This was exactly what I was looking for after looking at their essentially useless quick start guide.
I DEFINITELY appreciate these 3 things:
(1) how to use a stereo mic (because I was curious about this and before this product, I don’t think a 2 channel mic could go to a mobile device - but I could be wrong on that.)
(2) not to use a powered mic into it (especially since they have no warning of this on/in their packaging - that I saw at least)
(3) the difference between the 2 apps

I just got mine and had a question regarding what you were saying at 12:25 in the video. Im not sure what the use case of that is. Keeping different gains but merged. Can you help me understand where this might be useful?
Setting the two channels at different levels helps if one of your interviewees has a quiet voice and the other has a strong voice. You would then merge them so you don't have hard left and right channels for the recording. No post production needed later.

Is there a cable to plug into the iPad 3.5mm headphone / mic hole. (Edit) if I do everything you just did to adjust levels with the rode wireless go 2 using my iPhone 12 Pro Max , can I then send the mixed audio out from the monitor plug of the micro into the 3.5mm in my iPad for live-streaming

Yes that will work Evelyn. If you are using a DSLR camera, Rode have a Y adapter lead to join the two receivers as well.

I have a question:
Using AI Micro, Wireless II Go and Lavalier Go, is it possible to participate in Zoom or Teams Meeting, where I would be wireless to the laptop (but monitoring the laptops audio output (from Teams Meeting) with heaphones and transmitting to the laptop my voice via the Lavalier Go). The laptop external speakers would be off. All the incoming audio from the Teams Meeting would be going to my headphones.

Great video but to be honest I'm a little bit disappointed in the new lav 2 to microphone.

Yes that is the same conclusion I came to Bobby. I ran a test recording with it plugged into my zoom H5 recorder and the final recording needed some me tweaking to get a balanced sound.
I have 2 questions, and can't seem to find an answer by looking at spec pages or reviews. First, Can the headphone jack output be used to listen audio in other applications, like youtube or a phones built in music app for example? Second, does it work with the built in camera app on android phones? This is the second review that showcases filmic, so I am wondering if you have to use that because it doesn't work plug and play with the standard camera app. This is the best review I have seen on this product in terms of clarifying how to use it.
Graeme, yes you can use it to listen to music ect via headphone port. Sorry I don’t have an android device to confirm it but that is what Rode are advertising it can do.
@@GaryDmedia I actually bought one and can confirm that this is possible. Which is great because it means it completely eliminates the need to buy a separate headphone adapter.
It also works with the stock camera on my android device. It gives a notification that it is recording from usb device when it is plugged in. It seems it will record from either input (1 or 2) without installing any apps from rode, not sure how a stereo mic or 2 mono mics work yet, as I only have one mono mic to test with currently.
@@GaryDmedia I never did find this info before buying, since the demos mostly just showcase the rode apps. As an additional note, it also does sound monitoring with the stock camera app if you have headphones plugged in while recording.

Is there any advantage going through the AI Micro to the phone with the WGII as inputs as opposed to going directly from the WGII receiver to the phone?
The best connection for the WGII is directly connecting via a digital cable to your phone. The AI-Micro just gives you other options like multiple lav mics or mixed WGII and a lav or small shotgun mic like a VideoMicro+

Is there a way I can use the ai-micro for live stream videos with my Sony zv-10 camera
Nice vid! I can't seem to get it working in stereo mode on input 1. It simply merges left and right into mono, and I have no stereo image. Have you actually tested if this works? In the video you skip over the results of this config. Thanks for your time.
I have a Lavalier II & ai micro. They arrived today after watching this video.
I’ve downloaded the apps, plugged into iPhone but I’m getting absolutely nothing? It’s just not detecting the microphone. Any suggestions?
Just wondering whether you have updated the firmware ect and the Rode app is indicating it confirms the ai micro is connected?
@@GaryDmedia i managed to figure it out, i pulled it slightly out of the AI micro, and the sound came in, and now it works fine when fully inserted.
Just now trying to figure out which app i should open as the mic is more sensitive with rode central, than it is with rode reporter! sure ill figure it out maybe haha
That’s great to hear. Just remember you can use either app to reduce the sensitivity of the mic input.

Great info. It cleared my doubts on how to use with mobile phone recording. I have doubt? does the audio quality change if i use this AI micro interface instead of a 3.5mm to usb-c adapter for my android phone? Does the audio quality also change when i used it with the PC 3.5mm input than directly inputting my rode video micro into PC and recording via OBS?
My only thought is that if you don’t need to use an adapter to connect a mic, don’t use it. Extra equipment in the signal chain reduces sound quality. Hope that helps.

Hello Gary, thanks for this clear video. I have a problem using this Røde AI-Micro on my Xiaomi 13 phone. Setup is Split input , lavalier micro's on input 1 and 2. This works perfect on my old POCO f1 phone recording stereo sound on video's and audio recordings. Same setup connected to Xiaomi 13 gives only mono sound coming from both lavalier micro's. Connecting stereo source to input 1 and selecting Input 1 doesn't help either. Still mono. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks, Erik

That may be possible but there are better ways to monitor audio.
can i do instagram live with this interface?
Yes, the setup just give your microphone an input into your mobile. I haven't tried it myself in Instagram.

Yes that is a possibility Gifty, the Rode Reporter is a dynamic mic that does not need phantom power. An XLR to 3.5mm plug lead may just do it. This Rode interface may be your best option if you use an iPhone rode.com/en/microphones/mobile/i-xlr
Can you run two separate rode go 2 systems through this device for a combined total of four mics?
Yes you can, but your output to the mobile will only be 2 channel.
Each receiver would have to be set to merged. Not the most controllable outcome.
AI-micro only gives you 2.6 V plug in power.
If channel one on the micro can split the two channels from left and right why do you need the extra cable to do that?
Chris, Good question. If you only ever intended to use a single lav mic as a mono signal on both channels you would just use the headset input. Or lightning to headset adapter plus a converter if you are using a TRS plug. The AI-Micro is really designed to take advantage of the two track camera apps.
Gary, your answer is incorrect. I had time tonight to test my theory that the AI is not needed with the Go II to get perfect split audio. I used the accompanying Rode USB-C to Lightning cable plugged into my iPhone and the Go II receiver. I placed one transmitter next to the radio in the living room and stepped out into the garage with the other and started recording. The left channel picked up the radio only, and the right my spoken words only. I pulled the footage into Adobe, and each channel is separated from the other and there is no bleed.
Now with that said, I did get the AI for splitting other mics have, but with the Go II, it should not be used.
Chris you are correct, there is no need to use the AI-Micro for separated audio tracks to the iPhone.
The only advantage of the AI-Micro as shown in the video is the ability to have total adjustment of the audio level going to each channel. Thanks for clearing that up.
@@GaryDmedia hmm… in the video you used Filmc Pro and that app allows the adjustment of both channels, it’s what I used for my testing. Only the native camera app didn’t allow for adjusting individually, but it did auto adjust each channel. Also, I looked at iMovie, it does allow adjusting each channel separately.
I guess my point is when creating content like this, people (most) are going to see what you posted and assume they need this $80 gadget with the Go II to get split recording. It’s just a little misleading, that’s all.
Point taken. Thanks Chris. I may have missed something with FiMic Pro, but how were you able to get separated adjustment of channel input gain on the FilMic pro app? I didn’t think that was possible within the app.
what's mic and equipment i need to film and record from the front camera of Samsung s21 ultra ?
Im trying to figure out if I can use this adapter with a Rode filmmaker kit and a Google Pixel 6. It has a usbc and no headphone jack. It should work as the fimaker is just a wireless mic after all
Yes there will be no problem connecting the filmmaker kit to this input. I can’t say for certain that the unit will work with the pixel but the rode adapter is very versatile with the latest phones.

I can’t say for sure Steffen, I don’t own that phone but the requirements are USB-C input. Modern phones like yours should be a problem.

Hi Garry I have my recording volume set to high, and its coming through as high through my headphones, but when I play the recording back, the volume is way too low. I've tried various mics and the playback volume is still unacceptably low. Are you able to suggest what might be the problem?

I have noticed a similar thing with my gear. I have found I have had to raise the recorded audio in post production when I am editing the video. I don’t think the input is very sensitive.

Seems it's not so much the input that isn't sensitive, because it's very loud and clear through the headphones.
It must be that some component of the software isn't saving it at the same volume it's being received at.

Yes that may do it. I hope there are some more options in future firmware upgrades.
I had the same problem. The audio you hear on the headphone is not the audio you will get. It's a shame.
I am no sound expert but don't like the idea of adding too much gain to get a sound which is strong and loud enough for professional use. I used this interface to connect an iPhone 13 Pro to a Deity XLR transmitter and tried different handheld microphones: Sennheiser, Neumann, Behringer and a Rode reporter. Strangely enough, the lowest sound was from the Rode mic! I adjusted the gain in the Deity XLR transmitter and it made a big difference but, as I said, I don't like the idea of adding too much gain.
In addition, I made the same connection phone to XLR transmitter using a ugreen lightning to audio adapter . No Rode interface. The sound was MUCH louder, much stronger. And no need to add gain. My problem is that the Deity receiver is designed like a toy as it doesn't have a port for headphone! So the only way to monitor the audio being recorded to my iPhone is using this Rode device. Unfortunately , the Rode AI micro requires at least 18 db of audio gain in the Deity transmitter. It varies according to the microphone I am testing. The Rode reporter mic needs at least 27 db gain. The mic which needs less gain is the Neumann.

I have one of these Rode Ai Micro things. It makes a horrible loud clicking noise when an app starts. Worried that it's damaging my hearing. :(

I'm just wondering if it will help you to switch to airplane mode. The Rode unit may be getting some interference from the cell radio in the mobile. I really hope you can resolve your problem. Make sure you send a message to Rode's contact page. They may have a suggestion for you too.
@@GaryDmedia It's more likely a driver issue. I notice the quality of these devices is pretty poor. I plugged it into my PC and can hear quite a lot of static noise. I.e. Ambient white noise.
@@GaryDmedia I also notice the crackling got much worse when the phone is inactive, so it goes dim. Ie turns the screen off. When the screen comes back on it makes very loud popping noises.
