@@GebahiArtworks Thank you for replying. Gebahi, can you share with me what brushes proved great performers using acrylic paint. Singer island is so amazing and has a special place in my heart.. looking forward to more vids from you. I like your landscapes and subject matter. I too am drawn to similar scenes. peace..
Hi Amit, the reason is both! I paint on smooth birch wood panels, and I use quality paints!. I prefer painting on wood because of the little details you can add. And paints glide very well, and I know just how much water I need to add to the paint to make it smooth!!
Charvin are decent, but my favorites are Golden heavy body, Matisse Structure, and a new one just came to me from a company, and will be discussed in a new video!! Stay tuned!
It was so helpful to watch how you blend the acrylic paint so beautifully. When you work on a larger canvas do you have to adapt in some way since the paint dries so quickly?
Thank you!! Good question, it’s a bit more involved, in this case, when working on a larger canvas, I use Golden Fluid acrylics. They spread easier and further, which makes it easier to blend as well. After the initial layer you can then use you heavy body acrylics for smaller and detailed areas of the painting!
I'm a new painter, but in the past had no problem getting my paints to glide and blend. But I've tried this 3 times and can not get the sky to look anything like what you did. I'm using Windsor & Newton galleria paint and even went and bought new brushes. it looks like you use hardly any paint and yet it covers. If I use enough paint to cover the canvas I don't get the depth and I have to use a lot more paint than you used. My canvas is a 10x10. Any suggestions what I might be doing wrong?
Hi T, what changed from before? Did you change paint brands to Winsor and Newton? The only thing I do is control the amount of water on my brush, which is all I use when painting, and I’ve used many different brands. Did you use gesso on the canvas because I don’t, unless I’m painting on birch wood panels and have to seal the board! I know that W&N Galleria isn’t really a heavy body acrylic, so it should glide on easily. So from what I can think of, it must be the amount of water ! I always swish my brush in water and and damp it before I start the painting. I don’t attack the painting with a dry brush m, and as the paint starts to drag or get tacky I dip my brush in water again to get it a little more damp before I lay the next strokes wether it’s the same color or not! What that does is keep the paint hydrated at all times. So it’s more of a water control seems like to me. I sometimes edit out the swishing of my brush in water to save time on the editing but I always keep my brush damp to help move the paint! Otherwise you can always use a retarder or flow improver. Plus as you can see, I paint pretty fast and blend fast. I think the combo of the two techniques I use gives the illusion of the paint just gliding on the surface! As you look at my other videos you’ll see that. I hope that helps, otherwise let me know and I’ll help you further! Thank you for your support!!
@@GebahiArtworks Thank you for your quick and thoughtful response. Maybe I should clarify when I say I'm a beginner. I went to a sip and paint class about a year ago. I brought my own inspiration image to paint and it turned out amazing. I now we were using acrylic paint on canvas, but not sure of the paint brand. I don't remember using water to apply the paint, but I do remember how easy it was to wrk with and how well it blended. I decided this was a craft I wanted to pursue, so I went and bought a bunch of supplies on a huge sale at Michaels. I guess because my first painting went so well I would just jump in with no skills other than I was a professional photographer for 25 years which helps in color, composition etc. I decided to jump in and tackle your beautiful painting for a friend's birthday present. So Duh, I wasn't using water in my brush LOL although my painting looks different from yours I am happy with how it is turning out since it' only my second painting. I obviously need to start with some basic training so I'm now watching a beginner class series on RUclips. Thank you for inspiring me with your art and your kind response & tips. God bless you! Tess
@@twoods3480 my pleasure, I’m glad you’re at least trying!! I think I know what they were using, I believe they craft paint, they are the only paint I can think of that can flow like that aside from fluid acrylics! But yes, a damp brush does wonders, and you can also buy a flow improved from Michael’s, as well as a retarder to give you more time to blend and mix!
This is absolutely gorgeous!! I'm so sad I didn't see this when it came out long ago!! But I'm now definitely diving into your channel! I'm just trying to teach myself these last several years when this old body allows...and these clouds/sky is gorgeous! I'm not sure my paint would stay upright light yours!! And I have NO idea how your paints stay so wet so long! Mine dry out so fast it can be very frustrating. May i also ask what type of board you're using that cleans seemingly easy? Thank you so much for all of this!!! Such wonderful inspiration!!
Thank you very much Jade, glad your painting!!! If you’re talking about what I paint on it was a birch wood panel that was gesso’ed! If you’re talking about the palette, I used a nonstick palette or you can buy a StayWet palette which will keep your acrylic wet longer! I used to use one by Masterson (great palette!) but now I know how to control the moisture levels so I don’t use one anymore!
@@GebahiArtworks wonderful! Thank you so much!! I've clearly not figured 9ut how to control moisture levels because mine dry out so darn fast that I lose a lot on my palette. Like everyone this year, no work makes more paint not an option so I hate losing it. So I'll figure it out :) Thank you for the tutorials and the help!!!!
Hi Lucy, both are true! I try to keep the painting under an hour for tutorials. But on my day to day paintings I do paint small because it’s affordable in todays market climate and easier to ship to clients! I do paint larger paintings as well but not as much. It’s rare that I’ll do a large painting in acrylics because of drying time, so I’ll do it in oil’s instead.

Thank you Mary!! I use canvases from my local store, Michael’s! I used Golden heavy body acrylics for that painting. Colors were: Cad yellow medium, alizarin crimson, ultramarine blue, burnt umber, and titanium white. You can do a painting similar to mine using the same techniques as long as it’s not exactly the same, and then you can sign it and sell, I don’t have a problem!
Looks good! Next time try painting inside your automobile, that way we can hear the traffic in the honking of the horns instead of the clanking of the dishes very distracting
Really enjoying your demos, in particular painting oil over acrylic, a bit of a game-changer for me! So thank you for your terrific videos! (My only small request would be to please reconsider your background music? it’s a bit distracting...)
@@GebahiArtworks Ah ok! I’ve just discovered you on YT and you have triggered some real breakthroughs for me - I was an oil snob up to this point, never liked the limitations of acrylics, but you’ve totally shown me how to get the best out of both... and also a great reminder of the beauty of a limited palette. So thanks again, I’ll be watching!
it would be much better for us viewers ,if we could see always the reference your using while you block in ,because it will make more senes to us ,why , and what color etc....
european royalty meaning when you put two colors next to each other other your eyes do the blending psychologically! If you were to look at this painting closely you would notice the edges are rough and not smoothly blended, but as you step back from the painting you get this impression that the colors were blended, when actually they were not! I just used slightly greyed down transition colors to give it that effect!

Thanks for your nice reply,...More birds, flowers, boats, trees , and sunsets.
So good!
Thank you very much for doing these
My pleasure!!
Truly enjoyed this. I wonder where you are located?
I am from the Philippines.
Southeast Florida!
So I'll figure it out :)
Thank you for the tutorials and the help!!!!
Like it so much! Thank you!
Thank you very much Lucy!!!
A flick of the brush, with the birds, and the painting is complete.
lol, just like that!!
Do you varnish with glossy or matte?
I use gloss varnish, the brand I like is Gamvar!
TY
Very nice. Why do you like to paint very small? Time limits? The drying nature of acrylics? This painting sets a nice mood.
Thank you so much for sharing
You are so welcome!!
Thank you
My pleasure!!!
what is the name of the music loved it
To be honest, I forgot, it was one that came with the iMovie app!
I do like the sky
Thank you!!!
Nice!...And Wow what type of acrylics do you use??.. You're paints never dry out!
I used Golden Heavy body acrylics!
Ok.. thanks!!!!
Mr Karim, can you tell me what size your panel is for this painting. Thank you!!
Hi Duane, it was an 8x8 birch wood panel!
Beste Grüße aus 🇦🇹👍👍👍
Danke!!!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experiences in art , I really like your techniques, I have som question . 1- what kind of canvas do you use ….. ? 2-Tamar could you present a list of materials …..? 3- If we fallow all the steps and apply All your suggestion , We would have a painting some what similar to the one in the lesson …4 Question .Can we sign our art and sell it ,,..? Thank for you time and your attention to my concerns. Thank your so much . 💌📮🍁
Thank you Mary!! I use canvases from my local store, Michael’s! I used Golden heavy body acrylics for that painting. Colors were:
Cad yellow medium, alizarin crimson, ultramarine blue, burnt umber, and titanium white.
Lol, will do! I moved to the garage now, all my setup is there, so there should be no more noises unless it’s raining and thundering.
Seeing the reference photo would have been helpful to fully understand the decisions made throughout. Beautiful painting though.
Thank you Sharon, this was an older video, when I first started! Sorry about that!
Where can we get the reference photo from
Painterly Brushes this was from imagination!
@@GebahiArtworks great imagination 🤗😜😂👍👍
Good
Thank you!!
I like use of limited pallets
Thank you Kishor, it helps with color harmony throughout the painting!!
Really enjoying your demos, in particular painting oil over acrylic, a bit of a game-changer for me! So thank you for your terrific videos! (My only small request would be to please reconsider your background music? it’s a bit distracting...)
Thank you very much Jennifer!! I did stop with background music on my newer vids.glad you liked the video!!
C'est tellement beau avec une palette si restreinte! La musique par contre gâche un peu ce bon moment. Merci. Je m'abonne.
Merci beaucoup, excuse-moi pour la musique!!
it would be much better for us viewers ,if we could see always the reference your using while you block in ,because it will make more senes to us ,why , and what color etc....
Thank you Stephen, all your request have been answered on my newer videos!
Trop fort
Merci beaucoup Isabelle!!!
Very helpful and also beautiful ... thank you. But please turn the volume of the music down or don't use it at all ...
Thank you! I’ve stopped using background music on all my recent videos!
👍
It would have been helpful to have seen your reference photo, to follow what you were trying to achieve.
A lot of the scene was made up! But I do put up reference photos on my newer videos.
I just noticed that your last name is Karin, my maiden name is Karam. Wondering if you are a fellow Lebanese, besides being a great artist
My last name is Gebahi, first name Karim, and yes I’m Lebanese, Lol ! Thank you for the compliment!
Optical blending?
european royalty yes, pretty much!!
@@GebahiArtworks I paint myself but I never heard of optical blending.curious what it means
european royalty meaning when you put two colors next to each other other your eyes do the blending psychologically! If you were to look at this painting closely you would notice the edges are rough and not smoothly blended, but as you step back from the painting you get this impression that the colors were blended, when actually they were not! I just used slightly greyed down transition colors to give it that effect!
@@GebahiArtworks cool.makes sense.thanks
Great painting, skip the music maybe.
Thank you!! I skipped the music on all my newer videos!
This is a wonderfully helpful & enlightening video, thank you! Could you please just cut out the music, it spoils the experience...sorry!!
Thank you Beverley!!!
I’ll put something softer, Easy on the ears!

@@timennis3456 ..Good comment. I meant the same thing. Best regards.
@@timennis3456 But these videos are for the public to enjoy. I would want to know if there was anything I should change about the videos I post. I wouldn't change anything for just one or two viewers. But I would if it were the majority of comments. Although I'm fine with music during art videos.
I appreciate your style and your teaching. However, I hate the background music! I feel like I am on hold with my insurance agent.
Lol, sorry about that, my newer videos don’t have music running in the background!
I love your videos and you commentary but .... please change the music!
Thank you!! I’ll go to RUclips and see what I can do in editor and pick a new song!
That’d be great. It just gets a little tedious after a while.
