- Four college instructors from Iowa are recovering after they were injured during a brazen stabbing attack in China. The group was on a teaching trip and visiting a public park when the assault happened in broad daylight. NBC’s Janis Mackey Frayer reports for TODAY.

This is terrible… today I saw another news that there was a knife attack on Japanese residents in China. A mother and her preteen child who were waiting for a bus to a Japanese school in China. Then a Chinese guy suddenly attacked them with a knife and tried to go inside a school bus. There was a heroic Chinese woman who tried to stop him, but she was also attacked. The mother is okay, and her son is recovering at a hospital. The Chinese woman is in a grave condition at a hospital. I hope she will be okay.

A Chinese man collided with an American man and had an argument, but neither side understood what the other was saying. The Chinese man stabbed the American man with a knife, and then three other Americans and one Chinese man stepped forward to stop him, but were also stabbed!
According to Chinese law, the four people who were stabbed are not in danger of their lives. This perpetrator is guilty of intentional injury and will be sentenced to 1-3 years in prison!
Tip: Impulse is the devil!
One to three years for stabbing in China is crazy. You can get a year or two for normal fighting whilst at the wrong place. This guy is getting 7 to 10 years minimum cause of the attention this one got. Chinese government is crazy about its image.
The suspicious part of this story is that the attacker carried a knife with him when this incident happened. Nobody in China would carry any weapon on the street normally.

It’s felt like that in America for the past few years now too, for the Asian people. We’ve had manyfold increases in reported crimes against us, and the media only mentions a blip before going back to the regular programs. Doesn’t feel like a great time to be in the US either, but people manage I guess.

As an American, I've travelled to Russia, Iran and China. All of the "Big 3".
Iran is by far the nicest of those 3.
When I went for a medical conference, the people were so incredibly nice.
Usually the people of each country are very nice but it's the government of those countries that ruin it.

A super rare incident, possibly some misunderstanding exacerbated by language barriers. One such miserable event is statistically irrelevant with their population of 1.4 million. Anybody can say there's absolutely no stabbing incidents in Switzerland or Singapore ?
At the same time, the government there is known not to sensationalised unfortunate events & would try to cool things down as much as possible. The opposite for us where it'll explode out of recognition !

He had to call the authorities and police himself. In the full clip the professor/tutor is surrounded by a crowd of people after the attack and no one helps him. All the Chinese at the scene didn’t even talk to them they just stood and watched.

quite shocked! coz this thing never happened before, not even the victims are from the famous university. One reason I can think of is in Jilin the local people may be a little outgoing and bad-tempered because of the folk custom. Even for me, I was afraid to visit the tourist attractions alone.
