Hello🥰 Another great lesson, as always! I agree with SO many of these comments as I have similar issues like... hard to know how much to simplify, or, which things to even pick to focus on, because I love lots of things in the photo I took, that's why I took it!😖😬🤣 ... also, knowing when to stop😢 I've messed up things I liked ok, by that last minute "hmmm, ok, just one more thing...just gotta adjust this one little thing I swear!!" I say this to my husband VERY often because I'll show him something and he'll say its good and I say I'm done, good enough at least... I have an extremely hard time thinking any of my art is good in any way... I see each thing I missed, each "wrong" stroke that wasn't meant to be or should have been...everything really... I think a lot feel this way. I just have a hard time being nice to myself about myself across the board, so, this is no different... but, art has truly helped me keep my head above water, mentally, so, I'm trying to find where I feel it's good enough and then setting it aside for a few hours, days or however long... to see it with fresh eyes later, to see if those bits really stand out and need a bit of fixing and how to best do that, or, if its ok. Because, when I push n push, "fixing" here n there on my first go, it inevitably snowballs into bigger issues, because then some of the 'fix' will not be exactly what I wanted... or I freak out about the colors not being the same enough and since I'm frustrated, I'm not remembering colors change when dry, etc... 🙄 I also love your reminder of the fact that my first attempt, or layer, doesn't have to have everything perfectly done right then or else I've failed! I didn't say that well at all, as opposed to the great way you said it. I'm having a very painful day so my brain is foggy and blah, sorry😳🤦🏻♀️ Anyway... I definitely do that as well... I'll go into it think "loose... thin layers.... don't overthink it" but.... the ocd, overthinking over-explainer me is soon trying to do everything with too much detail too soon and then, even if its fine, its not what I wanted. So... I just keep practicing. That's why a big notebook of watercolor paper is so awesome! I don't buy an expensive brand or anything, just some decent weight watercolor or multi media paper so that I'm not blowing through canvases. Even though I know I can paint over the canvases, I don't want to be constantly painting over the few I do have. So, paper and tape to the rescue! It definitely let's me relax and just try things out, without a "must fully finish painting" feeling.... ok ok, yes, my ocd does still scream at me, even with paper... But, it's a bit easier to tell that voice "shut up! It'll be FINE!" ... or something of that nature 😊😬😂 And I LOVE taking the tape off! Well, once I used the little hair dryer I keep at my art(dining😊) table, to warm the tape some so that I wasn't ripping off bits of paper😊 And I'm still always amazed at the transformation that happens when its removed! It goes from 😔 to 🙂 in that moment. Although I sometimes lose track of the tape and only realize that as I remove it and the small little rock (which I'm awful at btw) or whatever, has been pulled off🤦🏻♀️ but, I can always add one or just go with it. But that clean white edge..... oh man I love that :)😂 Oy! As you can see, my extreme case of 'overthinking over-explainer diesease' got the better of me here, as often happens 🙄 and now this comment, that I thought would be quick, is most definitely not😳🤷🏻♀️ so sorry😬 Ok... well, I hope you you're doing well my friend!!! As always, I look forward to our much hoped for, even if unlikely anytime soon, especially now with my health/$ setbacks, to put it lightly .. but, our day of relaxing, drinking tea and talking all things art and everything else :) One day.... one day!!!❤ Thank you again for another awesome video!!🥰

As a newbie to a more abstract style of landscape painting, I found this very helpful. And the results are lovely!

Since then I've always asked myself what I want to express. Where does the concentration go? Using only a limited color palette also helps a lot. I wonder how you adapt to the yellow tape or how it might inspire influence the process. Reminds me of how I like to play improvised music while having radio-noice on in the background. I think the yellow tape would give me energy while painting. and indirectly help me to apreciate duller nuances.

Hi Marie Louise. Why not mix your own black? Some artists don't recommend using it. I have trouble selecting a subject with good composition to paint....reference photos.
