Perfect video ! You're the first to explain the huge stereo difference between the Sc15/Sc16 and the trrs/trs adapters. I planned to use my adapters, you changed my mind. Thanks !
This is great information! I have another tip for iphone users; you can use a genuine iphone camera adapter (about 30 bucks), and plug the USB side of the charging cable of your wireless go 2 into the adapter, while plugging the other end into the wireless go 2 receiver. Then, just plug the lightning part of the camera adapter into your iphone and boom! You're good tog go.
I appreciate the thorough explanations. I purchased the Rode Wireless Go 2 several months ago. I need to jump in and figure out how to use the devices. Again, thanks!
Thank you so much for the clear explanation why the trrs wouldn't work when you want a true stareo/split audio track. Do you know which cable should work with the newer iPhones that have an usb-c port? I don't think a regular usb-c to usb-c works, so it must be something in the cable itself... I don't have a lighting to USB c adapter so haven't been able to try the sc 19 with an adapter yet!
I am not sure since I have not tested these devices. However, the DJI Mic 2 has it's own mechanism of connecting to the iPhone by using their adapters, so that should just work by default.
This was a great video! Thank you! Before I make the investment, will the same technique work with the Rode wireless me? I have not seen a video that suggest I could do the same as you’ve done here with that particular model.
What happens with the AI-Micro device? If I have to interview like 3 persons plus myself! This was helpful but I think I need to go one step further based on Rode's feedback. What's the upgraded cable for the new iPhone with the USB-C connection?
I think when you have an iPhone with USB-C you can use just about any USB-C Data capable cable to connect the Wireless GO or Pro. It's just the Lightning connection where a special cable was necessary (however, I have not tested this as I did not upgrade my phone this time around).
Thanks for that Video. Is there any experience now with the I phone 14 ? I got no Audio out of the I phone 14 using the TRRS to TRS Kabel and the Adapter. And the Phone Camera did not show any Audio Channels. Is there a App which works better then the org I phone camera? Cannot figure out wha the problem is. And before buying the Rode cable wanna make sure the setup on TRRS to TRS works
on the bottom of the receiver are two buttons...the mute/db button and the button to switch between mics 1 & 2. If you hold both down for a few seconds, you'll see the right and left channels on the display combine to one channel to go to mono. Switch back the same way.
Hi Chris, I have the RODE Wireless Go II a dam connecting with the Rode SC21 cable to my iPhone. I am struggling with the quality of the audio. I am recording with one mic in mono mode and to me it sounds like it is distorted. I have turned the gain on the mic to the -30db setting and am using the RODE Capture APP. JUST wondering what else I should try? Cheers Drew
It sounds like you are already doing all the right things. One thing that does come to mind: the Wireless GO II is not meant to be held right in front of your mouth - I know, we see a lot of people doing that online… but it's meant to be clipped to your collar and probably also not to scream into. So, maybe that's it?
Usually, the iPhone Camera app works. You can test by plugging it altogether and then "tapping on the mic capsule". Then unplug to listen to the file you recorded and see if you hear the “tapping” clearly. Then it was the correct mic.
Dear Chris, first thank you for your video. I have one question after watching it. I can see on your iPhone screen the camera is on and as you explained on the right edge I can see the rode volume bar moving. my question is : is the interface from a rode app(what's the name of the app?) or it is just iPhone camera with rode's app? thank you!
so basically what you are saying is that if you want to do a two person interview for live stream its best to do the merge setting, but if you are going to do an interview that you will edit later you should do the left right split?
Great video Chris! Just bought the Wireless Go II (single set) yesterday and had no idea what is the most optimal way to connect to my iPhone until I saw your video! The only question I have is whether it possible to substitute the RODE SC19/17 cable with the standard USB-C to lightning cable manufactured by Apple, or are they fundamentally different cables in application? Many thanks.
From all my tests: you do need the one form Røde. There is something special about it (not sure what) but the standard charging cable from Apple or any other have not worked for me.
I have a new Rode Wireless GO II running into an iPhone 13 Pro Max and can't get it to recognize both mics no matter what I do. Plus, I bought the video app you were using and it won't "switch to external" like it did for you in the video. I'm lost.
@@kris_ya I actually got someone on the phone at Rode and they informed me that smart phones won't recognize both mics in stereo mode... told me to put it in mono mode and it would work, and it did. Thanks!
So if going live with 2 people in a room I should use the rode wireless go connected to the iPhone in mono mode correct? Meaning both channels pick up the same audio?
Yes, in Mono mode both transmitters get mixed together so that you are streaming one signal and it's not strange that one person is in the left ear and the other in the right.
@@ChrisSpiegl I didn’t know this. So if I plan to interview someone I should use mono? I was under the impression that split would be better for that? Very interesting

If I’m just recording off my NTG or wireless go 2. Is it better to use just the merge? I heard using split May be better since it’ll save another version on another channel. Please let me know
When you use split it means you can later on decide how you want to mix the two mics. If you merge you'd have to get the individual files from the transmitters to do the same.
I don't think that is possible. However, you can use the local recording which is done on the Transmitter to sync in post and have split channels that way.

Or is the only option for the audio to sound normal on headphones to use the mono setting? Thanks very much.
Chris, I have been attempting to put my transmitter into my iphone and record through the iphone camera using the Go 2 Audio. I have all the cords for the set-up, but I cannot find settings information on any videos or tutorials out there. Which settings on the receiver and transmitter should be set in order to simply press record on my iphone camera and audio is captured through go2 into the iphone video?
When you plug everything together you should not need to set any special settings on the recorder. You just have the audio signal right on the iPhone and it gets recorded there.
Hey great vid! Does it have to be an official cable to connect to the iPhone? I have a standard non rode cable and it won't connect. Can you used the USB C - USB 3.0 and an adapter?
I have found the same. Apparently the Røde cable has some other standard. I am not 100% certain if there are other brands that makes a compatible cable, I just know the SC15 and SC19 work with the iPhone.
I am filming a interview and its just one person should turn on both transmitter after clicking merged mode. Can I then mute the second transmitter and let the interview hold on to it or should i keep it with me
If you mean the recording internal files? I have not specifically, but I cover the recording settings in this video: ruclips.net/video/ejeEpeQdE1M/видео.html
If you have the Røde Wireless GO II (the second version) then you can use the cables described in this video. If you have the version 1 of the Wireless Go, then you'll need the ones mentioned in this video: ruclips.net/video/JvP8mBPJWbg/видео.html
I have purchased the Sc16 cable for my Note 9 I cannot get any sound from the 2nd microphone even though you see the volume bar go up when speaking to it. What am I doing wrong?
