After testing these out, I am switching to the Variable ND filters from Freewell as my “go to” ND filter of choice. One filter has me covered for most flight situations.
just ordered mine based on your review. Thanks and please watch back in a few weeks to see how my video changes. Thanks again!
@@crowstudios300 awesome, looking forward to seeing what you come up with!
Thanks for your work. Good job.
One question: Do you recommend turn off the gimbal (all M2P) for adjust the filter or it is not too much work for the gimbal?
Thanks on advance.
I got my Freewell VND filters in the mail yesterday and then stumbled on this video as I was binge watching your others! I'm looking forward to trying these out as I start to use my Mavic 2 Pro for more real estate and personal drone video projects. Great job on your videos. Fantastic information. Keep up the good work!
Wow. Very insightful and thorough info on the freewill filters. Thanks. You are awesome.
Just got my set here in the UK, I did research and found that I would be a lot happy with variable for ease than just static filters.
Great review Jeff. Well explained and I liked how you described how the packaging was clear in that you could see in your camera bag clearly which one it is. As always very informative and constructive.
Thanks Ronan, i appreciate the positive feedback and kind words!
Hey Jeff. Well done on figuring out the difference between F Stops and ND Numbers. I was pretty staggered at some of the reviewers who didn't get that. I love these and even did a quick explanation of how F stops relate to ND numbers 😀. Defo happy to leave the lighter disc on all the time...I love it. Catch up soon. Ian in London.
Hi Ian, yep you are spot on with your explanation. Really nice video by the way. I agree, you can pretty much use the lighter filter 99% of the time. Works great. Cheers!
@@JeffGreeneChannel Thanks Jeff. Appreciated 👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you for your time & Effort...
Makes a lot more sense....👍🏼😉😎
Thanks Daddyof13, glad to help!
Greate product. I need this on my mavic air
Hi Jeff.
Great video. I just got the new variable filters but I haven't try them yet. The look good to me on yours Videos!
That's great to hear Alfredo, you will be happy with them!
Good comparison shots. Going to have to get some.
Thank you Sudburydrone, I really like the variable nd's too
Thank for your tips! you really make me want to buy drone
You are most welcome YJP, i would definitely recommend the hobby.
The numbers are more accurate the way the filters label them. Labels them based on stops. Much more simple to calculate.
As always Jeff, your videos are informative and useful. One question please. Do you have any opinion in terms of optical quality with the Freewell as opposed to say, the PolarPro ND filters?
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👨✈️👨✈️👨✈️👨✈️👨✈️✌️✌️✌️💯💯💯🚁🚁🚁🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏👏👏👏👏. Great video my drone brother.
Keep up the good work. Please keep those good videos coming.
Have a great weekend Captain 👨✈️.
Thanks for all you do and please keep flying.
Hi Jeff, quick question - what external hard drive do you recommend for backing up your drone footage? Cheers
great video! What happens if you keep the camera in "auto" while applying the filters?
Hi Riv, that's an interesting question. I would expect the net result to be that you still have better looking video captured. If you start out with an ND filter on, while you are in "auto", the camera would need to make less adjustments on a bright sunny day for example. Aperture could stay in the 2.8 - 4.5 range, Shutter speed (for video) could stay at 1/50-1/60, and ISO would stay in the 100-400 range. The only issue with "auto" is the that the settings can change quite dramatically as you fly in different directions to the sun. Not a big deal unless that awesome shot you were hoping for was right at the same time the auto exposure changed. I hope that helps.
Great video, I noticed that you never show the camera with the Filter with no power on the drone. Do the filters make the camera front heavy? Thank you
Hi Drone It, no issues at all. The Freewell filter is about the same weight as the stock lens.
Just got my Mavic 2, but of course, you published this hours after I ordered different filters. :) Hoe often do you use a polarizing or vivid filter as opposed to plain ND? If I find I need more than ND 16, these look like what I should get.
Same here. Unfortunately they are out of stock at Amazon, so I'll just have to stick with my new ND filters for the time being.
Nice video Jeff!! Looks very nice.
What camera style you have? sharp_cont_satur?
Hi Chris, i appreciate the thumbs up! I am shooting in D-log M, with (+1, -1, 0). Here's how i got to these settings: ruclips.net/video/n8Rnf0jqVRo/видео.html
@@JeffGreeneChannel thanks Jeff!! I appreciate your quick reply.
Great video mate. Are you ok to adjust the filters while the MP2 is turned on ok? I know you did it in the video.
Yep, you sure can, i use one hand to hold the camera still, and the other to adjust the filter. No issues at all.
@@JeffGreeneChannel Perfect. Just bought them
freewell or polarpro variable nd filter? have tried the polarpro vnd?
The only reason the f/11 was "too bright" was because it is a full stop overexposed compared to f/4 with an ND16 or 4 stop ND filter. You are correct that ND filters are the only way to maintain 1/50th shutter speed at ISO 100 for a cinematic motion blur at 24fps. However, it has NOTHING to do with exposure! Had you allowed the shutter speed at f/11 to drop to 1/100, the exposures would have been identical, both with a 4 stop change from f/4. f/11 without a shutter speed change is only 3 stops. You need 4 for a proper exposure, and there is no f/16, so you HAVE to adjust the shutter speed without an ND filter so f/11 is the same exposure for comparison.
How were you changing the f stop in flight? Figure it might be the EV +/- on the 5d button, but haven't fired mine up to test.
p.s. Love your videos and always learn something from them!
Good question DowneastUS, You can use the top right wheel/dial on the controller to adjust the Aperture/f.stops in flight.
@@DowneastUS Thank you sir, where are you located? DowneastUS has me thinking southeast US?...we could be neighbors:)
@@JeffGreeneChannel Downeast is what they call the easternmost part of Maine because that's where the wind blows you. Of course in a couple of months, we'll be in Florida as it gets COLD here. :)
@@DowneastUS ah, i see. That is funny. They call south/east NC "down east" as well in the coastal area. Would like to visit Maine some time!
Do thy have the this filter for the Mavic Zoom?
Hi Tank, at the moment this is not available on the m2 zoom
Tank 62 hey, coming soon for Zoom
i hope polarpro make something like this. but i figured they will lose a lot of money.
I suspect more companies will be making variable ND's soon. Variable nd filters are so much easier to work with.
Out of stock already!
oh man, that is a bummer. Hopefully they will ramp stock back up soon. I'll check back and see what i can find out.
@@JeffGreeneChannel Well, I REALLY wanted this set, so I found the manufacturer on Ebay and ordered there. It will take a couple of weeks to get it, but that's ok. I already have the "old" style of ND filters to keep me covered for now.
You could label your equipment beforehand so you don’t ‘loose valuable time’. Jeez
Those clear plastic lids are fragile from any brand. I’d like the metal tins please, I can easily add a label thanks!
