- Wild Camping on Scotland's biggest Moor which is the vast and uninhabitable Rannoch Moor on a rainy and windy day. Initially @WalkWithWallace and I wanted to do a summit wild camp but the weather forecast was rain and strong winds as well as fog on the mountain summits so we decided to head for a low level wild camp in the middle of Rannoch Moor.
Hope you enjoy the trip

Hi Stripey. Not the best welcome at the Bothy hey! I always admire your lightweight gear, just super. I’m enjoying my home made alcohol stove you taught us to make. ATB Serk
No that bothy/shed was everything but inviting 😂😂😂. Thanks a lot Serk, appreciated 🙌
Great video Stripey, enjoyed that mate. I'm pleased to report that I caught that slide too. 😆Roll on the next one.
Thanks a lot Robin! Yeah was very slippy, was kind of surprised that I got a bit of the slip as I thought I stopped recording before - with this performance you can easily work in a Circus 😉. Looking forward to your take 👍
Cheers

@@StripeyHatGuy I didn't watch yours until I finished my edit. Some similar shots at the beginning, but your big camera with the animals. 👌🏼 Mine going out tomorrow evening. 😁
Of course Robin, I mean there is only this much to show on a path 😉. Each camera has its advantages and disadvantages personally I like to use the big one as long as possible or when time is no question...as soon as time or terrain gets difficult I am not using the big camera either...ok and during heavy rain.
@@StripeyHatGuy ha, true. My slightly bigger camera comes out in good weather with lots of scenery.
Rannoch Moor looks like a great place, great camp spot 👍
Great video. Loved the look at the scenery from that path. I’ll need to look out for it when I’m next up that way. Thanks again!
Another fantastic video and adventure thanks keep them coming 👍
Its a very nice and wild place. The kind of nature i love. Thanks for sharing this great video.
Bravo gentlemen.. it's quite a place.. 👍👏👏
Nice one guys 👍 Rannoch Moor looking very atmospheric 🏔 nice seeing some of the locals as well 🐮🦌🦃 great wee video 👌 atb Brian 👍
Thanks a lot Brian. Yeah love Rannoch Moor, such a beautiful place and actually a lot of wildlife, saw also some heron's and fish. Wouldn't like to wild camp in Rannoch Moor during summer so 😂
Cheers

Thanks Stripey! Enjoyed the shot at around 9:35-9:38, fantastic colour and autumn light.
Thanks a lot James! The light was just fantastic in the evening 🙂
Outstanding again Stripey! It looked awesome!!!👏👏👏👏👏👏👏You should have shown Robin taking a dive!!!🤣🤣🤣
Thanks a lot Allan! Robin didn't fall at all and I was actually surprised that I recorded it as I thought I finished earlier. Just very wet and slippy, was slipping myself several times 😎👍
Enjoyed your latest adventure Stripey. It was another great effort especially in the current unsettled weather. ATB Derek
Thank you very much Derek! Yeah the shoulder season is not only difficult weather wise...also what to wear, tends to be cold or to warm during walking 🤔

Superb la'al wander fellas...love that place the view of Rannoch Moor as the mist lifted from Meall Mor was a real jaw dropprer for me a few years back on my first trip to the Highlands..fond memories keep up the good work lads
Thanks a lot Andrew. Yeah is an absolutely stunning place!
Cheers

Hi Stripey, good spot for a wildcamp, that wasn't a Bothy, more like cow shed, that's why you should always make sure that the bothy door is securely locked.
Very true, apparently it is/was used by shepard's, at least this is what is says what I could find online about it 😂
Nice one Stripey. Looked a wet & boggy trip. I remember I walked that way a few years ago heading for the Graham, Stob na Cruaiche. I jacked it after a few hours. Too wet n windy. Cracker of a slip from Robin. 🤭
Yeah a boggy area, wonder why that is in a Moor 🤔😂
Windy strong my friend
That was very noble of you to not show Robin's full-trip! It's no fun crossing bogs.
Hahaha...yeah but tbh. I also don't have more than this clip and he actually managed to 'dance' his way out without falling 😳👍
@@StripeyHatGuy Good dancer, looks light on his feet....... As we say! 😄😄😄
Or just a ballerina 😂😂😂
Looks amazing bud.
Superb video Stripey…..I love Rannoch Moor, just such a wild, rugged but stunningly beautiful place. Great to see you out with Robin again. Thanks for sharing your adventures as always. 😀🥾⛰🏴
Thanks a lot Allen! Yeah Robin is a great guy, always good trips together 👍
Cracking video mate.😍..Rannoch moor looks the bizzo😁 ..The old long nights in the tent 😂..Lovectge new jacket.
Cheers

Glad the weather yielded enough to continue the march. The wildlife shots were beautiful! That bothy needs some work; who remodels them and why was that one so derelict? When you map out your hiking route, are you aware upfront of these shelters and the accommodations they offer? Also, what brand of waterproof hiking boots do you wear for these boggy and saturated grounds? Maybe there’s a video about it, I haven’t seen yet. Your rain gear looked perfect. That was a fantastic camping spot for an overnight stay. Looks like you both had a rewarding hike overall. Thanks for another great video. 😊
Hi Rose,
Yeah there are some bothies which you can find on www.mountainbothies.org.uk/ , others are just on OS maps or its equivalent. This one I misunderstood from the map as it was rather a sheep shed, but when the weather's bad enough a beggar can't be a chooser I assume. The boots which I am wearing here are the Ribelle HD from Scarpa. Usually what I wear are trail runners and wool socks in Scotland - quick wet but also quick dry again - which I believe is for my hikes 9/10 times the better choice of footwear.
Thank you very much for catching up :-)

Great video as always . Looked like you worked hard to find your spot but would definitely say it was worth it!
Thanks a lot Mark! Yeah was definitely worth it, beautiful isolated place 😊
Brilliant video, and amazing views. Atb Gaz
Thanks a lot Gaz!
Great adventure. Lovely cinematography. New sub from me. Just catching up on your other videos 🙌

Hi Black Mountain Adventures 👋,
thank you very much.
Hard to believe that your camp is just a short distance from the hustle of Glencoe. Could you tell me what boots Robin had on, looked like they were a bit short on grip. Excellent recovery though🦿
Yeah is not to far, only 12-14km one way. Not sure what Robin wore but tbh. I slipped several times with my Scarpa an the wet long grass and muddy ground - imho every shoe will slip on that ground.
@@StripeyHatGuy I was in the lake district a few years ago walking down a hill and went into the most comical exaggerated slide almost 'pythonesque'
When I stopped I had to head back up to the start and relive it again😂😂😂
I had the KEEN Ridge Flex efforts on, no boot can grip that mud though tbh, just need to step on the banana skin in disguise and boom youi're away. 😆
First ! 👋 what happened at 3min32, your friend went down? Now I think your a little fussy not to want to camp in the poopy bothy 😋
No he didn't, unfortunately I stopped recording to early. 😂
can i ask how long your poles are set as an a frame? thank you
Difficult to answer as it depends how much space you want to the ground! The poles I use for the duo mid are the BD trail which extend up to 1.40m. after using the duomid for a good year I would recommend poles which can extend to 1.45m or longer A-Frame connectors (easy and cheap to make by yourself!)
You would have been spared listening to "Walk with Wallace" going on about his favourite munros (Talks with Wallace)
Hi Tony👋,
not sure how you mean it but I like to listen to other people's experiences in the mountains in general and as I am basically 'new' to Scotland I am always happy for recommendations - even when I am not a Bagger in a traditional sense 😉👍.
Cheers
