It's not that water gets behind there. It's the fact that old hoods in particular vinyl, PVC whatever you want to call it go dry, shrink and worse go porous. Then when wet sit against the body rotting them. Also is using incorrect fixings in those areas such as when the hood is changed the stainless steel fixings get lost and folks use things like oversize wood screws. A sure way of introducing rot. Another favourite is the rear cable channel and as the water gets in the actual top frame can rot also.

its around 1-1.5mm, comparable to the original. its from a gutter repair piece from the T2 resto video!
