Medan is my hometown, thank you for having such a generous opinion about it. But Medan is no longer a safe city now, so be careful with your belongings. Indonesian food is very delicious, its natural views are breathtaking, its people welcoming, but it is because there were not many Western Country foreigners to ever visit this place. Originally, Indonesia is a warm and friendly country, but it bears many signs of radicalism nowadays, especially regarding religious sentiment, which is a reason I would kindly ask you to consider before visiting this kind of country in the future. I honestly was apprehensive about your safety. You may want to experience some thrilling adventure, but there are many more safer places around the world to visit. Hope you have a safe and pleasant trip wherever you are going. 🙂
Next exploring to see orang utan in bukit Lawang north Sumatra, lake Toba Samosir north Sumatra, Sabang in Aceh, batam, Gili Trawangan Lombok, and labuan bajo 🏝️ komodo dragon island in Flores INDONESIAN ❤️❤️🇮🇩
The people are very friendly without wanting to sell anything to you - that's cool. The bits of the city you showed us is pretty clean. All I have ever heard about Medan is that it gets rocked by earth tremors.
So nice to see you in Medan a city I have lived in pre tsunami. The Tip Top was my fave resto with it's old charm as you mentioned. There used to be a night market on that street too. I lived in Banda Aceh the Grand Mosque is better there, so you will enjoy it. Make sure you go the beach area of Lhok Nga and visit Joels Bungalows on a fantastic beach. Joel used to live in Italy and speaks perfect English. Lake Toba is cool and so is Bukit Lawang for the orangutangs. If you want to go somewhere remote try Simeulue Island (where I built the first beach resort), Banyak Islands, Nias and the Mentawai Islands. Most tourists are surfers as Sumatra has the best surfing spots in the world. Salamat Jalan

Hi Jason, could you please recommend where in Sumatra is the best for holiday with kids? Thank you so much and thank you for all your videos. All of them are absolutely amazing 😻
Sumatra is quite off the beaten path but if they are adventurous, then I think both Lake Toba and possibly a Bukit Lawang day trip into the rainforest could be a good choice.
Medan is kinda 'undervalued' and 'overlooked' by current stream of tourism but I can't blamed tourism industries bc gov has not 'push' it in a big way like in #Penang or #Thailand #POV
Have you considered visiting the Andaman and Nicobar Islands as your next destination? Not sure whether there are any boats or flights available from Bandar Aceh for travel to Andaman Islands however!
At the end you described Aceh as a place where Shariah Law still exists. I'm not sure if you are aware of this or not, but Aceh has only had Shariah Law for about 20 years. The way that you phrased it sounds a little strange because nowhere else in the country had it in the past.
hi Jason. you are a world traveller i really appreciate that. i don't have that much money for treveling. can i know how you do it. . i mean finances are important.
lots of Indian influence can be found in Indonesia even today. The name Indonesia means "Indian islands". picture of Lord Ganesha, one of the most popular deity in India was inscribed on the 20,000 rupiah note of Indonesia. Indian currency also called Rupiah in Hindi. Indonesian Airlines is called Garuda which is an Indian deity. lots of ancient Hindu and Buddhist temples getting unearthed in Indonesia. Bali is an Indian name. Bali has 87% Hindu population. In past whole Indonesia was Hindu but now Hindus are left in Bali only.
Minute 11:18 Just missed a rather large (Buddhist?) temple there. Curious what it is. Also, I heard there is a catholic church in Medan with unique & stunning architecture, that looks like a combination of a church, a temple & a mosque.
How fascinating to see Medan and I'm looking forward to Toba. Please, please be super eco-conscious with the orangutan tour. Some operators exploit them to make money from tourists. So much better watching these more unusual places. Ad you know, there are 1000s of Bali videos. I've never been to Sumatra but plan to. Try Nias Island...a super well known, but remote, surfing paradise.

So, if you have time, please continue your journey to the West Sumatera. Anyway, despite the grand mosque you saw and the Moslem girls you met, North Sumatera is actually home to many Christians. You missed a historical building in Kesawan. The office of London Sumatera plc.
Inside there's an elevator which was built in 1910 and still functioning today.
You can go inside the building & take a ride in the elevator. It's free.
Looking forward to more destinations which are lesser known! :)
Lots coming on this trip!
In Sumatra, go to Padang City and Bandar Lampung City,. Lot of beaches and islands there mainly in Krui
Bons travaux. Bravo mon ami ~ !
My hometown ❤❤❤
I would like to go to the country side outside of Medan. Can you suggest areas to go and how to get there? Thank you 🙏🏼
I'm going to Medan in just two weeks. Planning to also visit Brestagi. If anyone has tips please let me know. I'm still looking for hotels.
just stay at grand mutiara, it's pretty modest there.
Very nice video Jason.
Glad to know!
Please go to BUKIT LAWANG at north sumatras..
LOVE FROM china Muslim,i wish i can vist and invest Medan future!
The people are very friendly without wanting to sell anything to you - that's cool.
The bits of the city you showed us is pretty clean.
All I have ever heard about Medan is that it gets rocked by earth tremors.
Very much so! I didn’t experience any tremors whilst there.
@@JasonBillamTravel Thanks Jason.
Medan belom pernah ada gempa bumi. Mungkin maksudnya di kota padang yang pernah ada gempa bumi cukup dahsyat.
The old buildings in Medan were constructed by the Dutch when they ruled over Indonesia until 1949.
Fantastic recommendations - thank you. Seems like you know the place very well so I will trust these pointers!

Kota kelahiranku ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I would like to go to the countryside of Medan. How to get there and what are the areas? Are there smaller cities? Thank you 🙏🏼
I had been there in 2016, I think it will be much much different now.
My advice: Get out of Medan ASAP and get into the countryside. Not because Medan is bad, but because the countryside in that area is awesome.
How to get to countryside and where should I go to get to the countryside? Is there a city? Thank you. I want to go to the country side 🙏🏼
Thanks again John in Chicago
Bro be careful when you traveling in Medan, bcoz this city is known as Gotham city of Indonesia 😅
yaelahhhh.. komentar kayak gitu sich gak mempan bagi org bule 🤣🤣🤣
Medan is kinda 'undervalued' and 'overlooked' by current stream of tourism but I can't blamed tourism industries bc gov has not 'push' it in a big way like in #Penang or #Thailand #POV
You must visit belitung islands, batam islands, tana toraja
Have you considered visiting the Andaman and Nicobar Islands as your next destination? Not sure whether there are any boats or flights available from Bandar Aceh for travel to Andaman Islands however!
next trip: sentinel island.
Nope. They might look close on a map, but there is way to get there directly from Indonesia.
At the end you described Aceh as a place where Shariah Law still exists. I'm not sure if you are aware of this or not, but Aceh has only had Shariah Law for about 20 years. The way that you phrased it sounds a little strange because nowhere else in the country had it in the past.
I don't think it needs sharia law anymore.
There's no more crusaders.
What is good area to stay in Medan to meet more locals? To make friends? Thank you 🙏🏼
Jason, are you planning any tours next year?
Min 4:30 you passed the Best Soto in Medan and min 4:37 you passed the Best Nasi Padang in Medan
Saya menunggu vidio anda di banda aceh .. kota teraman di indonesia .. kasus kriminal sangat kecil di aceh.
Welcome
Jason 👍
Horas, welcome to Medan
Jason, it seems like you were wearing a thick shirt. Isn’t the weather super hot and humid?
I could suggest you somewhere to visit in Sumatra and Java, also Indonesia
hi Jason. you are a world traveller i really appreciate that. i don't have that much money for treveling. can i know how you do it. . i mean finances are important.
lots of Indian influence can be found in Indonesia even today.
But Indonesia is clean, safe, organise, peacefull, respectfull with friendly people.
There is an Indian ethnic minority in some Indonesian cities outside of Bali. I believe Medan has one of the largest and the majority are Hindhus.
@@AliMahamatHissein-e4b
oh yeah clean😒
India terlalu kotor banyak sampah bau & tingginya kasus pemerkosaan terhadap perempuan mengerikan , Indonesia jauh lebih bersih teratur & modern .
❤
Minute 11:18 Just missed a rather large (Buddhist?) temple there. Curious what it is. Also, I heard there is a catholic church in Medan with unique & stunning architecture, that looks like a combination of a church, a temple & a mosque.
maps.app.goo.gl/PzfepArpoRp7NDtP7
The church (the one that looks like a Hindhu temple) is called Graha Bunda Maria Annai Velangkanni.
Yes, I’m looking to do it with the most eco friendly people I can find. Nias island sounds interesting.

Hi Wellcome To My City in MEDAN , enjoy you next trip in Aceh , i'm the people Beside You when you trip with Putra pelangi BUS.🎉😂
Hahaha thank you!
Can you suggest area in the country side out of Medan to visit? How to get there and what are the cities? Thank you
Welcomed by a bunch of kids saying "Hi, guys" at the opening was .... something else. 😅
PLEASE DON'T SKIP LAKE TOBA while you're in North Sumatera. You'll be amazed! North Sumatera, Aceh, and West Sumatera are rich in nature and culture. They're heavens of Sumatera. So, if you have time, please continue your journey to the West Sumatera.
Anyway, despite the grand mosque you saw and the Moslem girls you met, North Sumatera is actually home to many Christians. Most Bataknese are Christians, but yes there is Moslem Bataknese and Karo. North Sumatera is one of few provinces in Indonesia where pork are widely spread and served.
What about rest of Sumatra?
