I've been using the Martin Berkhan LeanGains 16/8 IF protocol since 2013 with much success. Extending the time beyond 16 hrs works to speed up the fat loss. The downside for me is that the longer the fast over 16 hrs the less percentage of weight loss is fat and the amount of muscle loss starts increasing. So, for me the 16/8 seems to be the right balance for maintaining lean muscle mass. Something else that is not mentioned in this video is that research appears to show that IF helps with reducing the visceral fat that is near the vital organs. This is a huge plus in my opinion. So yes you lose subcutaneous fat which is great, but the loss of visceral fat is especially healthy. I'm an independent personal trainer and health coach, and I'm currently enrolled in the Precision Nutrition Level 1 Coaching program. I'm very happy with the program.
I did IF 16/8 protocol for over a year. Lost 33 pounds and gained lean muscle mass. I recently switched to fasting 24 hours twice a week on my rest days. Works great.
39 minutes in- I love JB's work, but he is way off base about mma/combat sport training camps-there is no bodybuilding mass gain in pre fight training camps wth is he talking about, skill work and conditioning is what its about.
Actually, he is right. Because fighter cut calories soo drastically before the fight, they lose a lot of muscle. Therefore, having a muscle mass reserve isn't a bad thing.

Very good talk, covers all the bases and seems unbiased in all of his points.
'seems unbiased' doesn't mean anything at all, your comment only tells that you agree with him
Jason fung has it correctly and Ben Bikmen honors it. Science balanced
It's 2020, I just finished reading Change Maker by Dr. John Berardi
As predicted, ~5 years later many of my athletes LOVE I.F. Strong work Dr. JB!
thought the same
23:35, 24:20.... We're still not sure... Weight loss from the fast verses from fewer calories...
44:41... Who might it be good for...
49:20...
I.F is hands down the best fat loss method, diet wise IMO.
Volume way too low.
Concise written conclusion please.
