    Thank you for sharing. What wonderful insights. We recently flew from DC to Madrid and were booked on Delta. Due to weather and flight cancellations, they rerouted us on British, who very kindly and unexpectedly bumped us from business to 1st class on the 747-400. It had been decades since last spending time in the nose of the big bird (my father was a Pan Am pilot). The ground and flight crews could not have been any more prepared or gracious and professional. World class all the way. Thanks again.

    It was so different at the beginning. I was MF at the start and we were FIRST trained as part of our initial training course. Imo the way it’s done now is better. Some of the younger NE’s struggled in FIRST. I’m happily retired now two years, but look back with some fond memories. Anyone who was with MF at the beginning will testify to the brutal flying schedules we we forced to endure, like single night stop GIG. A lot of crew were so exhausted they went sick. And crew turnover was less than two years on average. Plus we had no union to improve things for years, which I think BA was happy with. The MF strike made the company sit up and take notice. Things look different now but challenging times now for all airlines. So good luck for the future. And my advice to any crew is to join MFU.

I always found myself flying the A position so my friends said I should just go on become a Purser/Chief Flight Attendant. So, I took our classes and got promoted and yes the salary pay is more than a regular flight attendant but you work with a great team of flight attendants and the job of leadership becomes easy...I have flown on British Airways on my own and I do love seeing your cabin crews working the flight. Well, continued success with your career. Fly safe always....

      Most non African international carriers do not allow their crew to leave their hotels in some African destination. Its for various reasons, the main ones being, political unrest, demonstrations, potentially unsafe food and water and higher levels of crime. If one crew member was injured or suffered food poisoning, then the fight would be grounded causing massive disruptions to passengers and the airline. They would have to fly in another aircraft and crew at a cost of hundreds of thousands of pounds. So keeping crew in their hotels, reduces the chances of anything happening to them so they can stay on schedule and take themselves and passengers home the following day.

    2. When its the service Time and if there is your other colleague who has a problem with handling alcohol, so if he asks you to do it and in return he takes your later food service or any other duty, is this possible? Or things are fixed?

    How could a short haul have a 12 hour layover though? Say you fly to Rome and the plane has an hour turnaround, you wouldn't be on that flight back to LHR? Because planes on short haul generally don't fly for 2 hours then spend the night in that destination

    • @themayburys
      @themayburys  6 лет назад

      sometimes you do there and backs where you go straight back with the plane, sometimes you stay over. Some destinations have like 7 flights a day so there's plenty of variations on the length of layover depending on which one you come in on and which one you go back on.

    Here's a question that I have long wondered about - if you are on a long haul flight, say to the US, what happens if a crew member gets sick and cannot fly home? Do BA fly someone else out? Presumably there are no spare staff in remote places?
    I'm not sure you are still doing these videos (which I enjoyed) but just in case....

    • @themayburys
      @themayburys  5 лет назад

      The majority of the time you will just fly back 1 crew member down. Most long haul flights operate with more than the minimum required crew (usually 2 or 3 more) for service reasons. If for some reason the flight operated outbound with only the minimum crew (during a strike for example) and someone was ill, then yes you would need to find a crew member from somewhere. If the ill crew member made themselves known before the plane takes off from London then a crew member on standby could deadhead to the location and operate back straight away.

      wot? I was asking whether cabin crew do longhauls and shorthauls or only shorthauls etc, my reference to pilots was only because pilots can only fly what their aircraft limits to them

    I have often wondered why it is called a "cabin". The interior of an aircraft doesn't resemble a shack in the woods in any way. lol

    Can you use your phone during the flight? Except landing and take-off, right?

    • @themayburys
      @themayburys  7 лет назад +1

      +Dung you can use your phone as long as it's in flight safe mode

    Hey pal. This is the 1st video i watched on yr channel and pardon me if u did answer this before. Do u tend to overspent with all the traveling? Or do u have a way to control the budget?

    • @themayburys
      @themayburys  6 лет назад

      It can be easy to overspend if you're constantly doing activities all the time. But, once you've done all the routes you tend to calm down as you've done most of the stuff in that destination

    My question is do you first do a cabin crew course through college and then apply for the airline? Or do we just apply for an airline and they train us?

    Hey! When you were BA cabin crew, did you get discounted flights on other airlines? If so roughly how much, I am thinking to apply to BA Heathrow but I wish to commute on my days off back home to Belfast. Thank you.

    Hello Mayburys, nice video. How often do you fly on board A380-800? Greetings from Poland for You ☺.

    • @themayburys
      @themayburys  7 лет назад

      Hello Marius, thank you! I fly on the A380 roughly once a month, I could get 4 flights in one month or I could get 1 in 3 months but on average once a month. I need to fly on it at least once every 3 months to keep my recency.

    Loved your video! Did you had to learn a second or third language to be a flight attendant? Could you do a video on what are the requirements( in general) to be a Flight Attendant?

    • @themayburys
      @themayburys  7 лет назад +1

      Thank you! No I only speak english. Most airlines would like you to speak english. But it does look good if you speak another language too.
