
Great integration for not having to jump to Røde Central for mic setup. A (transparent) teleprompter would be a nice feature (a‘la Smartmike+) to add down the road.
Thanks for letting us know your feedback on this one!
I agree, would be mega useful
Does it support HDR video and Cinematic mode like the iPhone's native Camera app?
Hey Juur, it doesn't support HDR video at this time. While iPhone 12 onwards can theoretically record in YUV-10bit, Capture only records in RGB-8bit.
Android?
That's it. My firstborn will be named either Rødezra or Rødella. Keep it up, people. You're killin'!
🥲
Rodella is a very bad slang word in Greek… but who cares… just to let you know. (Normally ροδέλα means washer).
@@MrYankosG Noted. Switching to Rødelena. Much obliged!
My rode wireless to go mic audio quality is still not good when using my iPhone 13 Pro Max to record compared to the camera even with the type SC7 cable. Am stuck with using my £15 Boya mic 😢will this app fix the audio issue?
I was in the same boat and bought the SC7 cable this week only to discover that Capture does not see my Wireless Go II. I rewatched the video and realized that they are using a Lightning to USB-C cable. I tried using an iPhone cable but even the Apple cables do not work.
I reached out to Rode Support and got this response
“I can confirm that the SC15 and SC19 are both also Lightning Accessory cables and will allow you to connect the Wireless GO II to your iPhone and use with the Capture app.”
I’ve ordered the SC19. Hope this helps you.
@@HeyWeirdos thanks for sharing, I will order mine but please do let me know if it works and if the sound is better 😊🙏🏾
@@FaithOjone I haven’t received my new cable yet. However, I just update the firmware on the units and now they work with the Capture app. Visually mic icon doesn’t change, and none of the settings appear but it’s now working with the SC7 cable. So theirs been some progress.
When u gonna have this also for android?
Hi Rode team - can I use this with my new PodMic USB to record interviews? I just got the new mic and want to take it out in the field to capture sessions in dual camera mode. Thanks!
Good question! The answer is yes, the PodMic USB works with RØDE Capture, but full suite of audio effects are not currently supported at this time. However, the rest of the app's functionality works flawlessly and you can also adjust the gain of it in the app. This is something we're looking into updating in the futre.
@@rodemic Thanks! Today is day 1 of me testing out this awesome new mic. Can you explain what you mean by "full suite of audio effects are not currently supported" - what are the audio effects, and are you saying these effects will work with another Rode mic, such as my Lav+, but just not the PodMic USB? Thank you
My issue is if you want to use the selfie light it shrinks the vid and it’s hard to see yourself. Otherwise it’s darker than your phone cam.
Manual settings for white balance, iso, exposition, and other, and it will perfect app🔥
Thanks for the feedback, we'll pass it onto the team!
This would be great for us to use If we can choose 25 or 50 fps. Van you please pass this on to the team?
That's good feedback- noted! Will let the team know.
Can it shoot in a log profile for better colour grading in post?
It would be nice to be able to import a picture or a video into the app to do a reaction video or talk about a slide. Is that a feature coming?
Hey Eric, not at this stage but we can pass this onto our team as a suggestion!
I am noticing when I use the AI Micro with the a Rode lavalier mic, or any other lavalier the recording levels are extremely low, even the with gains set to the highest levels. I am only experiencing this using the Rose Capture app. When I use the same mics in the Rode reporter app, I experience no issues. Also, using the native iPhone mic in the Rode Capture app I have no issues. This is very frustrating because I like the Rode Capture app but it isn’t working well with the lavalier mic. Can you please investigate and advise.
Will be perfect if add some compresion or limiter on this app 🙏🏻
Also, will you be making a similar app for android?
Unfortunately not. Due to limitations with Android, it will only be available on iOS for the foreseeable future. Sorry!
When doing split screen, can you upload a video to one screen and then record yourself?
Not via uploading no, but you can live react to videos using the Picture-in-Picture mode with both the front and rear cameras simultaneously activated
Hi RODE Team. This app looks great! I'm a videomaker and I have two sets of RODE Wireless Go (old model), Are these mics compatible with RODE Capture app? Thanks!
Hey Carlos, thanks for your support! The original Wireless GO isn't supported in Capture at this time unfortunately.
@@rodemic It's SO sad... Ok, thanks!
I have an off topic question. I saw multiple configurations oh the rode mic being attached to the phone. Tech me sensei. I've been looking for a clean way to attach my rode go to my phone or anywhere else that us secure
Hey there, you can use the MagClip GO! This is a handy accessory for attaching the Wireless ME to a magnetic surface, including MagSafe iPhones.
Does changing/adjusting the settings of a mic in the Rode capture app change the settings just within the app or does it change the mic's settings too?
It will change the mics settings which will affect how it records on any apps you record with the same way RØDE Central has done previously.
Doesn't seem to work with my version 2.2.3 Wireless GO II attached to my IOS 16.4 iPhone 13 Pro
Did you get this to work? I have a similar setup and using the SC7 cable with the apple adapter.
Rewatching this video. It looks like the answer is with the SC21
30cm USB-C Lightning Cable. I can’t get it to connect with an Apple lightning-usb-c cable either.
I reached out to Rode Support and received this reply
“I can confirm that the SC15 and SC19 are both also Lightning Accessory cables and will allow you to connect the Wireless GO II to your iPhone and use with the Capture app.”
For Android it is needed and recommend please release it too, as u all mics are compatible with Android. I used three rode products but i need it on Android
Hey there, due to limitations with Android, it will only be available on iOS for the foreseeable future. Sorry!
@@rodemic No problem whatsoever recording external microphones on Android devices direct to native camera apps using Samsung Note 9, Note 10+, Note 20, S22 Ultra, or S23 Ultra Phones in conjunction with 3rd party video apps (FilMic Pro, mcpro24fps, DJI Mimo), using owned Rode Wireless Go II, Rode VideoMic, Rode Wireless Go, Saramonic, DJI Wireless Mic(s). Rode Central App proved useless as a Stand-alone App on Android. What exact limitations on Android devices are you referring to? The DJI Wireless Mic is more intuitive even without an App. Make the Rode Capture App (Stand-alone) Available for Android Devices, it would make using my Rode microphones over my DJI Wireless Mic(s) a preference. currently the DJI Wireless Mic(s) are used the most and often due to the easier control of these microphones.
@@aLtodd65 looks an new CEO at Rode is taking such childish decisions. Though Rode made good marking steps in past, still Rode central and Rode reporter app is available on Android. Such bad steps like not launching rode capture for Android will eventually make Rode to loose a 80%Market. Rode lame excuse will give DJI chances
what lav mic are you using with this rode ?
This is the Lavalier II
What about the Wireless Go II? I am connected and don’t see any fancy settings. Is there any gain control? I just can’t seem to get any use out of the Go II 😢
Hey there, be sure to use a compatible cable such as the RØDE SC15 or SC19 as many standard lightning cables won't work. Once you're connected, tap the microphone icon in the top right corner and you will be able to adjust the gain from the app. If you're still experiencing issues, chat to our support team here: rode.com/en/support/contact
Can i use this ONLY for audio?
You're better off using RØDE Reporter for just audio!
thanks!@@rodemic
Is there a way to export the audio from wireless go ll using an iPad?
You will need to access the onboard recordings via computer using RØDE Central at this stage.
I noticed that the zoom-indicators disappear when you make some adjustments for the microphone... after you "send" the mic-info back... the zoom-indicators dor not return on screen... a pity but Røde might be able to fix this... (I HOPE and WISH at the same time). The ME is nice and interesting... and I use it next to my Røde Wireless GO II ... nice work Mr. and Mrs. Røde ! Take care...
Hey Max, you will notice while recording the 0.5x, 1x and 2x indicators disappear but you are still able to pinch and zoom to recompose your shots easily.
@@rodemic thank you, I knew this, nicer it would be when you can actually see which lens is in use…
How does the direct monitoring works with a SC15 and Wireless GOII? I'm a bit confused.
You can monitor via the 3.5mm jack on the Wireless GO II receiver while plugged into your iPhone via USB
is it available for windows?
It is an iOS app for mobile devices only at this stage
Thank you so much mam for your packaged information.
I am at a crossroads. I need to upgrade my Android phone. I have been away from Apple for over a decade and don't wish to return. This one app is seriously making me consider an iPhone. My question, is an Android app in the making or am I wasting my time holding out for one?
Good question Stephen! To be honest, we would love to create an Android version of this app. However, it's a bit more complicated to create an Android camera app as the hardware on every Android phone is different, so we can't make any promises about if and when there will be an Android version for now.
I am a RODE user, but sad to say I am using ANDROID 😢
I recorded a 30min video and it didn’t even save! 😩

Would it be possible to use XDM-100 with RØDE Capture ?
Hey there- that's not possible at this time. The XDM-100 is compatible with Android phones but not iOS at this time, so it can't be used with Capture.
@@rodemic Thanks for your answer. Then, which RØDE microphones can be used with which RØDE software on iOS ?

RODE should have Android support from the start, not just wait and see, may be later...I am a RODE user, just so you know.
Many Android models don't support external mics, so this is why it probably takes longer.
If very old android phones do not support external mic that I understand. But my Android phone from 2019, which is 4 years old does support recording via external mic, via both 3.5mm and USB.
@@domTT You're lucky. Pixels do, Samsungs do and a few others. But not many. And Rode probably doesn't want the disappointment.
Rode go 2 dont work well on androids phones either. Fix this, being apple bios is not helping your brand
Just get an iPhone yeesh 😂😂😂
Has it got “pause” button?
Yes it does!
When will this come out on Android?
Hey @AS-ih2dk - thanks for your interest in RØDE Capture. We'd love to bring it to our users on Android but the difference is that Android camera apps are a bit harder to develop as there are dozens and dozens of different brands and cameras to develop for. But it is certainly something we're considering, so we appreciate you taking the time to give us much needed feedback on this.
@@rodemic thanks so much, nice reply. Maybe just go for Samsung Galaxy to start, keep up the good work!

No but our app RØDE Reporter can do this!

How can I make my rode Videomic go ii sound more crisp?

But you can activate some pretty incredible processing available to you with the VideoMic GO II in USB mode via RØDE apps: rode.com/en/user-guides/videomic-go-ii
any word on when and if available for Android?
Hey there, we'd love to bring RØDE Capture to Android but it's unlikely to be soon due to the fact that camera apps for Android need to work on many different devices.
@@rodemic that's a shame. Just bought 10 sets of ME for work.

Hey Samuel, the RØDE Capture app doesn't offer live reactions to source videos, but if this is something you'd like to see in future updates let us know!
you need NEW devs to make this work for Android on Samsung Galaxy S23 ultra... I'm sure your marketing team would agree.
Are footage files from the app stored only in the device or does it also allows to be directly stored in the cloud?
They will be saved to your camera roll like the generic camera app

Can I invite people if I need to interview them
Hey there- to clarify, do you mean to ask if you can invite people online to join you? The answer to that question would be no as RØDE Capture can't be used for online calls at this time.

Come on now, don't blame your development team problems on the platform.

There are a few reasons the current bluetooth spec wouldn't be a great choice for wireless mics like ours. A device like the Wireless GO II, if it worked over bluetooth (as it's implemented in phones and other devices today) would be less reliable, have shorter range, and transmit lower quality audio.
Android app? This would be awesome on a Samsung S23 Ultra.
Due to limitations with Android, it will only be available on iOS for the foreseeable future. Sorry!

I never understood why one would come out with a app for one type of phone and not the next especially when android is the leader in phone sales.
Because most content creators use iPhones due to better experience with photo and video apps.

It's simple...while the overall market skews towards Android in total sales numbers it's the lack of uniformity that causes development issues. With iOS you know you only need a handful of screen resolutions and processing support with Android it's all over the place that causes delays.
Oh so, you don't care about us Android users.
