Another thing I find interesting is the realm of truth, the empty white void, I think its pretty cool that its depicted as empty because it is the realm of knowledge, it doesn't have anything in it because its thoughts and nonphysical knowledge.
In my opinion, the only other series that has represented the idea of god or gods in their universe besides FMAB was MAGI. Would love for you to talk about the series as a whole because it’s so underrated
It’s weird hearing truth described as “punishing” the characters, even though I acknowledge that is what he was doing. Growing up I always saw him as an “Emissary to the door” because I guess I miss heard it as the “Door To Truth” so I thought he would be the manifestation of the door and the connection we had to it through alchemy, as to why it would take on our sacrificed parts. On two separate notes, I thought that Mustang losing his sight was a symbolic representation of “going blind from looking into the sun”, so showing what it is to look at the “source of power” with no intent to lay eyes on it or have a reason to open the door as well as having to have some kind of price to pay regardless of reasoning for opening the door And two. Would Izumi having a second meeting with truth technically be her talking to flying organs? 😅
Fullmetal gave word to my feeling around spirituality and oneness that I carried as a kid who was forced to go to religious school, and couldn't quite connect with the teachings those old fogeys tried passing on to me. 14:20 Losing a whole leg must really suck, but given good prosthetics I'd rather keep my arm, eye sight and - ehm... My whole body and trade it for a leg.
Wow, what an insightful and well-researched video! As a fan of Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, I always suspected that The Truth was one of the most powerful entities in anime, but I never fully grasped the extent of its power until now. The way the video delves into The Truth's abilities, motivations, and origins is truly fascinating. One of the things I appreciated most about the video was how it explored the philosophical themes behind The Truth's existence. The concept of equivalent exchange and the idea that there must be a price for obtaining knowledge and power are central to the show, and The Truth embodies this principle perfectly. Its ability to grant knowledge and power in exchange for a sacrifice is both terrifying and awe-inspiring. The video also did an excellent job of analyzing The Truth's role in the show's narrative and how it influenced the main characters' development. The moments where characters confront The Truth and come to terms with the sacrifices they've made are some of the most powerful and emotional in the series.
You said going blind is better than losing an arm… I would rather lose an arm then go blind, FOR SURE! I think a lot of people would probably back me up on that
I love how truth basicly takes the opposite of what they wanted when they performed human transmutation. Edward lost his left leg when he wanted to stand on his own 2, and his right arm when he brought back his right hand man (his closest person was his brother after all). Al lost his whole body, as what he craved the most was to feel the soft touch of his mother again, so he lost all ability to feel. Izumi wanted to bring back her child, so she was punished by being unable to ever bear one again. And Mustang, the one who had a clear vision for the future, had his sight taken from him so he could never see that future.
You know. Truth still chose the one thing Roy valued as well. He took Roy's eyes, when Roy had the vision of the future. But imagine if Truth saw the situation of Roy, choose something different. Taking the toll only from Pride and Wrath, and allowing Roy to pass without a sacrafice, so that Roy can fight Father, even stronger than ever. Truth see everything and knows what Father is about to do. So in forcing Mustang to be a sacrafice, and take the power of god, he in turned would have made the strongest weapon to be used against Father. Mustang. Could have been a completely differnt ending. And instead of using the Philosipher's stone to regain his sight, enlighted Roy, who knows the truth, could see that this power shouldn't be his, and uses the PS to remove the power of teuth from himself.
DragonBall has so many gods you forget that Kami, the name and character, is god; kais, king, grand and Supreme, Gods of Destruction, King of Gods, and the big red guy who sorts spirits
Not only did Ed sacrifice his gate of truth in a moment of humbleness, but he opted to keep his automail leg as a reminder of the damage too much pride can inflict.
Honestly I love the archetype of these sort of gods, not good nor evil, but instead a judge, a ruleskeeper, someone who punishes those who try to fly too close to the sun
I always felt it weird that Truth took away Mustang's sight. That was important to him, so it would make sense that it would be taken away... If he had any actual pride surrounding human transmutation and didn't do so unwillingly. Not exactly perfectly fair in my opinion.
Well Mustang did have pride as he believed he was the only one who could reform the country and change its ways. He was prideful about his Vision of what the country would look like under his rule. Or atleast that’s what I believe
Actually I think the eye aspect is pretty subjective, as an aspiring professional artist i would much rather lose my legs than eyesight, (ofc both are horrible but eyes and hand are my priority) same way colonel mustang, a man with a metaphorical vision, his most valued aspect was his eyes
@@argy7526 being the most powerful entity in it's universe is always an impressive feats. Comparing different verses with each other doesn't make sense most of the time, just cause of the different power systems. Power scalers are idiots for taking it so seriously
I always took the idea of philosopher stones ignoring equivalent exchange as being either a lie, or misunderstanding at best. When it's revealed that they are made with human sacrifices, and they run out of "juice" eventually as seen in homunculi running out of regenerative ability, then it becomes clear they are limited in being able to perform alchemy up to what value was put into their creation. At best they could be looked at as sort of like alchemical batteries where you can store the exchanged value for later use, but not a cheat code to ignore the exchange altogether.
My favourite thing about the truth was when it took Roy's eyesight. It could have taken his eyes which could have caused him to bleed out or something, but no it took his sight. It had to take something, but it was aware he wasn't meant to be here, so it took his sight.
@@noahnoah9274 if you knew how big the universe is in dragon ball you would know that saitama's infinite strength is far from enough a universe in dragon ball has many infinite sized realms inside it and some of them are higher dimensional saitama would need to be 4D in strength and his best feat is destroying a galaxy thats not enough to back up him being on that level and you know universe 7 alone has infinite galaxies
To my understanding of alchemy, the thing being transmuted must also have the material of the end goal as well as the alchemist having an understanding of how much of each element to put into said item which is why turning base metsls into gold was such a big deal because even if the amount of mater of matter is the same, it must also have the same exact chemical components to be equivalent.
I stumbled on Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood by accident not long after it's initial release. As far as I am concerned, it is THE Magnum Opus of the anime world (which is why FMA day is Oct. 3rd). I've watched it all the way through four times, and about to go for a fifth round with my friend Paul who doesn't even know what anime is (bracing for Nina 😢). The representation of God as a reflection of the viewer is perfect to me, just as Alanis Morrisette was the perfect representation of God in Dogma. This was an amazing video. If Paul needs help understanding the nature of God, this is exactly where I'll go. Thank you 😊
Amazing video on the explanation. I would like to offer the idea that Mustang lost his sight due to what he valued above all was to see the country that he would shape in the future. Because of this, Truth took his sight so he could not see what it became.
The philosopher stone doesn’t break equivalent exchange. It is a mass of souls ranging from hundreds to millions. You are essentially paying the toll by sacrificing others.
This is why FMAB is one of my favorite shows. In most shows, you'll usually have characters whose main goal is overcoming God. Honestly, having the lesson be "You're Human" and having Truth be more of a scolding parent figure is a nice change of pace.
Notice how In Buddhism, the "Hun way of kneeling" is a kneeling posture where the right knee is on the ground and the left knee is lifted up. This posture is mentioned often in Buddhist sutras and is considered a form of worshipful kneeling just like you see truth sitting
Philosopher stones don't let you bypass equivalent exchange. They are simply crystalized souls which hold massive transmuting potential. There basically alchemic batteries.
Not sure I personally would consider losing my eyesight as 'better' than losing a leg or arm... maybe thats just personal thought but if i lose a leg i can get a prosthetic, if i lose an arm i still have one left- if i lose my sight... thats it. Blind forever. Mustang only got his sight back through the use of the stone.
From an external opinion of your channel (this is the first video I watch of yours), maybe the pacing would be better if you started the video at 3:38, after you could put the intro segment (and then the sponsor), or save it to the conclusion. Yes the intro stablishes the matter form anime to the theme, but just the title and the thumbnail make the theme clear. Honestly just try different things until the youtube gods are satisfied xd. great vid tho
There's an old book called Isis Unveiled by Helena Blavatsky, from like the 1800s. There's a phrase in the book that says: "There is no religion higher than truth." Hiromu is very well read.
My favorite thing about truth is that it’s payments aren’t even meant to be punishments. It’s not retribution that something is taken. It’s more so that you just tried to buy the most priceless thing in existence with pocket change. And it’s not even going to work anyways. So if something must be taken from you, you might as well get something out of it to satisfy the equivalent exchange, and that’s where the knowledge comes in. I just enjoy that so much. Instead of just taking something from you and letting you go it satisfies your alchemies equivalent exchange and GIVES you something of equal value that was taken. I can’t imagine a more neutral but fair way to make a character.
I happy Square created the greatest anime of all time with a powerful message, characters, powers, villains, morale, honor, alchemy, and most importantly Truth, the top most powerful entity in anime. Truth is not good or a evil being, it's netural testing the person from the whole start and its takes the form of that person it meets being as it says them within telling em of the goals they achieved. It makes me even want to see all anime protagonist meeting Truth and seeing their very own Door behind them that after all reflects their very being like Edward's door we saw symbolizes him.
I love how they didn't make The Truth good or evil, they took Ed's arm and Al's body, but they also stopped The Dwarf in The Glass and traded Ed's gate for Ed's arm and Al's body, it's really interesting like he said in the video his only goal is to hold up the law of equivalent exchange

I love the characters in fiction that are all-knowing rather than all-powerful, mainly because they know as much as the writer rather than the reader.
They technically know more than the writer, since they know things the writer hasn’t even thought of yet.

Okay honestly think at the end of this video you gave some of the best advice I have ever heard from anyone. I believe the same thing, that it doesn’t matter how much money you make, or how much power you hold. The most important thing in life is the connections you make with others and holding yourself accountable for the mistakes you have made in the past without letting those mistakes consume/blind you. I have been watching all of your videos on both NCHammer and WeebCommander since you made the pages and I followed you here from TikTok well over a year ago and I feel as if even though you are talking about anime you always make connections to real life in everything you do.
No lie, I always had a strong sense of respect / fear for this character. They never over used him, was unbeatable and whenever someone came face to face with them they always paid a fair price.
14:30 But Colonel Mustang's eyesight was one of the things most dear to him of his body. He lost the ability to see the future he wished to create. The future he had been looking forward for, even before the ishvalan war. He did get his sight back, but I think, very strangely, that the truth seemed to have punished him as if he'd done it.

Hey, Buddhist studies master student here. Thank you so much for your recent videos explaining a lot of the religious background of some of these shows, your details on the different competing theological interpretations of Sukuna especially has been getting me into the show. As someone who first learned about Buddhism by trying to understand the Paths of Pain in Naruto I know that of it can be kinda confusing and the different sects understanding the Pure Lands vs Reincarnation as well as god as presented in FMA with the connection to the Sephiroth can be a lot. If you ever need a resource feel free to reach out!

The Trusth is honeslty my favourite depiction of God in fiction. It's profound. Its not a condemnation of God or the concept of God. But just simply a lesson in humility and a reminder to live life to the fullest. Its beautiful.
Gotta say this one of my favorite types of videos in storytelling one of the satisfying tropes is when the character is forced to acknowledge all their own
flaws /weaknesses
This was amazing!! Just finished FMA brotherhood a couple of weeks ago and I def had some questions that you answered 🙌🏼
Honestly I’ve been a fan for a while and this is the most thought piece you’ve done on analyzing an anime but maybe I’m bias bc I love fma for this exact reason lol Great work!! 😁
i kinda thought that the reason the Colonel Mustang lost his sight was bc he had a vision he was working towards that he saw for the country, which kinda put him at odds with Bradley,
so him losing his sight would mean he would no longer be able to see the country he wanted to create
But Nick made sense there
That's the symbolic reason and Father states that much when it's first revealed his sight is gone.
@@DrTimes99 okay, happy i actually had reason to believe that to be the reasoning so thanks

Fullmetal alchemist story is such a masterpiece.
Another thing I find interesting is the realm of truth, the empty white void, I think its pretty cool that its depicted as empty because it is the realm of knowledge, it doesn't have anything in it because its thoughts and nonphysical knowledge.
Way better than any top ten. This is the content we need.
In my opinion, the only other series that has represented the idea of god or gods in their universe besides FMAB was MAGI. Would love for you to talk about the series as a whole because it’s so underrated
The only one I can think of now is eternity from marvel, but I'll tell you if something else comes to mind
@pewdie pie not the One Above All?
Dude this was amazing I love it! You really hit some key points here that are gems. The art of alchemy is very important keep making banger videos bro
FMAB may not be my most fave anime, but it certainly is one of the best. Thank you so much for this in depth explanation of the Truth!
This video was fire.I find a lot of things in full metal confusing so I appreciate this
Finally, love your videos btw❤
Everyone is a gangsta till the truth stop smiling
It’s weird hearing truth described as “punishing” the characters, even though I acknowledge that is what he was doing. Growing up I always saw him as an “Emissary to the door” because I guess I miss heard it as the “Door To Truth” so I thought he would be the manifestation of the door and the connection we had to it through alchemy, as to why it would take on our sacrificed parts.
On two separate notes, I thought that Mustang losing his sight was a symbolic representation of “going blind from looking into the sun”, so showing what it is to look at the “source of power” with no intent to lay eyes on it or have a reason to open the door as well as having to have some kind of price to pay regardless of reasoning for opening the door
And two. Would Izumi having a second meeting with truth technically be her talking to flying organs? 😅
I love your ad placements. It makes watching your content flawless.
Fullmetal gave word to my feeling around spirituality and oneness that I carried as a kid who was forced to go to religious school, and couldn't quite connect with the teachings those old fogeys tried passing on to me. I'm much older now and I kinda appreciate that style of understanding worldliness, but I still, in my heart of hearts, believe in the Fullmetal idea of Truth as the One Above All.
If you don’t mind me asking, could you elaborate on your religious education?
Bruh literally mentions gods from three of myTOP 5 anime(Gurren Lagann, madoka magica, and of course FMAB) RESPECT

Is the rejection of the notion of death because you don't like the idea of ending an example of pride?
You said going blind is better than losing an arm… I would rather lose an arm then go blind, FOR SURE! I think a lot of people would probably back me up on that
The Gate is litterally domain expansion infinite Void, but it's the real information and it's everything that it would tear you apart 😭😭😭
It's been awhile since I last rewatched the show. This video convinced me i should rewatch it again soon
THIS VIDEO HITS DIFFERENT!!!!!!! You sir just got a new subscriber
DragonBall has so many gods you forget that Kami, the name and character, is god; kais, king, grand and Supreme, Gods of Destruction, King of Gods, and the big red guy who sorts spirits
also the dragon of the super dragon balls who zeno himself said "he can grant any wish"
Not only did Ed sacrifice his gate of truth in a moment of humbleness, but he opted to keep his automail leg as a reminder of the damage too much pride can inflict.
Ultimate Madoka no diffs
I didn’t know some of these facts, I love this show and there were details I never understood. Thank you for explaining these details !
Actually I think the eye aspect is pretty subjective, as an aspiring professional artist i would much rather lose my legs than eyesight, (ofc both are horrible but eyes and hand are my priority) same way colonel mustang, a man with a metaphorical vision, his most valued aspect was his eyes
The philosopher’s stone doesn’t bypass equivalent exchange it uses human souls as fuel for transmutations

So far, this is by far one of your best videos ❤ FMA and FMAB are my favorite manga and anime of all time ❤
Been awhile since I was so focused and hooked to a video 🍃🎯
Well said bro
Love the way you explored the concepts
I could have sworn the strongest character in anime was The Camera Man
I stumbled on Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood by accident not long after it's initial release.
Thank you 😊
How did Paul take the scene with Nina?
Amazing video on the explanation. I would like to offer the idea that Mustang lost his sight due to what he valued above all was to see the country that he would shape in the future. Because of this, Truth took his sight so he could not see what it became.
8:47 the best thing is that every alchemist who claps their hands to transmute does it in a position that looks like prayer hands 🙏
This was an EXCELLENT video and explanation...WELL DONE!!!
Notice how In Buddhism, the "Hun way of kneeling" is a kneeling posture where the right knee is on the ground and the left knee is lifted up. This posture is mentioned often in Buddhist sutras and is considered a form of worshipful kneeling just like you see truth sitting

I loved this video more than any of your other videos and i love all of your videos.
FMAB is my favorite show of all time and I love seeing people acknowledge the brilliance of the show
Philosopher stones don't let you bypass equivalent exchange.
Truth is my favorite as well. I love the way you described him. It also fits, so well. After all, it is all, it is one, and it is you.
Omfg about time someone did a video on this character thanks
This is an awesome video. I hope to see more things like this
From an external opinion of your channel (this is the first video I watch of yours), maybe the pacing would be better if you started the video at 3:38, after you could put the intro segment (and then the sponsor), or save it to the conclusion.
There's a phrase in the book that says:
"There is no religion higher than truth."
Hiromu is very well read.
Bro did you use some sort of filter, or is your skin actually that good?
"i know this may not get as many views as top 10 strongest characters in anime"
*names it the strongest character in anime explained*
I happy Square created the greatest anime of all time with a powerful message, characters, powers, villains, morale, honor, alchemy, and most importantly Truth, the top most powerful entity in anime. Truth is not good or a evil being, it's netural testing the person from the whole start and its takes the form of that person it meets being as it says them within telling em of the goals they achieved. It makes me even want to see all anime protagonist meeting Truth and seeing their very own Door behind them that after all reflects their very being like Edward's door we saw symbolizes him.
Thank you for explaining this, so awesome.
“There’s only one god sir and pretty sure he don’t look like that.”
