  • with David Hyman, professional tour guide. The Israel Museum is our national museum and is located in Jerusalem's Givat Ram museum district. The museum has excellent collections of fine arts, Judaica, and archaeology. This tour will focus on two exhibits, that are must-see sites if you have limited time: The model of Jerusalem as it was during the days of the second temple, and the shrine of the book, where the dead sea scrolls are on display.
The model was built out of the natural limestone of Jerusalem at a scale of 1:50 and was based on the historical and archeological sources of Jerusalem. Many excavations were conducted in the city and the results of these digs provide very much valuable information about ancient Jerusalem. The other extremely valuable source is the writings of the first-century historian Josephus Flavius who know the city very well. The builders of the model tried to place each wall and building at the correct location and with the accurate design. The result is absolutely stunning, and one can appreciate the size and grandeur of Jerusalem at its haydays.
The second exhibit we will visit is the world-famous Dead Sea scrolls exhibit that is kept within the iconic building called "The Shrine of the Book". The scrolls are the oldest copy of the Hebrew Bible in the world, they were found in the Judean desert around Qumran and date back to the first century BCE.
This website is excellent for those who want to learn more about the scrolls

You can read the scrolls and observe the original manuscripts
Special thanks to Tomer and Shiri who joined me on the Israel Museum tour, and tolerated my long and detailed explanations. Love you

Stunning video, love the replica of the ancient city of Jerusalem …, wanted to share with you and with Shiri these points:
The First Temple was located next to King David’s Palace.
The Second temple was located close to the High Priest’s Building and the High Priest is the one who ran that country, because Jesus was taken first to see the High Priest and then to see Pontius Pilate, and so the High Priest in Jesus’s time acted as the Prime Minister of a Nation now a days.
This Israel Museum and this replica of the Ancient City of Jerusalem are located close to the Knesset Israel’s Parliament which is where the Prime Minister works.
The Pyramid with eye on top in Israeli Supreme Court is the Novus Ordo Jewish Freemasonry, it is inspired by the tomb of Absalom and the stream in the courtyard is inspired by the Biblical verses that compare justice to water.
    Merry Christmas 🎄

The people of the darkness were the Jews in Jerusalem. The Essenes were a cult living in the area of Qumran where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered. The library they preserved however is a real treasure.

Very nice...In the backfound of some of your shots is the Brand new National Library..built after an International competition..I am wondering if it has already opened or when it will? I believe I read that perhaps 5 story's are underground..I'd love to see and know more. Also behind the Jerusalem City Hall, on a sloping hill ithe new Bezalel School of Art is being built. It also won an International competition and was designed to step down the hill with planted terraces. Is it near completion, or have they stopped building due to the pandemic? Thanks for your tours...I feel that I am almost there with you!
