In this painting tutorial we have a look at how to paint a modern atmospheric landscape with a misty, moody sky. Sometimes landscapes like these are called tonal landscapes or ambient landscapes.
You will see me use acrylic paint as well as watersoluble cryons sometimes called watermedia.
I made this timelapse video simply because there are so many layers of paint and drying time in between.
The paper I use in the video is 160lb/200gram acid free sketchbook paper. But watercolor paper should work as well.

Some people might feel a gray day is boring or not pretty at all but I want to show everyone just how beautiful a "gray day" landscape can be!
I like to use a lot of beautiful muted and neutral colors to create a sense of moisture and mist in the air. If you would like to paint your own landscape with fog or an ethereal feel you should give this tutorial a go.

Subtly beautiful with lost and found edges which give it a dream-like feel. I mainly work in watercolour but also some mixed media, gouache, and crayons, abstract landscapes are just so enigmatic, beautiful work.

I like some detail in my work, but I also really like using the techniques I learned on your online course as well. I love your channel as well, and Im indebted to you for helping me move forward with my own art. The music and your calm soothing voice in this video are really relaxing, sometimes I watch your videos before a painting session just to help me relax and be looser, so thank you Marie Louise for your you tube channel. The layering process is most interesting and is surely an excellent way to seek out one's inner creativity that 'reality', or one's perception of reality, often obscures. Knowing when to stop must be the most difficult part! Excellent.
