- Gale force winds and a yellow rain warning was the forecast for the Scottish Highlands and the reason for a low level wild camp at Loch Long. I found a well sheltered spot in the forest and spent a day in the tent.
Hope you enjoy the short adventure,
ATB Stripey
Brilliant Stripey 👏 it all worked out for the better 👍 decent pitch ⛺ well sheltered from the elements 💨 looked like a lovely meal 😋 then the bit we all hate packing up in the morning , nice use of the Upper body there 🤣 superb 👌 atb Brian 👍
Hahaha thanks a lot Brian
Excellent video Stripey😁..Great wee spot mate and the food looked the bizzo..All that wind and rain and you found a sheltered spot.
Cheers
Robert
Thanks a lot mate! Aye was probably the best spot - rain during a camp is nice and enjoyable but the wind....🙄
Cheers

Just so peaceful and relaxing! Cheers Stripey! Brilliant!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🙃😎
☺️
Enjoyed. Thanks for sharing stripey
Thanks a lot 😊
A day in the tent looks almost like a therapy to me 😂😂😂 Lovely video Stripey, thanks for sharing 👍
Thanks a lot MaliceGLA! was actually really looking forward to my day in the tent, just doing nothing and enjoying the sounds of nature 😎👍
Enjoyed that - windy and wet
Have a good Christmas when it comes
Atb 👍🏽
Thanks a lot Dave - wish you also a Merry Christmas 🎄
That looked a very chilled out evening Stripey. Your tea looked blooming good. Thanks for sharing your adventure as always! 😀🥾🏴
Thanks a lot Dave! Yeah is a good way to pass the time during the darker month 😃👍
Cheers
Stripey
Another fantastic little spot and a quality camp, keep um coming Stripey 🙏🙏🙏👌
Thanks a lot Gaz!
Not a loch I have explored much Stripey, I usually just follow the A83 to Inveraray. Looking relaxed even in those conditions 😊, nice model of tent , I have not seen one before. Thankfully the weather is a lot better this week ..
Hi John 👋,
yeah was the first time for me as well for a wild camp. Was once at the Mark Cottage but it wasn't really for me tbh.
The tent is an absolute beauty in my opinion, particular for the Scottish Highlands had already a lot of good wee adventures with it - definitely worth a look when you ever need a new one 👍
Cheers
Stripey
Great video Stripey, sounds of the wind and rain outside of the tent, you can’t beat it especially when your all dry & comfortable inside.
Packing up is always a pain much prefer the pitching & setting up myself👍
Hi thaiwildcamping 👋,
yeah definitely much more fun to set it up, the only thing which is even worse is unpacking at home and drying everything out 😂.
Thanks for watching!
ATB Stripey
@@StripeyHatGuy agree with that 😋
I wish I would have a bigger drying room but when the jackets and the sleeping bag are in it is already full....the tent usually gets over a door frame when it is raining outside - my wife is always excited about that 😂
@@StripeyHatGuy it takes me almost a week in winter to store my gear properly after a trip ...
😳
Looked great! Many thanks for sharing 😃
You are very welcome 😎
Love your beautiful and relaxing videos. Thanks a lot.
Thank you very much mate, means a lot to me!
ATB Stripey
Simply stunning, always love the sound of rain. Brilliant vid Stripey…..helps the viewer relax just watching it, keep smiling 👍
Thank you very much Jeffrey 👍 Was just so good to be out again, nothing beats a good day in a tent 😊
Nice cheeky wee solo Stripey pal. 👍
Thanks Kev! Sometimes it is just good to spend a relaxed day in the tent 😎👍
Just starting watching, awesome Stripey! The loch scene right at the start! Amazing!
Thank you very much Allan! I have never seen Loch Long this 'wild' before 😎👍
Great video Stripey - wooly hats off to you for keeping the camping going in the recent run of bad weather you've had. ATB
Cheers mate, I think it is a really enjoyable thing to do when you are knowing that it will rain, I usually can't enjoy it that much when the rain/wind comes with a suprise 😎
I was out 2 weeks ago in the Scarp1 for 1 night. It was howling and blowing all night but I knew I could sleep safely in the Scarp. Ear plugs in, great night. Keep up the great videos 💪
Yeah the Scarp is a brilliant tent, even when I use currently the duomid a lot I do believe that the Scarp is the better tent for Scotland 👍
Good stuff Stripey.
I've got the crossing poles for my Scarp but I've only used them once, I find the hoop pole is enough in most conditions.
Cheers. I think the crossing poles or not often needed tbh. I prefer them in strong winds and snow probably - said this I have never experienced this much snow Scotland yet 😉. The biggest advantage is that the cross poles nicely increase the distance between the inner and outer tent for ventilation in my opinion, but I wouldn't bother to carry them just for that 😂
This time I had the crossing poles with me as I thought I would camp somewhere else, more exposed to the winds...but I carried them so I used them 😂
@@StripeyHatGuy Snow's coming next week!
Excellent, can't wait!
Very nice meal cooked on the tiny brs 3000 stove ..cheers Stripey
Cheers mate! Yeah a lot of people complain about the BRS 3000 - I must have been lucky with my one as I have nothing to complain about it after 6+ years. Said this I would definitely fancy a Soto Windmaster if my BRS would fail me 😃👍
@@StripeyHatGuy mines 3 years old so far.... theres a lot of fake brs out there (hard to believe i know, but there are) but still u can carry two of them (one for backup) and still weighs less than almost every other stove ( i am such a fanboy of these little stoves lol) ATB
Woohoo, finally another fanboy - hard to find nowadays 😂🙌
Hi Stripey. Lovely spot. Did you enjoy your food? Normally you go “ Mmmm” when you take the first mouthful but not this time. You secretly missed your pasta bolognaise perhaps 🍝. Serk
Hahaha Serk, well spotted! Yeah it was a kind of over cooked and the tattie was rather a mash. The taste was good but the texture was rather....but to be honest, you can't beat a good old pasta bolognese 😎👍.
@@StripeyHatGuy That’s always a downer when you get all your ingredients thinking it’s going to come out like Michelin star food but that first mouthful it’s just not what you expected. Look forward to your next adventure Stripey.
The perfect description Seek, next time I go with a safe bet 😂. Thanks and see you then 😊
hehe, sometimes you just gotta kick back and take the space, being tent bound is often a great we break.
Yeah a day in a tent is absolutely great! Really enjoyed it 👍
👍
Lovely video! It looked so peaceful in the morning.
What was the bag/quilt you were using?
Hi Lloyd 👋,
I am using an Enlightened Equipment 20F with a draft collar. My coldest temperature was -6C in it but I used my thick winter down jacket on top 😎. I can use this one down to 0C, below I prefer my winter bag.
Cheers
Stripey
@@StripeyHatGuy that quilt looks great for 3 season camps but like you said I think a good 4 season bag is best when super cold. Looks like it's going to get pretty chilly over the next few days! :-)
I have recently bought the scarp 1 and not yet had chance to go camping with it. Is your footprint a scarp 1 footprint or off another tent if so what tent. Thanks a lot Stripey
Hi Phil,
I use the footprint of the Lanshan 2 Pro. I have the advantages of it a bit addressed in my Tarpent Scarp 1 review - I bought it from AliExpress 👍
That spot is amazingly sheltered given the weather a few metres away! I've been thinking a lot about the scarp one. I might have to get one!
That frying pan looks good - what is it?
Yeah absolutely Andy. The frying pan is from an old msr cooking set which I got with my very first white spirit burner (1st generation multifuel)..should be around 22 years old. It is a steel msr frying pan - kind of heavy but I am absolutely happy with it 👍. Not sure if msr still does them but the heat distribution is in my opinion much better with a solid bottom than with the 'lightweight' stuff 😉.
Thanks a lot for watching!
ATB Stripey
@@StripeyHatGuy 22 years ago... I always had you as being younger than me. Haha
I hope I started earlier 😂😂😂
@@StripeyHatGuy probably! 🤣
team bonfus represent
Yeah absolutely, beautiful backpack 🤩
I really enjoy the videos thank you but can we ditch the "solo" hyperbole...eveyone seems to be tagging their videos in this way: hiking and camping alone is not climbing the North Face of the Eiger!
Thanks a lot Bill and I kind of understand your viewpoint that 'solo' should be only used in the context of mountaineering even when it isn't mine. Said this every RUclipsr is happy to share his content with a lot of people and companionless wild camp just isn't a term which gets searched very often 😔
Hope you can understand the other side as well a little bit
Thanks
Stripey
...and fair play to you as you are out in all weathers in the Highlands of Scotland and helping others to be more informed and confident to get out and explore likewise. Big Respect
Thanks a lot Bill 👍
Lighten up🙄!
@@johnscot1 yep, another 'Elitist' if u ask me....
Great location stripey, the weather wouldnt bother me that much if i had a couple of nights there, great stuff 👍
Yeah absolutely pete! Really nice location, kind of jealous of the fishermen 😎
