I really enjoyed your Sumatran series thanks for bring back fond memories of my years living there. Lake Toba is certainly a gem of a spot rich in culture as you said. Looking forward to returning very soon. Safe travels and horas !
I love your videos, Jason! You always take us to beautiful, unique places and this one in particular looks so chill and peaceful compared to others you've visited before. It also helps that you are incredibly good-looking and you seem like you are a gentleman. The whole package 😍
Thank you Jason for this wonderful video of Lake Toba. It has been on my bucket list for fifty years ever since I travelled overland (back in the days when you could) in 1975. I was told then about Lake Toba and an island in the middle of the lake. Back then I did not know about geology but for many years I have developed that interest as well which in addition to history adds immensely to the overall appreciation of travel which one day (when you get to my age haha) you will greatly appreciate. There is a fantastic book published in the UK called EARTH put out by Dorling Kindersley. It is amazing, well worth looking it up when you return to the UK.
That was a fantastic vlog Jason, love how how you do this history of the area, I found it so informative and it is such a beautiful and calm place, definitely will have to visit one day.
yes you're right jason , travelling in indonesia is just like travelling to hundreds countries , but fortunately u r still in one country . indonesia is a massive country the distance from western part of indonesia to eastern part of indonesia equal to england to iran or lisbon to new york city . has 1340 ethnic groups with 700+ languages , with totally different culture, cuisine, architecture, religion and etc. UNITY In Diversity
Thanks again for a great video. You amaze me with your energy to keep going. Thanks for showing us the unusual Christian population. This had to have an influence over the cannibalism history and is most likely the reason it ended. If you want to visit another beautiful area, look at Vanuatu. Active volcano and a cannabalistic history. I have friends there.
Fascinating video Jason! What visa would you recommend for someone interested in spending time in Indonesia (for travel). The 30 days on arrival seems pretty short and impractical compared to the size of the country
Thank you for the video. Currently, not many people visit because there are no direct international flights to the nearest airport to Lake Toba (Silangit Airport). I hope more tourists will visit and enjoy the natural beauty of north sumatra

Traditional Batak art is very nice. I have a carved wood stopper to a shaman's medicine container made by Bataks. It is really lovely. Didn't know that they were cannibals in the past.
Some people say that it was just a way to scare those who wanted to invade or colonize the area, cannibalism was an issue created by foreign explorers at that time
No way! I was researching while staying in Lake Toba. Watching the video from exactly the same room as you were staying in at Toba Sunset, that's a hilarious coincidence!
Haven’t been back to Toba since 2009. Nice to see that the island seens to have developed without losing it’s charm. It’s true that footpaths or decent ones are not always a thing in Indonesian cities and something that really should be sorted out. There’s stuff to see in Sumatra alright.. but it’s huge and still a bit difficult / time consuming to get places.
Another brilliant episode. However are you using a new go pro or similar? Many of the panning shots in this particular episode appear to be very fast, and dizzying.
Next, if you have time, travel again to Sumatra to explore other tourist attractions in Sumatra such as the Riau Islands, West Sumatra, Jambi, Bengkulu and Bangka Belitung.
Dear Jason, I love this descent, peaceful nature in North Sumatera. ❤Thanks so much for sharing thislovely travel vlog, Gentleman! Please visit also Banda Island , Kei Island & Ternate Tidore islands in Maluku (Eastern Indonesia). White sands&blue water of the beaches there , are so beautiful ❤ It seems to me, the Batak museum in this video , is not as "horror" /"frightening" , as the former colonial building of "Lawang Sewu" ("One thousand doors") in Semarang City (Central Java) in the middle of the night 😅 Hahaha... Sorry just kidding 😅 Superstitious thinking is still widely alive in many villages in this country, I guess 😊😮😅 Thank you very much to Jason for visiting Indonesia. Take care in this rain season & have a great day. Best regards from Java island, Indonesia ❤
@@JasonBillamTravel Thank you, Jason.🙏 Indonesia consists of 39 provinces. Generally every province in this tropical country is "unique" (different). You can go there by plane to Kualanamu, Medan city, indonesia
And than from Medan by taxi to parapat, lake toba. It cost +/- $20

Thank you so much.

So beautiful.i wish i could be there.

Hi there, do you know if Jason was during the monsoon season in Sumatra?
Very peaceful place
I stayed on Samosir island in 1988 with my kiwi gf. It’s changed quite a bit. Wanna go back.
I’m sure it has - Tuktuk still feels laid back. One of the my favourite spots in Sumatra.
