I purchased the plans for the original spiral tree when they first came out. That first year i had to turn people away because i couldnt keep up with orders. This year, I premade 5 over the summer, sold them all the in the first couple of days after posting them. Ill have to add this style for next year!
@RiverHayes so the first year I started out at $60, except 2 that customers wanted stained green. That's a pain, I charged 100 for those. This year I charge $75. Could probably have charged more
So simple but it looks so complicated. That's the beauty of knowing what you're doing. This is a great project for honing your rabbeting skills. A skill that applies to so many other aspects of woodworking.
Wowza! Looks like it's time to add a table saw to my arsenal. This is amazing. It feels like one of those projects that, if you can push through, it can really boost the creative and technical knowledge. I think that's what is so helpful about your content. It's simple but you really expand on what our tools can do. Springboard content! Gets the creative juices going. Thank you for sharing!
So after 3 different tries I was able to make one! I did find that I had to increase the thickness of the strips from his recommended 1/2 inch to more of a 5/8ths inch. I don't know, at the 1/2 inch mark I found that it didn't leave much room for drilling the holes in the center once the wood strips were mated. I am still trying to find a way to help with the blowout that keeps happening with the center holes. Once that is fixed I'll feel better about my outcome I think. Thank you Matt for the instructions and honestly the idea! I'm going to purchase the plans just for a thanks at this point.
I made five of the smaller original spiral trees and one 7 foot tree. Took me two years to sell all five of the smaller ones and I ended up breaking down the 7 foot one and making other things with the wood. People kept thinking they were those spinning things that you hang from your porch or a marble run.
Real great video. I always liked the look of spiral trees but your change has really taken it to a whole new level. The tree turned out great. I can see you carrying this modification to making a really unique wind spinner as well so you can keep the idea going all year round. Have a great holiday season and thanks for sharing!
I have been watching each of your videos catching the tips and tricks. Unfortunately it’s not in my budget to purchase the major tools I’ll need to get started yet. But hopefully at the beginning of the year it might change. Can’t wait to get started
Really like this design!! I've been looking for a new style to add to my collection of custom trees for my Christmas 'forest.' This is it! I may use the cut-off as well for a different type. 🤔
I think using a guide and circular saw, or a tracksaw if you have one, would be perfect for cutting the two large triangles from the boards - save all the time and effort of doing batches at mitersaw. Excellent video as usual!
I'm working on a pack away version of the 7-foot tree to make it easier to store. I'm looking forward to getting it worked out! I'm planning on pre-making some so they are ready to go.
Excellent im going to give thia a try. Bit confused how the individual pieces stay in place, do they not need to be glued in position or do they all just hopd eachother in place once the top piece is on?
Wondering what it would look like if each layer was at 22.5 degrees or even 10 degrees. Would it still look spiraled or look more random. If more random, then painting the ends of the boards different colors or white would mimic lights.
holy smokes I have been lamenting the fact that I don't have enough tools and I just realized I have no idea if I have a depth stop on my miter saw LOL. The possibility is exciting. I would have so many more options. I will have to check. I really need some jigs and to figure out how to use the router I have. I have one bit and have only used it once. Love your channel. Subscribing!!
Great build. Thanks for sharing. Did you treat the tree with something? The tree on the picture at the end has a slightly nother colour and black tips (at least so I see it on my screen, it might be an optical illusion as well )
I've been making fan trellises from one of your old videos (already have the jig built so why not) and turning them upside down, trimming it flat, and adding a base and a star. Way faster. Way taller. And I can't keep up with the market. 🎅
Mat if I send you a shop drawing of a small, but unbelievable , project I want to make. You will love this, I haven't seen anything like it. Could you make a set of plans PLEASE. You keep idea and you will probably want to build.
Hey Mat I an't crazy, will I am but I get a check for that. Please send me a email add I send you a simple .you don t like It , just toss it. then I will have to destroy lot of fence pickets and pull countless air staples and glue out of my fingers.
You don't need a sliding miter to make these. You could use several things to make the groves. Sliding miter, table saw, router, circular saw, heck, even a hand saw. Kinda nice to have a table saw for cutting the strips, but you could use a bandsaw or with a straight edge, even a circular saw (be quite a bit slower to do well). If you just wanted to make one, you could make the whole thing with a handsaw and some chisels. But it'd take a long time.
Hi Matthew, I hope you don't mind me asking, but at 12 mins 39 seconds, the mechanical pencil you have tucked in your cap, what make is it and where can I purchase one from? I would like to get one for my hubby and he said that's the one he would like. I'm from the UK. Thanks 👍 😊
@MatthewPeechWoodworking I'm afraid with the old tools I have, it could be difficult. Might just wait until I can afford a couple of newer, better ones. Lol
I think if you clamp your tree branch blocks together and two base blocks together, then use a 1/2” router bit to make your half laps, it will eliminate using the miter saw making several cuts to make the half laps. I did this when I made my sister’s arbor in her backyard. It saved me a lot of grief placing the top boards on the headers. I only grooved the top boards to lock on with the lower header boards and ran a screw through the top attaching to the header, perfect spacing. Hope this helps. ✅✅✅ I love the tree 👍👍👍👍

Yes! I think it will be a great addition.
How much were you able to sell them for?

@@mdubz727 that's really awesome. Thanks for the reply. Cheers
@@RiverHayes you're welcome
You are a very creative, talented teacher. You stay on point and keep your videos to a degree of limited time. Great stuff, Matt!
So simple but it looks so complicated. That's the beauty of knowing what you're doing.
This is a great project for honing your rabbeting skills. A skill that applies to so many other aspects of woodworking.
Yes, I encourage everyone to give it a try and grow your skills and you’ll see it’s not as complicated as it may look.

Over the Top Build Brother. This is amazing. Nothing helps get me into the Christmas Spirit like building Christmas decor.
Nice twist. So many projects, such little time. Thanks Matt.
I feel ya, thanks for watching

Love your videos. Keep up the great work.
A great build. I also like your instructions on how to make the build. They are really easy to comprehend.
Well thank you!
Absolutely Beautiful, can't wait to get started.
Wow, such a creative idea. Really enjoy seeing the ideas you come up with and the ways you challenge us to improve on our skills
Thank you. Keep at it!

Sweet build Matthew! It was already a great build, but this took it to another level.
I appreciate it!

Brilliant idea, I haven't seen it before 👍👍👍👍😊
Give it a try!
Nice project, I personally am making the single spiral.
It’s a good one!
Love your creativity

Awesome job Matt. Very excited to try this out and make some learning mistakes along the way haha
Happens to us all lol. Best of luck

Your Fantastic, thank you
Your big wood blocks were a hit last year!!
Glad you like them!
Good morning 🌅, very nice project, 🌲🎄,
Thank you
Good morning
Love your tree

Thanks again!

@MatthewPeechWoodworking It will be a while, but I'll let you know.
Well this tree was a hit and true you did put a new "twist" on it. Well done, I'm trying to follow your examples but its not easy.
😂. You can do it
Mathew another beauty. Thank you
Thanks for watching
Great video as always Matt!
I appreciate it!
Great information ,it looks great.
Glad you think so!
I'm also curious on the finish you used.
I love this!!
Thanks!
Great job as always.
Thank you
I love This one
Thanks!
Awesome design!!❤️it
Thank you
I would use the drill press for the holes😊
Great idea
This is soooo cool ❤

Give it a try and see how it goes! Trial and error.
Would resawing the 2x6 before cutting it into strips be faster?

The possibilities are endless
Good stuff, thanks.
Thank you
Pretty cool!
Thank you
What did you do for finish? Looks like some stain on the base and end grain? Clear coat?
Awesome stuff as usual
Much appreciated
Great build. Thanks for sharing. Did you treat the tree with something? The tree on the picture at the end has a slightly nother colour and black tips (at least so I see it on my screen, it might be an optical illusion as well )
Any idea what something like this would sell for on average?
Did you fix the different levels or do they rotate ? Another twist might be to turn one every so often and you can hang ornaments from it.
Is there a pattern for spiral tree
Is it ok if I used a dado on my table saw to make the 1/2 inch grooves?
Yes
Love the tree!! Maybe I missed it, but what keeps the spiral in place and fixed? (Maybe nothing?)
Clamping pressure from the thread rod and nut. Or the tightness of the fit on the dowel.
Nothing. You can shape it as desired to have a wider spiral or a more narrow spiral.
Great and creative project, Matthew. Sadly, I don't have the patience to do it. Love your videos. Keep em coming. MERRY CHRISTMAS.

Yup, like you taught us. "Put your own twist on it"

I just checked nothing like on Etsy, or amazon ! if this thing dont make you top ten, I'll send you a sack of Crayfish!

Matthew, you make lots of simple inexpensive wood projects but I haven't seen a wood toy box or storage chest. Any plans for one?
Maybe in the future
Tried to order the rip jig and it got lost :( love selling these trees at our shows thanks for the teaching and help for us beginners!
great video!!!!
Awh man. I think it's worth ordering again lol
@@MatthewPeechWoodworking shows February but ill wait for it :)
Matthew, great build. Thanks. May I ask, how do you finish your tree and what do you use to make the tips look darker?
Tuyệt vời chúc mừng bạn 🎉🎉🎉
AWESOME!! Mathew you bring your followers such great ideas.
I can see expandable for taller ones and make a set.
Thank you. More to come!
Provided you have a sliding miter saw!
You can do it with a table saw, hack saw, circular saw. You do not have to have a sliding miter saw.
You don't need a sliding miter to make these. You could use several things to make the groves. Sliding miter, table saw, router, circular saw, heck, even a hand saw.

@mrbamfo5000 Agreed!... a table saw would be ideal. I get jelly of the Bob Villa guys with all the fancy tool!
If you wanted to do this by hand without power tools, a router plane would be good for the notches.
Hi Matthew, I hope you don't mind me asking, but at 12 mins 39 seconds, the mechanical pencil you have tucked in your cap, what make is it and where can I purchase one from? I would like to get one for my hubby and he said that's the one he would like. I'm from the UK. Thanks 👍 😊
Good catch lol. I cover it in my "Don’t Break the Bank: 10 Essential Tools for Under $30" video and it's linked in that description
Nice build. Not something I'll attempt anytime soon as I'm still very new to woodworking & honestly a bit skeptical of cutting channels out. Lol
You can do this!
@MatthewPeechWoodworking I'm afraid with the old tools I have, it could be difficult. Might just wait until I can afford a couple of newer, better ones. Lol
How much can these sell for?
Depends on your costs, and your area.
You’ll have to test the market. Selling prices can vary greatly depending on your location and competition
❤❤❤❤❤❤

I love the tree 👍👍👍👍
Good idea
The only thing I might add is a notch for Christmas lights around the edges. Just my opinion.
Great idea
Are you the guy from street outlaws
"All you really need is just a bit of creativity" but thats my problem!! Can cut a board to whatever size, just cant figure out what to build with it
We've all been there
These are so cool but they don't sell in my area. Canada has no style
Lol, sorry to hear
Peech actually making a woodworking video?
Haha must be the Christmas spirit
Yeah, threaded rod bends, should you not drill a plumb hole.
I''m not going to lie, that above head camera angle at the start made you look like a gnome. Your ears even looked pointy. Weird but funny.
😂👍
❤😂 🧟♂️🪰😂❤

This is more complicated and doesn't store flat... Longer set up and take down.
