This VIDEO WAS VERY GOOD! It brought back many great memories for me! When I was in High School back in 1973 in the U.S., I was lucky enough to have been chosen to be a part of the People to People Junior Ambassador Program, and that Summer, a small group of us traveled through Greece, Israel, Iran, India, Thailand, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and Japan. For part of the trip, besides staying in hotels, we also stayed in Homestays with local families! While in Israel, we stayed for a few days in a Kibbutz, swam in the Dead Sea and toured Masada and Jerusalem! Thank you for helping me remember what Masada looked like!

This is really great. When I visited Israel, this is one of my favorite places not spiritually, but historically I thought it was amazing the kind of build that was up there this whole city up on top of a mountain in those days with no machinery. it’s incredible that all these buildings and things that they made so far back are still intact.
I visited Israel in 1984. This place, Masada, is the most interesting and beautiful areas in the world. It should be one of the 7 wonders of the world. I was in the US Army then, stationed in germany. I stood up on top of masada looking down at the remains of the Roman army camps. I thought about the soldiers down there going about their business of the army and preparing for the coming battle. And that was 2,000 years ago. Everything here is ancient.

It starred Peter Strauss as Eleazar ben Yair and had a bunch of other wonderful actors. I was riveted by the story, and fascinated by all of the ingenious engineering that went into building the fortress. Your presentation came up in my RUclips feed as a suggestion for me to watch, which was strange because I hadn’t searched for it. But it’s renewed my interest and I think now that I’m retired and have the time I just might travel to Israel to see it with my own eyes. Also, in the intervening years, I found out through genetic testing that I’m 5% Ashkenazi. So there’s that. Shalom
Thank you for the tour. I love the “black line.” Large parts of sites in the American Southwest were rebuilt early in the 20th century, (including Chaco) and they lack that kind of marking. Later reconstruction would use different colored mortar to indicate reconstructed parts. Thanks for views of the cisterns, bath house and the water collection system. It is still amazing how water was collected and used in the middle of a desert.

This video tour was better than the one i did , in some aspects. Seing the he rooms and dwellings in the video tour was great..and the cistern, i didn't get to see that in person. But the views are stunning. I really enjoyed being there and seing the dead sea. It was spectacular. And i was so amazed at how such a sophisticated structure was built on top of a mountain
I first heard of and learned about Masada from the 1981 mini-series with Peter Strauss (Ben Ya'Ir)and Peter O'Toole.(Flavius Silva) ..since it was on NBC, Peter Strauss who played Ben Ya'Ir, appeared on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson to talk about it just before it was on the following week .

With the way that the walkways are coming from and going to the cable car do not allow one to backtrack, plus my having been in a group that was departing, I would have chased you down to greet you. Thankfully all of our group was able to fly out of the country without issue despite the political protests and strike that temporarily happened.
Was there 2/19 most interesting place. There were many tours going at the same time so not nice and vacant as in your video. You showed a few things we didn’t get to see such as going into the cistern or the ramp on west side that the Roman army made Jewish slaves build. I think our guide said 40,000 slaves but I could be wrong. Thanks for your video. Our weather in February was not that great. Nice to see blue skies!
Hi David, my eldest children and I visited Masada earlier this month. Evenso there are things in your video that were not explained to us while we were there and things that we did not see! Just wondering, do the cisterns fill up now with the winter rains?
Hi Drew, so glad that you are touring Israel in person, and that you are also watching the videos. The cisterns do not fill when it rains, but this is done deliberately , as the the National Parks Authority try very hard to conserve and restore the site.

Hi Jose, thanks for your great questions. King Herod ruled over Judea from 37 BCE and until his death in 4 BCE. All his major building projects were built during these 33 years. He probably used foreign engineers and building plans. much of the building material was shipped from Greece ( Marble) and Granite (Egypt). It is thought that he used local paid labor but also hired foreign experts for special jobs such as frescoes and mosaics. Take care and have a great weekend.

Made the trip to Masada when I was a U.S. soldier temporarily working with the Egyptian Army out of Cairo. Went to Jerusalem first. Then had several choices for next. As a combat veteran I wanted Masada. What a huge decision, Suicide or fight and risk being wounded then Crucified. After watching the invincible Roman War Machine slowly but surely building that ramp to kill you! Then you robed them of that victory. Right up there with the Spartans stand at Thermopylae.

Hi Jackie and Sandy. After king Herods death at 4BCE, his kingdom is divided between his three surviving sons. Judea including Masada are under the rule of Etnarch Archaeleus for the next ten years or so. Arround the year 6AD Archaeleus is "fired" from his job by Roman emperor Augustus. For the following 60 years Judea including Masada become a roman province called Judea. The Governor, or Prefect is sent from Rome and they govern for a limited time. (Pointius pilatus is one of them) During this time Masada becomes a military outpost with a roman garrison guarding it. When the Jewish revolt starts at 66AD, a group of Jewish rebels climb Masada, kill the Roman soldiers and take possession of the fortress. At the year 70 AD they receive a large inforcement by refugees escaping from Jerusalem. The final Masada battle is at April of the year 73 AD. Hope this helps, thank for your comment and take care 🙂

Yes, bus 486 from Jerusalem to Dead Sea area, one of the stops is Masada.
