  • A video I put together of response videos I have captured where the Fire Trucks, Police Cars, or Ambulances were using their Hi Lo siren. Unfortunately it is a pretty rare occurrence in my area so it is nice to hear it from time to time, Hopefully in the near future i'll b able to catch more units responding using the hi lo for a part 2! Hope you enjoy!
    Thank you very much for taking the time to watch my video and view my channel as every like, comment, subscription and view are greatly appreciated. The Clifton fire department could be considered conservative for front lighting compared to some insane departments... But still way too many at the rear, and a half-half lightbar pattern would be much more visible.
    The Osceola Country truck at 8:25 (and any European truck) is proof that you can get by with just a lightbar and some beacons at the rear :D

    • @EnjoyFirefighting
      @EnjoyFirefighting 4 года назад +1

      our modern apparatus here in Germany don't get through traffic any faster than the old ones with only 3 rotating halogen beacon lights; The new ones in my city have 6 LED lights, however many departments tend to a slightly larger number of lights including some intersection lights etc; However there are also European fire apparatus counting up to 60 lights as well

      @@finnk1289 unfortunately a recent trend is that apparatus manufacturers offer "design lights" which look cool but have no actual purpose, like emergency lights at the top edge at the side of the truck with greatly reduced intensity; Also the slicktop versions with emergency lights integrated in the cab roof aren't quite perfect, I'd rather prefer a proper lightbar instead

  • @davidfreeman3083
    @davidfreeman3083 5 лет назад +5

    Don't know y so many ppl triggered... I feel like using hi-lo alone at all times would be boring and ineffective, but if it's complimented as a secondary tone (like used with the Q on fire trucks and some ambulances) or an alternate tone it's gonna be nice, since it really grabs attention of everyone. And I feel like it's a lot more effective on larger vehicles like ambulances and fire trucks, than on smaller vehicles like police sedan and SUV cruisers.
    Of course it's really personal opinion about what tones you like or not, but dividing it as European/American is just... Hi-lo is famous from European use, but a lot of American manufacturers embed them into their products already. Some even are so iconic that you know that it's NOT anywhere near European (like the FS SmartSiren using a perfect musical third and one, which isn't used anywhere in Europe, not even in like France or Germany. The closest thing internationally I know are in Japan and China, mainly used for ambulances. Whelen used to have a major C-E which is a transpose of the SSP's iconic siren, but the latest version seems to use the minor key which made it more British). And mentioned in the additional info hi-lo is sometimes used in Asia too, and those used in Asia are closer than the American versions usually. However that being said, wail and yelp and even priority are the most common sirens, which are used (one or two or all three of them) much more commonly around the world as I know, like in Asia and middle east, and in a lot of European countries too. Probably Africa and Latin America too. So how can you call wail and yelp American? And from what I know it's not originated in the US either, except for the Q siren maybe. The only 'American sirens' so far are the Powercall, which actually sounded like the hi key in two tone plus a relaxed decrease in tones, the latter sounds like something known as the 'ultra-lo' siren, and the 'ultra hi-lo' that FS just released recently, which trembles both tones (like a two-tone priority/phraser/piercing/whatever you call that) started to be used by Boston. Neither of these sirens have been used widely except in certain parts of North America. So I think if you really want an 'American siren' these two are the ones you should look for.

    Allows authorized emergency vehicles to use a "Hi-Lo" warning sound. This distinctive sound, different than a siren, would be used to notify the public of an immediate need to evacuate an area in an emergency. The CHP is currently developing regulations to standardize the Hi-Lo warning sound statewide. Until the regulations are adopted, law enforcement agencies can use the Hi-Lo warning sound by obtaining a permit from the CHP. The law went into effect September 29, 2020.
