All polytheism is originated in Animistic shamanism. the spirits of the mountain, of the water, of the sun, of the sky have developed into Gods after the common spirit of the dead of an ancestor has been differentiated with the spirit of nature and a higher dominating spirit. The divine or aka a God/Goddess
Different culture, same spirit. Appreciation of and gratitude towards nature's elements, with personification (deistic) or without personification (animistic), is ubiquitous among non-Abrahamic traditions. This is why Indo-Europeanism, Dravidianism, Tengrism, Korean Shamanism, Daoism, etc. are mutually compatible, and when they meet, tend to create syncretic cultures rather than communal enmity. There have been wars between some of said cultures, though, but these wars were not a means of religious subjugation, but of redistribution of wealth.

I stumbled on a book today in a charity shop called Cossack: Warrior Riders of the Steppes. As I skimmed through the pages I was reminded of this channel and our nomadic horsemen ancestors who came from that region. Now you upload this, wonderful! Made my day.
On my mother's side, her Male lineage are descended from Cossacks, they had to leave Russia in 1930 because of filthy communism. I found it to be an interesting addition to my mostly Anglo-Scots heritage. While Western Europe was experiencing its prosperity over the hundreds of years since the renaissance, these brave warriors were holding the tides of steppe tribes at bay.
Very true. They have stayed in the land that our ancient ancestors lived in for thousand of years. They defeated and survived through many waves of foreign invasion...adapting to new military strategies over time to help defeat their enemies.
I believe this is largely due to geography. Western Europe was largely made up of woodlands and large forests, which made it impractical for light cavalry, while Eastern Europe was and is largely open fields and steppe land, and lightning fast light cavalry, or what we could call proto-hussars, always dominated warfare in the region.
@@zekun4741 yes, if we look back into our recorded history of the region we can go back as far as Roman historians who noted the Sarmatians were very good cavalry men.
In Finnish, the Christian God is frequently referred to as "Taivaan Isä" which means father of heaven or father in the heavens. As you may or may not already know, Finnish language and culture contain many ancient Germanic, Pre-Germanic and Proto-Indo-European words and elements, so this may be significant. This all said, I cannot say how old this custom of calling god the father of heaven is. It might not be connected to the Indo-European custom. Then again, in kalevalan folk poetry, one of the most common epithets of Ukko the Overgod is "Taatto taivahinen". Taatto is a very archaic word meaning father, and seems like it might be a loan from Proto-Germanic "attô". Taivahinen means "heavenly" or "sky-residing". The form of this word is archaic.
The slavic word for father is ''Tata'' so ''Taatto tivahinen'' would be ''Father God in the Sky''. Another thing of note is how the word for ''God'' and ''Giant'' are used interchangeably more often than not and Giants being part of the family for most of the Indo-European pantheons.
Interesting, I speak Kashmiri (a north Indian Dardic Language). We have a similar word 'Táavan' which is used as an indicative of bad omen or bad luck for/to parents. Weird!
@@whatsallthebrouhaha I suspect as much as well. That's why I had to look back to an earlier example in the kalevala-style poetry. Interesting. In Hungarian paganism (which is Tengriism) there is only one god, the Skygod, or Skyfather. His consort is Earthmother, their daughter is Tündér Ilona who is queen of fairies (tündér) and seems to be identical to Greek Helena Tunderos. Skyfather is the sun itself which travels through the sky at day on his horse pulled chariot. Pulling this chariot is heavy, so the horses sweat, this sweat falls down to Earth and creates morning dew. In mythology we have something similar to horse riding twin brothers. There were two brothers, Hunor and Magor who became the mythical archfathers of Huns and Magyars (Hungarians).

In Mahayana Buddhism, the mind is compared to the sky: infinite, clear, and indestructible; it cannot be pierced by the sword or burned by fire; although clouds come and go and its appearance changes, the true nature of sky is formless and immutable. For me these are pointers toward the metaphysical significance of the Sky-father. The hieros gamos represents the absolute impregnating the manifest universe, which, represented by earth, is full of concrete, particular, and impermanent forms in contrast to the empty and unified nature of sky. This relationship is also expressed in Samkhya, in which purusha, consciousness, is itself formless, but takes on the appearance of prakriti, nature, when it comes in contact with it, although purusha is really only the matrix in which prakriti enacts the interplay of the gunas, qualities. Just as the the Earth-mother is impregnated by the Sky-father, prakriti begins to move and change when it comes into contact with purusha, the way a flower moves to face the sun. As always, love the video. I'd be very interested to see you make one about the meaning of sacrifice. The wolf video you hinted at piqued my interest as well.
Buddhism comes from Persia, Persia from Mesopotamia and Mesopotamia from Sumer, who really gave birth to the whole world. Sumerian culture practically single handedly invented every building block to civilisation, the reason why Mesopotamia is called the "cradle of civilisation". This then gave birth to the Proto-Indo-European & Proto-Indo-Iranian languages/religions/philosophies which have spread out to the four corners of the earth. (This all aligns with the biblical history = Sumer being the beginning of the world, and then a separation from Babylon (Sumer). The Buddha is called "Shakyamuni" (Sage of the Shakyas), Śākya has the same origin as “Scythian”, called Sakas in India. Who were originally Iranian peoples that mainly settled in the Kingdom of Urartu (modern day Armenia/Iran (Aryans)) who spread across to Europe, Eurasian Steppe, Central Asia and Northern India (Nepal/Tibet). The ancient Armenians called themselves "Children of the sun". Ironically all Sakas (Shakyas) called themselves Ādicca nāma gottena "kinsmen of the sun" or "descendants of the sun". Coincidence? The Buddha states in the Sutta-Nipāta, "They are of the sun-lineage" (adiccagotta). Buddhism is merely philosophies taken from older traditions, and specially elements from Zoroastrianism (Persian/Iranian influence). Three Vajras ( "body, speech and mind") is from the Zoroastrian "Good thoughts, Good words and Good deeds" which is the core of Zoroastrian teachings called the "Threefold Path of Asha". Other teachings on duality and individual judgement mimic within Buddhism. "Haoma" is a divine plant in Zoroastrianism and in later Persian culture and mythology. Haoma has its origins in Indo-Iranian religion and is the cognate of Vedic soma. In Old Persian cuneiform it was known as 𐏃𐎢𐎶 hauma, as in the DNa inscription (c. 490 BC) which makes reference to "haoma-drinking Scythians" (Sakā haumavargā). There is also the Tibetan Buddhist sect called "Bon" who scholars have said the religion came from Persia. And most importantly the Vedic gods of Mitra, Varuna, Indra are written on Mitanni documents (Whos kingdom was in Iran/Armenia) and align with Zoroastrian gods (Mithra & Mitra etc). There are many things I could go into, but essentially Far Eastern religions and philosophies are born from Sumer, which the bible gave an accurate description in Genesis, and which the Book of revelation calls "Mystery, Babylon The Great, The Mother Of Harlots And Abominations Of The Earth." - Revelation 17:5. Meaning false teachings from across the earth came from an even more ancient false teaching that begun in Sumer (Babylon). The bible gives the true account on history which leads to many revelations. Jesus Christ being the greatest of all.

All polytheism is originated in Animistic shamanism.

The Cossack lifestyle was and is very Indo-European. It makes sense because they also traditionally lived in the Pontic-Caspian steppe.
I just realized how similiar the word ''Taivas'' is to word Dyeus, Tiwas, etc.
My mind just blew open.
The folk poetry has ancient origins, so there are decent odds that the calling of the overgod of the pagan religion as a sky father is an old tradition, independent of Christianity.
@@IfYouWantThenYouCanHaveIt Finnish "taivas" might be derived from Proto-Balto-Slavic "deiwas" or indeed from Indo-Aryan "daywas". The linguistic ancestors of both the Finns and the Indo-Aryan peoples used to inhabit the Eurasian steppes at the same time.
In either case, the word does go back all the way to Dyeus.

So thank you for backing up my intuition. QUESTION: could there be a relationship between this research and the most ancient temples such as Göbekli Tepe?
Thanks! no Göbekli Tepe was not made by Indo-Europeans
It was however made by their ancestors
@@jaydengoulding3948 Mostly not. At that time period afro-asiatic (afro-semitic) and indo-german (indo-european) cultures were already splitted.
But, indo-europeans conquered most territories from afro-asiatic people. Thats why even old indo-european religion has some defuse connections to other cultures. Way later, 500-300 BC greeks adapted many agypt myths, that's why christianity was so popular in that regions later on. Jesus is an incarnation of agypt god Horus, Maria is Isis and the christian God is a mix of Jahwe and Osiris. In that way, Christianity isn't a real abrahamic religion, it's more a modern form of antic polytheism, while not beeing a polytheism.

Another great video on a difficult topic. Another connection between the indo-european faiths is the idea that mountains are the home of the gods. This is very clear in Greek mythology with Mount Olympus but it is also present in the hindu faith such as Mount Meru and mount Kailash. Norse is a little different but Heimdallr is said to live upon Himinbjörg mountain and as a guardian figure between the world of the gods and the other realms it seems likely to me that mountains were viewed as boundaries between the realm of the skygods and the earth.
There is a Mount Meros in Greek mythology, which sounds a awful lot like Mount Meru. Meru became popular in the puranas, i.e., the later Hindu texts. There may have been an exchange between Greek and Hindu cultures.

Mahayana Buddhism is very polytheistic
It's from Hinduism only, Sky is consciousness, Earth is Energy
@@JesusSavesSouls lol no. Buddhism literally originated from Hinduism.
@@vivashvanbhushan3422 Hinduism, Buddhism comes from the same Proto-Indo-Iranian roots as Zoroastrianism. India's history started from the Indus Valley Civilisation that brought many of their teachings from Scythian and middle eastern/Iranian roots.

In our folktales Perun is the ancestor of Slavs, his wife is Ognjena the hearth fire goddess, Svarog is his father and his wives are the Sun goddess Slava and Dawn star goddess Danica (the later also plays her part as one of the three goddesses that weave fate).
Veles is viewed as a god of magic and trials, also as a brother of Perun.
Mokosh is rarely mentioned besides the creation story for where he messes up by stealing from his brother and accidentally creates monsters.
The only female goddess associated with the Earth is Morana who is mostly associated with burials and swamps instead of agriculture.
