    I was born and raised in the American Deep South and Canadian accents are pretty cool to me for some reason. An example is the pronunciation difference (American South vs Canadian) of the words “about” or “out.” It’s weird I know but at least it’s a positive comment I guess. Love this channel.

    I know this is an old thread but thought I would ask. Does the cummins manual not state to install the crank seal housing first, then the seal with the alignment tool, then tap to appropriate depth with the install tool, then bolt down? I haven't seen anyone do it like that manual states. Or am I reading the manual incorrectly? Thanks

    thanks for the video it was extremely helpful for me to do this myself, I just completed my replacement of the rear main on my 2006 5.9, it had backed out of the housing about 1/4 inch (similar to whats shown at 5:15) and it was the metal o-ring. The replacement was covered in rubber with about 4-5 ribs on it (which i had to get from a dealer, the aftermarket one was metal too). Could the seal back out due to a crank case vent clog/bad filter etc? the 06/07 breathers are integrated in the valve cover unfortunately and I haven't open'ed er up to look. Should i bother? It was a long and tedious job and I don't want to do it again. Spent more than half of that time just cleaning everything up.

    • @JeffinTD
      @JeffinTD 2 года назад

      Not an expert, but I would think something would be major wrong for too much crankcase pressure to push out the seal. I think I’d cold start the engine and see if you can detect some fumes from the breather tube (to determine the breather is not obstructed). Maybe loosen the oil cap when the engine is running fully warm and leave the cap over the hole. If fumes lift the cap, then you may have something like broken rings causing very high blow by and crankcase pressure.

    • @DEBOSSGARAGE
      @DEBOSSGARAGE  7 лет назад +26

      By the hour. I completed a 9000 hour apprenticeship with 6 months of post secondary schooling at another heavy equipment shop. A couple years after I got my ticket, I quit and started a construction company because I wanted to build my own house and shop. I swung a hammer in the summer and turned wrenches in the winter, mostly for the same customers. I bought my service truck the same year I built our house. I started getting to busy though so I dropped the construction. I'm busy enough in the shop now that I sold the service truck. That wasn't a tough decision as most calls were after hours and took me away from my family. I stuck with mechanics because I find it more challenging mentally and less challenging physically.
