@@ArcTrooper269Those are good, and a lot people would agree that Superman has been handled well in tv and animated media. However, Superman on the big-screen post-80s hasn’t been given the same type of care for his character
My introductory scene for Superman in my fanfiction had him pondering his super-hearing, not understanding how he'd hear cries for help loud and clear instead of them being drowned out by all the other sound around him, but expressing how THANKFUL he was for it because it allowed him to know where and when he was needed to help people. This line of thought takes place as he's en route to the location of such a call, so that he can render assistance. That's what he's all about! Just like you said, that altruism is the very core of the character and what makes him tick. I don't disagree with those who'd argue that it'd get boring if every hero was motivated by pure altruism alone, and that origins where characters are driven to heroism by something happening to them as we see in the likes of Batman, Spider-Man, and The Punisher can be very compelling. It'd also be boring if every hero was a paragon of purity, shades of gray can be damned interesting in a character. But that formula shouldn't be applied to everyone! There's still room for the pure hero like Superman or Captain America, and in fact they make their universes richer and more interesting by providing a contrast which broadens the tapestry of the shared mythos.
The real problem with superman is few people in hollywood respect the character, simply because he has immense powers and abilities which makes people view him as a cheap juvenile power fantasy character. Most of them prefer hard realism from characters like batman, hence why supermsn alwats gets treated inferiorly compared to batman out of shere baised preference. As a result of their immediate dismissal of superman as a character these creatives automatically choose to ignore content that proves otherwise or will make innovative and creative efforts with the character because none of them want to strp of their comfort zone and expand their mindsets.
I can't tell ya how many times I've run into this stale narrative. I genuinely wonder if ppl actually read the comics, or watched the Superman/Justice League animated series cuz Superman is such a compelling character in those mediums. To say nothing of the Injustice Universe.
@redwings0142 agreed, people only find him compelling when his the villian in batman fanboy fanfiction which is actually quite insulting considering the whole point for why Jerry siegel and Joe schuster created superman was because they wanted to subvert the ideology that power corrupts.
I couldn't agree with you more on the direction the movies have taken with Super Simp, I mean Superman. I also enjoyed Batman kicking his ass in B vs S.
It's 2023 and people STILL make up the BS that Superman was causing destruction in MOS? Say what you want, but it's already clear as day that Superman did NOT cause damage in Metropolis in the film and he did A LOT more than just focusing on Lois.
i have low expectations for Gunn's superman for 2 reasons. 1- he's having a few heros in it (they should do it like Marvel and do individual movies, you can see like news reports that mention others to let you know they are in the world and gives you a heads up that they willl meet and team up in later movies). 2- he's going to have Crypto the wonder dog in it. that is one character that should never be in the live action movies.
Bruv…the Zod V Henry sup was perfect. Writing for there fight was perfect by not being perfect. He grew up having to navigate tough choices as an adopted alien/ human, we saw that through the movie. Henry nailed his tough choice pain in the only way to stop a Dogmatic Super being fanatic who would not stop and was willing to take lives at any cost leaving Henry with few to no options and no time to decide how to handle the then threat. He clearly did not want to end it that way and as far as this idea of he coulda did anything else…laughable.
it's the worst thing I've ever seen and it was so annoying to watch. you have to two forces crashing into one another and nothing happens, none of them get damaged and it kept going and going. I was so bored. I'm fine with Superman killing Zod as an idea. But the fight itself was boring.
@@TheWorldsnotenough I literally almost walked out of the theater, it was pure torture to me. I've seen this often from Zack Snyder, it's like there is no consequences from blows when super-heroes fight each other. No injuries, no damage, nothing.
No, it's Batman who doesn't kill! Are you sure you seen MoS? The many scenes with Jonathan Kent? About how the world isn't ready?? Yeah I am agreeing with a lot of what you said. He should have flew away from the city. He should have been thinking about people dying in that World Engine destruction.

(1) Superman has no rule about not killing people; that's Batman. That's not to say he goes around Metropolis killing people, but grappling with that moral problem isn't a core part of the Superman ethos. (2) Superman has no problem killing villains like General Zodd. Many of Superman's villains aren't living beings (e.g., Brainiac).
Superman does have a no kill rule. Batman isn't the only one. Plus, Superman does have a problem with killing. In the comic, "what's wrong with truth, justice, and the American way", the story focuses on Superman's morals and why he doesn't kill.
@@StareachValcin Wait really? If I recall correctly, there was a comic where Superman faces off against the Joker and threatens him by warning that he doesn't have a no-kill rule. Was he just bluffing there? He doesn't want to kill, and he tries to avoid it, but he doesn't have that same rule.
Zack Synder tried to make him a dark and gritty jesus figure in HIS FIRST MOVIE
🤓
he not a Jesus like figure he a nerd who enjoys helping people and doing good

This is a perfect example of a 2nd handed oppinion. You know, like an npc.
