Hi All. I am coming back to applique after having adrenal burnout working 17 hours a day. The Covid hit. Am just starting to get back to sewing. Applique seems a lot less stressful to me even though its fidly. I love this old series. Have ordered two patterns that appeal and am looking at my fabrics. I am actually excited. Thank you for keeping your older tutorials on RUclips.
You ladies are marvelous, Jenny Doan and Jan Patek, on all 4 series of Applique Like A Pro. Thoroughly enjoyed each tutorial. Love all the little challenges you tell about yourselves and especially the one Jenny tells about using her husband's head for natural oil.
I watched all 4 sessions today !!!! It's interesting how women through the years have done so well ~~ I suppose it's because we have had women Like Jen and Jenny Doan to help us. So grateful to you for all the help !!
I have watched so many of your tutorials, I feel like I'm glued to my pc! I cannot hand sew to save my life! I machine sew all of my appliques....since watching this tutorial, I am considering giving hand sewing a try...but give no promises on how it will look when finished. Thank you for all the tutorials!!!
I love love love all 1/4 tutorials. Your story's are great especially the one about Joseph taking the picture. It is so refreshing to see how you communicate with us all over the world I feel I'm a long distant relative.
I was given an applique quilt to finish by my friend. I was having trouble with the points and curves. I have finally been given the answers I needed. This quilt was printed in the '80's to the colors are from then. It's like a tree of life. If I ever get it finished I will send you a picture of it. Thanks so much for the information. Joyce Haagen
I love this Applique Like a Pro series of tutorials. There are so many techniques that are explained that would have taken a lot of trial and error (emphasis on error!) before figuring out the easiest/best way. Thanks!
Mrs. Patek has truly made some beautiful quilts. This 4-part series has been very helpful, as have been all of your videos. I live in Missouri, but just not close enough for a visit. I'd love to see your store someday and actually meet you. You're so charming! I've been sewing for about 4 months and trying to sell the things on the Internet. After a few thousand dollars spent for sewing stuff, I've sold one doll outfit for $20. But my best friend has about 100 hats I designed and made for her.
These videos are fabulouso!! I have learned so much from the Missouri Quilt Co. considering the fact that I am an ex-pat living in England and your videos have helped me start a new hobby which is turning into a lifestyle. Thank you ladies so very much, you are loved and appreciated!!!
You know, Jenny, I can't tell you how much I love your videos. I watch some of the techniques over and over -- no embarrassment or bothering anyone except your video, lol. I appreciate your folksy, approachable style that makes any viewer seem like she's in your home being shown by a mom or beloved aunt. And I hadn't bound in a number of months, so I needed to watch the "how to finish the binding" part again. Thank you, thank you! I wish i had made my binding 3" because the backing is a Luxe Cuddle, but it'll just be tiny. And although Donna Jordan said I could finish the binding by stitching in the ditch on the FRONT of where I'd already attached the binding ON the front, I am too blind to make sure I stay in that narrow line with the tiny 2-1/2" binding. So I'll do it your way by hand on the back and be safe. You are such an inspiration and my trusted Internet friend.
Thank you for the full tutorial on appliqueing. I have done it a number of times and with your tutorials I get added knowledge too.i do a lot of tiny handstitching especially on our traditional Malay dress"Baju Kurung" of which turning over stitching is used to finish the seamlines inside the side panels, hemlines sleeves and neckline, also the neckline will be decorated with tiny herringbone stitches to match the fabric. Of course overedging can be used in modern times but I still do practice the handstitching because I just love to handsew tiny stitches. I handquilted my bed qults and most quilts that I had made because I have a short arm sewing machine.
Thank you so much, both of you! I've only appliqued by machine before, but now I'm ready for the challenge of needle-turn applique. Wonderful tutorial!
I am starting a large quilt all appliqué ... Purchased everything and was so excited. Now I have to say I have never appliqués with cotton (only with wool) well.....after a day of mistakes, wasted material, lots of tracing and throwing out I have given up the project. Until now...think I'm going to give it another try with these instructions. I am determined to learn this!
Thank you so much for these tutorials, I had a great time watching it. I always dreamed making a red and green Baltimore quilt, I shall think about, now you gave me the way how to proceed. I wish you a very Merry Christmas, and thank you again for all the pleasure you display with your tutorials.
Oh thank you both so much for these videos! I love everyone of them. I have learned so much watching Jan applique, I'm ready to "restart" some of my projects! Cheryl
Wow! I years ago I tried hand applique and hated it ! But after watching these for tutorials I am going to try again because Jan has made it look so 'do-able'. Thanks Jenny and Jan. :)
Thank you for sharing this series! I want to do the Christmas 101 one because of the camels! They are all gorgeous! Thank you again! Blessings to all in love and light!🙏🏼💜🙏🏼💙🙏🏼🧡🙏🏼💛🙏🏼💚🙏🏼
This has been a wonderful series and I learned several tricks to make my applique better. Thank you both so much for the informative and entertaining " mini-class".
Thank you so much for the needle turn applique' lessons. I learned so much from these 4 sessions. I have always found hand sewing relaxing. Now I really want to get going!
I have 4 table toppers all done except for joining the binding at the end. I can hardly wait for tonight to use this method - quick and easy! I did 5 and after spending an hour on the ending just did the straight line but was not happy with the end results - a bulky seam. Now I have the courage to finish the final four!
Enjoyed the entire series. Thank you so much for sharing your talents in such a fun way. I've learned some more tricks to make my applique look better.
Great 4 part series. So much information, thank you so much. I have saved all the emails that alerted me to the videos so I can watch them over and over. Hope you both have a Merry Christmas.
You two are GREAT teachers ... learn something new every time I watch one of your videos. I've never used freezer paper, but I will give it a try! ( I use the one-sided fusible batting instead ... makes a beautiful "3-D" effect.) Keep it up! Jo Ann
Just Awesome! The two of you are so enjoyable together. I hope you will do more co-hosting. I am sad that I've watched all four and don't have more to see. :)
I just discovered this lovely series through Moda Blockheads 3! Thank you soooo much! I love this pattern and was trying to purchase it but it's all sold out.
gracias por tanto cariño q se ve le ponen a cada tutorial para q cada persona en el mundo pueda aprender tan facil . aun sin saber ingles.bendiciones!!!
Thank you for sharing these videos, you are so easy to watch, makes these inside turns look easy :) Im working on my first applique project a quilt by Lori Smith with very tiny inside turns. Im now not so daunted by the project.
These videos are great. Thank you for making the video! Up to this point, I wasn't interested in appliqueing but now I think I might start one while all the techniques are fresh in my mind. I liked Jenni's Christmas 101. Is there a picture of it to make one of ourselves? Pat
O,wat goed uitgelegd,en de quilts die er achter hangen , nog nooit gezien in Holland .Kan U mij zeggen hoe ik aan het patroon kan komen ? Zo mooi die bloemen .
Thanks for another great tutorial. I noticed that when you turned to the back of the quilt to hand bind it there was no raw edge there, but I did not see how you got rid of the raw edge. I saw when you ironed the binding, but that us all you did. Is the finished edge the middle part of the strip that was ironed?
Hi I love your projects. I am from Sri Lanka. We do not Have Freezer Paper in Sri Lanka. Is there a substitute that I could use instead of freezer paper. I see you use Freezer paper a lot. Please advise. Thank you .
When you do a "Basting stitch" on the bottom of the tree, where it's suppose to attach to the trunk of the tree, do you go through 1 layer or both? Does that stitch come out after it's attached to the trunk?
I went looking for this pattern "Christmas 101" that Jennie mentions at the end & see it's no longer available. Is there something similiar to it that would be available?
I bought this and I started it yesterday. As I was organizing my material and my direction. There is no directions for the measurements on how to cut the fabric. I can cut out all of the things that can be applique, but fabric that needs to be sewn together. like the blocks on top of the piece and the blocks where the flower is. Did I get the wrong set of measurement's for this project?
Jen and Jan. They’re such treasures!
Jan is just like Jenny.... a Trip... love listening and watching you 2 girls...

Loved the entire series of Appliqué Like A Pro. Such wonderful humour from both Jenny and Jan. From an English quilter xx

I especially loved all the close ups in this final applique video. Beautiful, fun AND inspiring!
Thank you so much, both of you! I've only appliqued by machine before, but now I'm ready for the challenge of needle-turn applique. Wonderful tutorial!

Very nice and helpful series. I learned needle turn when I first learned to quilt, but haven't done it in awhile. Thank you for the reminder!
Oh thank you both so much for these videos! I love everyone of them. I have learned so much watching Jan applique, I'm ready to "restart" some of my projects!

Dawn from Australia
Great 4 part series. So much information, thank you so much. I have saved all the emails that alerted me to the videos so I can watch them over and over. Hope you both have a Merry Christmas.
Love your tutorials! Just a note that "Thread Heaven" is super for keeping thread from knotting. I use it all the time and find it great!
Thank you so much Jan and Jenny for sharing this! What a great Christmas present to every quilter.
Thread is directional. Knot the thread end that is closest to the spool. This reduces tangles :)
Thank you for this video series! Jen, I have trouble with "pointed humps" as well. This looks like something I can definitely try. Thank you again!
You two are GREAT teachers ... learn something new every time I watch one of your videos. I've never used freezer paper, but I will give it a try! ( I use the one-sided fusible batting instead ... makes a beautiful "3-D" effect.) Keep it up! Jo Ann

Pat

Fabulous series.....loved it. Thank you so much.
Please let me know what I could use instead of Freezer pAper. It’s not available in Sri Lanka.
These are all wonderful tutorials! Thank you so very much for them.
Good suggestion @Sediklah - we'll try to keep the close up shots a bit cleaner!!
O,wat goed uitgelegd,en de quilts die er achter hangen , nog nooit gezien in Holland .Kan U mij zeggen hoe ik aan het patroon kan komen ? Zo mooi die bloemen .

The ladies are hilarious! Jen looks tiny next to Jenny!! But you could see how they respect each other's company. :-)
when you thread you needle for applique do you use a single strand of thread or do you use double strand knotted together?
Love you gals - I learned so much and had a smile on my face the whole time. Thanks
How do you curve a bias strip? Everything in these 4 tutorials is perfectly straight. I like to do some curved tree limbs.
I love your tutorials....

Have Freezer Paper in Sri Lanka. Is there a substitute that I could use instead of freezer paper. I see you use Freezer paper a lot. Please advise. Thank you .
Thanks girls. You have helped me a lot.
Also, I forgot to add...Jan's patterns are beautiful!
When you do a "Basting stitch" on the bottom of the tree, where it's suppose to attach to the trunk of the tree, do you go through 1 layer or both? Does that stitch come out after it's attached to the trunk?
YOU COULD USE THE INTERFACING THREAD IT WORKS GREAT
How do we start working with applique ?? Are there lessons beside the one we are watching ??
It is really kool the things that you know, thanks so much! Catherine Crouse
thanks alot for this video!
Just a quick question please: when doing all this applique do you use a hoop to hold it in place or is it always just freehand? Thank you again!!!
Bernadette Banner states that Victorian seamstress also waxed their threads to strengthen the natural fiber threads.
It might help to tell how, as you make a stitch your little finger is putting pressure on the piece. If not the piece will be floppy.
Do you have a trace line both on the inside and outside of sewing
I went looking for this pattern "Christmas 101" that Jennie mentions at the end & see it's no longer available. Is there something similiar to it that would be available?

What does the backside look like, if you want to use as reversible place mat?
I have to ask who does your closed captioning. It is more entertaining than accurate. :)
I would like to know the best way to remove the back of the heat and bond please I need help
