You always give my brother and I the best movies to watch and talk about together. Forever grateful for your lists, you’re the best, Cody! Abigail was awesome!
1. Abigail 2. Challengers 3. The First Omen 4. Boy Kills World 5. Civil War 6. The Ministry Of Ungentlemanly Warfare Great month. Liked all these movies. Really looking forward to May.
I maybe in a minority but I have never understood what everyone sees in zendaya. I think she’s a pretty girl but I don’t think she holds a candle to other actresses like Eva mendes, Jennifer love Hewitt, and Elisabeth Hurley. I get they’re older now but I just don’t get the hype of zendaya at all. I don’t think she’s a great actress either.
That's perfectly fine,I'm a fan of hers, but on you're other 3 picks Eva Mendes does nothing for me,she always wears to much make up,and terrible hairstyles, but again that's my opinion.
She’s got a likable personality and minds her own business. As much as I dislike Euphoria, her acting is solid in it, especially when she has to portray an addict in withdrawal.
I absolutely loved Boy Kills World! It's gonna be one of the most underrated movies of the year but like you, Abigail was my favorite movie of April and favorite movie of the year thus far!
I disagree with your take on the end of the first omen. I’m a fan of the original film and would love to see parallel sequels that were setup. The first omen was such a beautiful film, I believe a new franchise is worth taking a crack at. Excited for the possibilities here!
Abigail is my favorite film of the year as well. Went to see it in theaters 4 times. First time I've ever seen a film that many times in all the years I've been going out to the movies, no joke. During the time it released, we had to figure out a day to put my dog down then it happened 3 days later, so my week went from bad to just flat out awful, and as weird as this is gonna sound considering how gory the film it, it provided so much comfort for me each time I saw it. Scream is my favorite series and I loved what Radio Silence brought to the previous 2, plus I love vampire flicks so I adored this film, and with how fun it was, it provided that film escapism I needed in that period of time. I would've loved the film no matter what time it came out but to have it release when it did helped me a lot and added another layer of enjoyment to the film itself for me personally.
I know you've said before that you haven't been able to watch Midnight Mass for time reasons but if you want a great vampire story you have to check it out, it's so good
Absolutely agree Abigail #1 & First Omen #2. Those were the biggest shocks for me this year so far as well. I think the First Omen is going to be a great companion piece with the original in the future rewatches..
1 The Mummy (1999) 2 The Quick and The Dead (1995) 3 Becoming Immortal (2024) 4 Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare (2024) 5 Godzilla X Kong: A New Empire (2024) 6 Dark Blue (2002) 7 Road House (2024) 8 Damsel (2024) 9 Role Play (2024) 10 Megamind vs The Doom Syndicate (2024) 11 American Psycho (2000)
I got 5 minutes into Infested and had to turn it off because I hate spiders. I made it through Sting but I could not watch Infested, and probably won’t attempt to watch it again. 😂😂
1. Abigail A 2. Monkey Man A 3. Civil War A- 4. Boy Kills World A- 5. Challengers A- 6. The First Omen B+ 7. Infested B+ 8. Arcadian C+ Good month for movies id say
9. Rebel Moon - Part Two: The Scargiver-Because A Child of Fire completely drops the ball when it comes to the setup, this movie has to build on the faulty setup to deliver a derivative, cluttered back half to this story that I thought had quite a bit of potential As a point of reference, I would go positive on the rest of these movies. 8. Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths - Part Two-Much like the first part of this story, Part Two is an enjoyable DC story that works as consumable superhero entertainment, while not being a lot more than that 7. Infested-I checked this one out because the director of this film is directing one of the next Evil Dead films, and with those expectations, I thought this movie worked pretty well for what it was 6. The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare-As a massive Guy Ritchie fan, this film continues his hot streak he’s been on in making entertaining films across multiple genres 5. Monkey Man-Despite not being as impactful as it could’ve been, Monkey Man is an engaging mixture of revenge, action, culture, and revenge, which makes for an impressive directorial debut from Dev Patel 4. Boy Kills World-Even though I still can’t fully grasp what my thoughts on this film are, it absolutely kept me engaged with its style, characters, action sequences, and storytelling, which I can’t say about every movie I watch 3. Civil War-A well done exploration of both journalism and the horrors of war that, in my opinion, communicates its themes and ideas through its story and characters to make for an enriching film 2. Abigail-While it’s not necessarily reinventing the wheel when it comes to this subgenre or the horror genre in general, that doesn’t stop this movie from being highly enjoyable 1. Challengers-Even though I’m not quite pretentious enough to hail this as a cinematic masterpiece, it’s a rather great story that I shouldn’t have found all that interesting, but executing it with style and amazing performances to really bring it to life Here are the April 2024 movies I didn’t watch The Absences of Eden Arcadian Back to Black A Bit of Light Blackout Blood for Dust Breathe Cash Out Damaged Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead Downtown Owl The First Omen The Greatest Hits Hard Miles Humane Irena’s Vow LaRoy, Texas The Long Game Música Sasquatch Sunset Someone Like You Sting Strictly Confidential Unsung Hero We Grown Now Wicked Little Eaters Woody Woodpecker Goes to Camp
I think whereas the whole Snyder thing is concerned, I think both are definitely to blame but I do think it was mostly on Netflix and Zack just going along with it. Look at what Netflix is doing with Cobra Kai by splitting the episodes into three release dates. They’ll do the same thing with Stranger Things 5. Bet. Anyways, they saw an opportunity to cash in on the Snyder fandom with 4 release dates…. Or 3. Netflix and any other streamer will look for any opportunity to milk a fandom.
I did a double feature of the Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare and Civil War and i saw Civil War second, thinking it wouldn't be as good as the firsst and inwas WRONG!! Jesse Plemmons just should've had WAY more air time though, hes so good in nearly EVERYTHING he's in.
They should never have made a remake of Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter is Dead. I'm sorry, I'm Hispanic... And I loved the original. How it's not considered plagiarism to simply race or gender swap the same story is a crime in of itself. Wake up instead of "woke up."
First time we disagree, I just love Challenger!!! They're shitty people but I think that's the guilty pleasure, I did care for them knowing they were really narcissist and selfish! Just love the script, the acting, the music, everything!!!!!
Great rundown. Excellent reasons for points. I loved First Omen (I didn't mind that Damien’s mom wasn't a bitch 😏) and I loved Abigail even though it seems to have deep similarities to Livide (not Dracula's Daughter). It was a completely different kind of horror heist humor. Alisha Weird was great in that (as well as Wicked Little Letters, also a recent release). And I thought Monkey Man was amazing, too. I'd seen Origin when it came out and some of the Indian lore came full circle in my mind.
I totally agree with you on the Guy Ritchie film man. I LOVE anything Ritchie does for the VERY most part and it just ended up being a HUGE disappointment. The story was just way more boring than I anticipated.
Same here Cody ! I enjoyed Abigail even more on second watch ! Not really a scary movie, but just a bloody fun thrill ride ! Looking forward to when they drop the 4K...
I still laugh when some of the Snyder cult members (Syl for one) call Rebel Moon Part 2 as the new best Snyder film. It truly is a religious fervor with those guys
I was loving Abigail in the beginning. Then the middle part was too long, but still like it. Then the ending infuriated me. In all midea ancient vamps are shown as the strongest in the food chain, but a freaking baby vamp was cleaning the floor with an ancient vamp in the end? A bich that got the Loki treatment didn't broke her back? An arrogant asshole who seems to be morally gray with strong beliefs became a B-movie Freddy Krueger by the end? A monster is humanized by the end just in order to pull out a plot armor and saved the protagonist? The first 2 kills are off screen, another kill is just the classic kill we always see in vamp movies, and the other 3 kills are just Ready or Not kills?
Cody, I have you to thank for opening my eyes up to more movies, but also specifically for intriguing me with Abigail. Seen it 3 times and it was fucking awesome every single time. I may not have initially gone to see it otherwise. We’ll have to see what films come out this year, but this very well may stay in my top 3 by the end of the year at least, mark my words. Really enjoyed this one 👍
I dont like eiza gonzolez in any movie. Everytime i dont get into her characters, and i just find her to be an interesting performer. The only thing i like about her ia that she is beautiful😂
Interestingly enough the subplot with the Nazi spy in Ungentlemanly was the only part I didn't find boring. The action scenes felt way too fake and absent of any real stakes. Inglorious Bastards had short bursts of action up until the finale, but those few seconds always left a lingering impact.
Yeah your top 2 I would agree with. The first omen truly was the biggest surprise of this year and Abigail was such a blast. Unfortunately ik May is gonna start off with a bad horror movie with Tarot but who knows maybe I’ll surprise me but i doubt that lol.
For me I just really didn't care for how the told the story, think it would have been better starting at the beginning going all the way to their big match or starting with parts of the big match then telling the story from beginning to end. The way they told it they ruined the very concept they were selling of who is going to "win" Zendaya's love
Netflix doesnt care about movie ratings, lets be real here. This is a snyder issue. Netlfix makes a lot of R rated films, they arent someone who seems to care as its viewed at home. Snyder just needs to make series
Abigail was the most OKAY film I've ever seen. Not really funny, the characters are forgettable, the acting is pretty cringe, and there was barely any gore.
I agree Abigail would be awesome to have seen without knowing it was a vampire movie I love blind watches, but the only reason I even had any interest in seeing Abigail is because I knew it was about her eating these people, it definately wasn't ruined by the trailer, we wanted to see Abigail slaughter people and thats what we got
Infested disappointed me so much. Probably went into it expecting too much so I’ll accept partial responsibility for that. It looked great, the acting was solid, and I love that they went the Arachnophobia route and used real spiders for certain shots. But the characters annoyed the piss out of me and the writing just did not work for me. Maybe it’s partly because I’m not French, so there are probably some cultural elements that I’m just not getting. But the constant yelling and screaming combined with loud, shitty French rap was a sensory nightmare for me. I was really hoping for some more gore as well, and there was pretty much none. It was like the movie equivalent of a subpar handjob. Decent enough for what it is, but ultimately unsatisfying.
All April 2024 Movies I Saw Ranked: 1. The First Omen (5/5) 2. Boy Kills World (4/5) 3. Civil War (4/5) 4. Abigail (3.5/5) 5. Challengers (3.5/5) 6. The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare (3.5/5) 7. Monkey Man (3/5)
10. Rebel Moon Part 2 the Scargiver 9. Sting 8. Challengers 7. The First Omen 6. Boy Kills World 5. Arcadian 4. Monkey Man 3. Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare 2. Abigail 1. Civil War
@4:45 Am I the only one that knows they made a remake also to half baked? After I saw the first review on this all of a sudden it showed up on my ads on my streaming device. Avoid the movie at all costs avoid the movie remake of half baked at all costs
Maybe I was too tired that night, but “Boy Kills World” just didn’t hit me the right way. I’d have to see it again. Sucks that Abigail only turned up a little over $10mil over opening. Sad, when you go to a movie you know is gonna be kick ass, and one I’ve been really looking forward to, the theater is barely half full. Eh. Seems like during my favorite summer of movies (2010) the theaters were much more packed and just an overall more excitement around them.
My ranking of the april movies that i saw 1.infested 2.abigail 3.boy kills world 4.ministry if ungentlemanly warfare 5.monkey man 6.civil war 7.rebel moon part 2 the scargiver. Aside from the bottom two,the other films on my list i enjoyed very much.
Man my April ranking should also include movies I caught up on 1. Monkey Man 2. Civil War 3. Abigail 4. Arcadian 5. Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare 6. Lisa Frankenstein 7. Unsung Hero 8. Boy Kills World 9. Sting 10. Argylle 11. Scoop 12. Rebel Moon Pt 2. the Scargiver 13. Night Swim
Most tarantulas especially NEW WORLD species don't like to bite. It takes too much energy which they need for food. Nope, instead they turn around and scratch off ass hair at you. Yeah, itchy spider ass hair doesn't sound so scary. XD
The spiders in Sting and Infested aren't tarantulas, though it would have been amusing to see a scene in Eight Legged Freaks of the giant tarantula flinging hair at people, probably would have made it even better, though they only fling hair when they are scared or feel threatened not at what it considers a meal.
I knew you would pick Abigail as your favorite movie of the year so far because of your vampire bias, lol. But that’s totally fair and cool. I think Immaculate is the best movie of the year so far and the best movie since last year‘s best movie-Megan.
How did a grotesque styled birth scene make it to air? Very simple they don’t want women having too many babies, making birth look absolutely horrific helps this a lot. No brainer. Thanks for this list
The original "Don't tell mom the babysitter is dead"...is one of my favorite movies in the genre growing up. It's also a great movie about "growing up". There was absolutely no need for a remake, as the original was basically perfect as is.
Just saw CHALLENGERS. *spoilers* I think Art was pretty much the innocent one in this. In the beginning we are told where the relationship goes between the three and so I was rooting for Art and Tashi. But, damn, Tashi done messed up and the last 15 minutes or so you really hate her. Then the ending just leaves you questioning some shit. It was a great film. Would definitely rewatch it. But just how they tie things up at the end and how you interpret can make or break the film for you. And no matter how you do, Tashi is still a b*tch
I liked all of the movies I saw in April, even the ones at the bottom are still pretty good: -The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare: This movie was cool, but it could have been more historical and not just blowing things up. -Wicked Little Letters: This was a cool whodunnit, but revealing the villain halfway kinda ruined things. -Ghostbusters Frozen Empire: I had a blast with this movie, but it was kind of a one-time watch. -Challengers: I really liked this movie, and I thought it had great and layered characters. It's not an all-time masterpiece like critics are saying though. -The Long Game: This was a great movie that I don't hear enough about. It was a serious sports drama that explored themes such as racial prejudice and trying to prove oneself. -Civil War: This is my new favorite of the year. I loved how it wasn't strictly action, and seeing things from Kirsten Dunst's point of view made things interesting because it put us into the shoes of the people who are having to live during this war.
In regards to the last scene in The First Omen, there is like seven years in between The Omen and Damien and twenty years in between Damien and The Final Conflict so there was plenty of area they could have made The First Omen sequels and honestly those could have led to an Omen 5… would they have been good? Doubtful but no one really expected The First Omen to be good.
Completely agree with you on Challengers, especially the comment about too much style. Based on non raves I've read, that is a big flaw for a lot of people. I respect Luca for going a little different. It's refreshing to see a director a lot consider "auteur" to go a little more commercial but I wish he had demanded a better script from his writer. The characters were not fleshed out well, especially Tashi imo
I read they actually shot two versions of the film Abigail as they went along. A pure horror and a pure comedy, so to keep the horror fun of the Final Cut. That’s brilliant.
Loved atleast 5 of these movies actually went to see Abigail for a third time in theaters in dbox and holy shit the roller coaster of a movie it was didn’t compare to the roller coaster that dbox seat put me through lol boy kills world and first omen were among my favorites too
I knew April would easily be the best month of the year but it exceeded my expectations. Challengers, Civil War, Abigail, and Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare are all top 5 of the year for me
You always give my brother and I the best movies to watch and talk about together. Forever grateful for your lists, you’re the best, Cody!
Abigail was awesome!
Yep. Great idea for videos. Lots of these go right into my to watch list.
April is gonna be hard to beat.. you should do a winning month at the end of every year 😂😂
So far April is the best
No doubt
January and february would be at the bottom every year 😅😂
Abigail #1 as far as I’m concerned
Cody... just realized that you are absolutely my go-to youtube film critic now. Appreciate all you do, THANK YOU

One of the best surprises this year for sure.

3. The First Omen
4. Boy Kills World
5. Civil War
6. The Ministry Of Ungentlemanly Warfare
Great month.
That's perfectly fine,I'm a fan of hers, but on you're other 3 picks Eva Mendes does nothing for me,she always wears to much make up,and terrible hairstyles, but again that's my opinion.
You’re not tripping. I’m 31 so I think it’s just an age thing.
At work now perfect timing love listening to your vids during work goes so fast keep making good vids 🙏
We are in need of a good new werewolf movie. I'm pretty confident that Leigh Whannell will deliver with The Wolfman.
Abigail is my favorite film of the year as well. Went to see it in theaters 4 times. First time I've ever seen a film that many times in all the years I've been going out to the movies, no joke. Abigail was for sure the standout this month. Thanks for recommending it Cody, my friend and I loved it.
Absolutely agree Abigail #1 & First Omen #2. Those were the biggest shocks for me this year so far as well. I think the First Omen is going to be a great companion piece with the original in the future rewatches..
I always wait for these monthly videos... hell yea. Great for driving to work
I would love to hear your take on 2020 The Empty Man, it really surprised me and I still watch it every couple of months.
Thanks for this video! It gave me better perspective on some of the films. Also my hubbie thinks you sound like Theo Von lol

I got 5 minutes into Infested and had to turn it off because I hate spiders. I made it through Sting but I could not watch Infested, and probably won’t attempt to watch it again. 😂😂
Rebel moon doesn't need an R rated version. That will not help all the other bad decisions that were made in that film
Absolutely love your videos! 🤙

They should never have made a remake of Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter is Dead. I'm sorry, I'm Hispanic... And I loved the original. How it's not considered plagiarism to simply race or gender swap the same story is a crime in of itself. Wake up instead of "woke up."

Biggest issue with Zack Snyder is he learned pretty much ALL the wrong lessons from the #SnyderCut movement
I didn't really care too much for infested, sting was ok, I enjoyed Arcadian, and I really, really enjoyed the first omen and Abigail.
Interestingly enough the subplot with the Nazi spy in Ungentlemanly was the only part I didn't find boring. The action scenes felt way too fake and absent of any real stakes. Inglorious Bastards had short bursts of action up until the finale, but those few seconds always left a lingering impact.
You never mention the Underworld series. Which is boith Werewolf and Vampires. Dude.
I really liked Ministry of ungentlemanly warfare but I agree about the subplot with the woman on the island. It’s so boring
Yeah your top 2 I would agree with. The first omen truly was the biggest surprise of this year and Abigail was such a blast. Unfortunately ik May is gonna start off with a bad horror movie with Tarot but who knows maybe I’ll surprise me but i doubt that lol.
The only movies I saw last month
2.Challengers
1.Civil War
Loved Abigail, it's crazy fucking fun.
Nothing happened for a hour lmaoo!! And it was painfully predictable and went so soft on the gore 🤣
I felt the same about challengers. Well made but didn’t care for the story because I hated all the characters. It’s getting so much praise tho 🤣
Thanks as always for the content 🙏
For me I just really didn't care for how the told the story, think it would have been better starting at the beginning going all the way to their big match or starting with parts of the big match then telling the story from beginning to end. The way they told it they ruined the very concept they were selling of who is going to "win" Zendaya's love
Can't wait for LONG LEGS. Those teasers are top notch
I can't stand nic cage but that trailer was great....modern silence of the lambs possibly
Netflix doesnt care about movie ratings, lets be real here. This is a snyder issue. Netlfix makes a lot of R rated films, they arent someone who seems to care as its viewed at home.
Snyder just needs to make series
I think you should watch Exhuma, it is a korean movie with subs. It is worth it. It may even land in your top ten of the year.
If Snyder has to keep doing this with his stories, then he shouldn't be making movies. Make shows
im so tired of these black-insert movies. It's 2024...
Abigail was the most OKAY film I've ever seen. Not really funny, the characters are forgettable, the acting is pretty cringe, and there was barely any gore.
April showers bring film flowers....
That sounded more sensical in my head.
Yeah I started blackout and after 20 mins I was like ehhh and turned it off 😂 I should’ve finished but I trust your judgement and won’t try lol
Also I enjoyed sting and Abigail ! Definitely my top picks for April movies.
Bro the ministry of ungentlemanly warfare was my favorite movie so far this year (besides Abigail) I’ve seen it 3 times now 😂
I had a lot of fun with it for sure. It's what The King Man should have been.
Much appreciated brodie

There aren’t tarantulas in Sting or Infested, unfortunately, just true spiders.
NGL if it weren't for Hundreds of Beavers, Abigail would be my favorite of the year (so far)
Challengers and dune 2 are the best for me so far
The original "Don't tell mom the babysitter is dead"...is one of my favorite movies in the genre growing up. It's also a great movie about "growing up". There was absolutely no need for a remake, as the original was basically perfect as is.
Best movies I saw this month:
1. Abigail
2. Abigail (I saw it twice!)
3. Cody promoting Abigail
'Nuff said.
‘It was basically the same movie except they don’t look like us’ -Cody’s daughter, 2024
Just saw CHALLENGERS.
*spoilers*
I think Art was pretty much the innocent one in this.
I liked all of the movies I saw in April, even the ones at the bottom are still pretty good:
-The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare: This movie was cool, but it could have been more historical and not just blowing things up.
Make Aaron Lewis Staind Again!
Review after review, it's clear that you're unable to understand any of them. Maybe you should find something you're more suited to.
I know you dont review books but if you could do a review of the new jaws prequel "the book of quint" that would be amazing
What??!!! I Loved SuckerPunch!!
Same, but it’s definitely a love or hate movie.
I loved Monkey Man that’s my fav of April Abigail was very good probably second fav of last month so far the beekeeper is my favourite of the year
I read they actually shot two versions of the film Abigail as they went along. A pure horror and a pure comedy, so to keep the horror fun of the Final Cut. That’s brilliant.
I couldn't even finish the rebel moon part 2. It felt like a chore trying to grasp or connect with the story. It's bloated and full of nonsense

Staind... yikes 😅
I like how he describes Kaleb from Infested as a kid when he’s supposed to be an almost 30 year old in the movie😂
Im glad im not the only person who was thinking wtf to that "The First Omen" ending.
Well he is doing 6 movies so maybe one will be watchable...hmm never mind
I knew April would easily be the best month of the year but it exceeded my expectations. Challengers, Civil War, Abigail, and Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare are all top 5 of the year for me
Agreed this april is fantastic
Well Abigail’s on my next to watch then!
