The true reason we use the word "meia"(half) replacing "seis"(six) in individual(mostly phone) numbers is in order to avoid confusion between the similar sounds of "seis"(six) and "três"(three) into the ears of the listener.

I've just started familiarising myself with Brazilian Portuguese as I am heading to São Paulo for 3 months in the new year. I can speak Spanish (kind of jaja) so I often mix up vocab!
