Pro tip. If you never want the airline to lose your bag pack a firearm in it. Most airports hand walk luggage with a gun in it to and from the cargo hold of the plane. They don't like to take the chance of not being able to account for where a gun is.
Great side note!
malicious compliance at its best
Dumb question if I may. So I can pack my stored firearm once I complete the declaration process and have it secured? Thanks!
Do you mean if you don't want the airline to lose your luggage I'm not understanding that sounds like if you meant if you don't want them to lose your luggage pack a gun in it
To avoid headache and unwonted scrutiny, DO NOT leave ammo in the magazine, pack it in the original manufactures box or an aftermarket container designed to store ammo. Do not dump them into a Ziplock bag. Every airline is different and sometimes they don't even know their own rules. Also lock the slide of your firearm back if possible and don't insert an empty mag into the firearm. This should eliminate any excused for anyone to give you trouble. Last make sure that if the box you're using has three lock holes, you have three locks on it Do not leave any lock points without a lock and make sure that once locked, the case cannot be opened more than 1/8 inch with the lock on it or they "may" say that case is insufficient. So I wouldn't use the hard case your gun came with since they are too flexible.
Amazon has some good ones for very reasonable price
Can you use the hard box that came with your gun ?
@@terryspradling7453 TECHNICALLY IF IT HAS A DESIGNATED HOLE TO PLACE A LOCK YES!!! HOWEVER, I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND JUST PAYING AROUND 50.00 FOR A DESIGNATED FIREARM SAFE SPECIFICALLY MADE FOR AIR TRAVEL!!! REMEMBER YOU WANT TO AVOID ANY SITUATION WERE THE TSA OR AIRLINES DEEMS IT NOT APPROPRIATE FOR TRAVEL!!! DO NOT STORE AMMO IN THE MAGAZINES!!! JUST LEAVE IT IN ITS ORIGINAL PACKAGE!!!! ALSO WHEN I TRAVEL JUST AS AN EXTRA SAFFY PRECAUTION, I ALWAYS PUT THE ORANGE SLIDE LOCK THAT EVERY FIREARM COMES WITH ON, JUST TO SHOW THAT IM MAKING EVERY POSSIBLE SAFTY MEASURE I CAN MAKE!!! DONT LOOSE YOUR KEYS ALWAYS KEEP ON YOU!!! SOMETIMES THE AIRLINE AGENTS WILL HAVE YOU OPEN YOUR CASE SO VISUALLY SEE THAT YOUR IN COMPLIANCE. ALSO IF YOUR CASE HAS 3 LOCK HOLES, USE THREE LOCKS. IF IT HAS 10 LOCK HOLES USE 10 LOCKS!!!! IF YOU HAVE THREE LOCK HOLES AND ONLY USE TWO, THAT CAN BE AN ISSUE. AND MAKE SURE THE CASE CANT BE PRIED OPEN AT ALL WITH FINGERS!!! AT ALL!!! AND MOST IMPORTANT MY FRIEND, “ALWAYS” KNOW THE GUN LAWS WERE YOU ARE TRAVELING TOO!!! STUDY THEM BEFORE YOU GO!! JUST BECAUSE YOUR LEGAL IN YOUR STATE DOES NOT MEAN ITS LEGAL AT YOUR DESTINATION!!
You couldn’t be more wrong. I fly dozens of times a year and fly with loaded magazines. I also fly with magazines inserted into firearms. Please keep your comments to yourself if you do not know what you are talking about.
I just flew and the hard case I have has clamp locks plus it has six lock holes I called TSA they said one lock would suffice but I used two to cover myself.
Finally some visual and straight forward information.
This is the first time I've ever been told that the magazines can travel loaded. I would not chance someone scrutinizing this procedure.
Best video on the subject I’ve seen. Simple and to the point. Thank you 🙏 great job. 1st time Go following the instructions
By far the best vid TSA had created. Thank you, very helpful.
You can pack ammo in magazines depending on the airline. Southwest for example allows this. Done this 15+ times out of many states and it’s literally never been an issue.
This practice is tsa approved but many airlines require the mags empty.
Thank you. Do you know about Delta?
@@jonmaster714 yes, as in Delta is ok with one leaving ammo in the mag?
@@ewilson0223 Best to contact them directly but YES should be fine.
Southwest 👍🏻
Delta 👍🏻
Spirit 👍🏻
United 👍🏻
American 👎
That’s all the experience I have
What about united? Lol
Thanks. I have flown with my handgun in my luggage no problems. I only fly once every couple of years so it's nice to review and update for any change.
Thank you for the full! explanation. You are the first person to clearly state the declared and locked firearm can be put back into your suitcase. Up till now I was uncertain whether the locked case was its own baggage or if I could include it with my checked bag.
I have been traveling with a firearm in my luggage for several years. Following his advice I have never had a problem. Only different info I got was once years ago I was told do not send loaded magazines through so I haven’t since.
Make sure to call your airline and ask questions
American requires you to remove the ammo from the magazine and it must be stored in the original packing or small ammo storage case. Delta allows you to keep the ammo in the magazine.
Airline AND TSA don't know the rules. I had ammo in the mag and they swore up and down that it needed to be in a cardboard box "for safety" so their "safe" solution was to have me dump live ammunition in the trashcan right there in the airport baggage check area full of people and kids. Yes, they wanted me to dump live ammunition in a public trashcan.
Thank you for a great straight up video!
I did let rhe ammo on the magazine and it was crazy they call TSA agent then they call local police they take information and trying to look on tsa policy of ammo at the hard gun box etc... Finaly they let me go say sorry you are doing right way have nice flight ✌️
Very informative thank you
This morning I flew Alaska Airlines using this EXACT same case and the check in woman immediately flagged it. She claimed she could grab a gun from inside and we were delayed 30 minutes. Had to get my wife's lockable suitcase back from TSA to store this case inside. Not TSA approved.
Very straight forward and clear.
Surprisingly....
TSA rules I’ve checked says no from what I understand. Ammo in a separate container from mags. Dumb IMO Ammo is better secured in a magazine vs styrofoam and cardboard but what can you do?
That’s about the nicest 1911 replica 👍
So I carry my locked case to the counter to declare? Then put it in my suitcase?
So do I call ahead to declare I will be traveling with my firearm cuz you said you don't go to check in so where do you go or do you call your airline first how does this work need more info
Any idea how to bring a gun that i bought from philippines to utah usa? What is a legal process? Do you have any experience traveling abroad with firearms?
Imagine having a carry permit and thinking you could take your weapon on board the plane with you. 😂
Am I able to take travel with it without a concealed carry permit ?
Imagine being such a brainwashed moron that you think you lose the 2nd amendment right because you are traveling
@@BigMamaVeeyeah probably, concealed carry allows you to carry a gun on your person in public. But if you are transporting guns in a box, or a suitcase like that, then you are not carrying the gun, you’re just transporting it.
In 2021 NY arrested me and after I declared my gun for my flight back home to California. They tried at first to steal my gun cause there was pry makes all over the metal case that had a wire rope attached to the inside of my checked in luggag , it wasn’t the tsa it was the local Albany police who charged me with not having a license to own a gun in the state of New York and for not being a resident. I had to go get a lawyer from Albany NY, pay $4000 to get a federal weapons charge reduced to a mister meaner and a probation of good behavior in NY for 1 year. So NY kept my gun and stole my money, since 2021 I’ve never traveled to NY ever again. It was my first and last vacation trip there.
That’s wild they set you up let you come into the state knowing you didn’t have a NYS License (Unless you didn’t declare before the first flight which I doubt unless their TSA is that bad they let you sneak a gun through) set you up I don’t get why there’s so many different gun laws and this and that man why does it matter where I WANT TO OWN MY GUN find a universal set of rules no felony’s etc no gun violence charges and boom your good
It's the responsibility of the firearm owner to know the laws of the state that you're traveling to. Be glad that you weren't in NYC when it happened. Mandatory 1 year jail instead of that misdemeanor option.
😱😂🤦🏻♂️
Ny to a democratic state what do you expect, their firearms laws sucks that’s why they have so much crime.
@@richiev63 In his case it was a "mister meaner"....
Depends on airline, you BEST make sure you pack ammo separate.
Every video I’ve seen, including from the TSA says you can put the ammo in the manufactures box right next to the gun in the locked box. Everyone of these people are wrong, including the TSA?
The constitution says I can take my guns anywhere I want when I want to do it. Laws violate my rights!
It’s tooo muchhh 😐
Never separate so from the firearm. Ammo signifies there's a firearm somewhere and declared or not they want to match it to confirm the firearm was declared properly. Bad advice unless you like answering LEO questions. Follow these clear steps and you'll be fine.
@@bxi1547 You have a right to travel with it, sure. You dont a right to fly with it though.
What kind of lock ?
Do they ask for any gun registration or things of that such?
So I could use the original OEM case, declare it, then stuff it in my checked suitcase?
If the OEM case has holes for a lock and you lock it, then yes. Glock cases, for example, do not have any holes for locks, so you have to buy an aftermarket case or mofidy the original to accept a lock.
you can not pack ammo in your mags... original box
Not true. It can be in mags.
So every airline is different when it comes to that
Yes, you must comply with the airline’s rules AND TSA. Airlins can make their own rules and they do differ.
No.
Fun fact: plenty of original boxes do not comply with TSA or airline guidelines. Cannot be bulk packs where rounds are loose in box.
He also forgot to mention get to the airport an hour or two before checking your luggage in.
so I’m in Indiana ( a open carry state ) and was trying to go to flordia where it is still illegal I was wondering is my Indiana license to carry valid in flordia?
Google is free, look up your conceal carry permit reciprocity
If you want a good app for your phone that updates regularly with this information, there's an app called Legal Heat. You input what permits you have in which states, and it'll give you a visual map of states you can and cannot carry in
i wounder if this apply in Ny. herd & seen horror story's of people being arrested just for passing through. like for layovers and transferring flights.
It's the same rules for every single airport in the country. The horror stories you heard were just that, stories. I've traveled at both JFK and LaGuardia just fine with the firearm
@tubz One story was on the news a few yrs back. Saying NY was arresting people and hitting them with felonies for unlawful possession. Just for passing through jfk & Laguardia.
@@tubz Things have happened, but the firearm owner's protection act absolves you from many state laws which you are passing through.
@@tubz you really might have tried googling this information before making an ass of yourself saying something that’s not true. People have absolutely been arrested in these airports. they are not just stories.
@tubz I'm assuming you're licensed in NY right?
The "Unloaded" affidavit does NOT go on the inside of the firearm case if it's going to be stored within your checked luggage. The TSA is wrong on on this point. I've had numerous TSA officers tell me "Never open the firearm case in an airport!" Put the Unloaded affidavit on the outside of the box, secured with tape, and then close up your checked luggage. Opening the firearm case in an airport is a safety issue. I wish the TSA would get it's act together on what is the proper procedure. Videos like this are one if the reasons we don't trust the TSA. No consistency or alignment with the law.
If they need to check the information on the back and pull it off, would it be possible for the sticky tape to come off later with that paper attached?
I had the gate agent REQUIRE that I open the gun case.
Y’all I’m not checking in a bag but I want to bring my firearm what do I do? Do I have to pack it in a separate bag and check that in or do I just need to bring it in the case?
You can check just the case, but I wouldn't want it in a case that has any firearm company logos on it. Just something like a plain Pelican case.
@@ethinos2719is it okay if it has a logo on it tho. It’s the only case I have it’s sig?
@@ethinos2719 why no logo
Secure with your personal lock NEVER with a TSA tupe lock. TSA locks are universal and can be opened by anyone.
Hey, bro. What kind of lock?
@@danerattan6827 Any lock that will fit and you and only you have the key or combination
@@danerattan6827
If you have ever seen a lock with a red diamond on it, that is a lock specifically designed to be accessed by the TSA. The big problem is that TSA locks have a universal key and are TSA locks are easily picked, bypassed or opened with a duplicated TSA key.
Most locks are garbage. Even big brands like MasterLock
@@danerattan6827 medeco lock
sounds like the happy south to me :)
I wonder who else they disclose this information to 🤔
Everyone? Why does it matter?
Can I store the empty magazine in the gun?
It's best to store the magazines not inserted into the magwell.
Do you typically have to pay to check in a firearm?
No.
I’m pretty sure everyone prefers getting eaten alive by a grizzly instead of getting caught with the speaker
What about if you don’t have a suitcase but only carry-on?
Then you need to purchase a checked bag and check your firearm… Pretty self explanatory
In that case it's OK to bring it in the cabin with you. Just explain that to the agents and try not to shoot anybody.
Do not have loaded mags
I fly dozens of times a year with loaded magazines.
@@aarondmason808 what airline? I fly delta and am wondering
Do not use TSA approved locks. Nobody at TSA has authority to unlock or handle your firearms without you present. If they cut your locks and handle your firearms without you present, you just won the lottery for a slam dunk lawsuit along with them facing federal charges.
so any lock will work?
Don’t use TSA locks
I had a gate agent call the cops and MAKE me take the ammo out of the locked case…and put it loose in the luggage!! Zero common sense!
Do I need ltc to bring my gun in luggage
how the hell are they supposed to see the card if its in the box with a lock on it??????
I would guess with some sort of x ray
They usually tape it to the outside of the case if it’s a small pistol case inside a suite case.
Tsa doesn’t need to see the card to regardless. Lol
X-rays

What about just carrying optic for a rifle?
Website TSA says you can carry’s cope only on carry ons too
@@sebastianbotero8877 great, do i have to put it in a general backpack or i need to buy pistol case for it?
I love you
Miami Airport American airlines made me unload my brand new clips and kept my ammo, better to put ammo in the original box
You cannot use firearm magazines or clips for packing ammunition unless they completely enclose the ammunition. TSA...
What about flying internationally? What documents are required?
Do I need a ccw license to travel on the plane too?
No, because you are not carrying the gun. You are only transporting it. You can transport unloaded firearms without a carry license.
@@NurseNick420 thank you
Just be sure that your home state CCW is valid in whatever state you're traveling to.@@kierahalexis
If only the TSA Agent here was present when thousands of Americans TSA compliant property were taken by security staff unfairly.
Well I haven't traveled by plane in over 10 years, and if I ever do again I'll make sure that I Insure my Firearm for 100,000.00 dollars and if you lose it then the airline is out 100,000.00 dollars???.
The airline is out $100,000? No, the airline would be out replacement value or whatever the contract of carriage stipulates. Your insurance company would be out $100,000.
That’s not how insurance works. Be insuring, say, $500 worth of guns for $100k you will be wasting a lot of money by buying $99,500 worth of unnecessary insurance. Insurance products of anytime will typically only pay up to the “actual cash value” of the item insured.
I’ve heard enough about peoples guns getting lost to just not fly with one.
🚗
So one lock or 2
Be sure to lock all latches on your case that allow you to place a lock on them.
Who gets the 🔑?
From TSA's website: "Only the passenger should retain the key or combination to the lock unless TSA personnel request the key to open the firearm container to ensure compliance with TSA regulations."
Do I need a concealed carry license to transport my firearm on Amtrak?
I believe so. "You can not travel with a firearm in public transit, with the exception of CCW license holders." or something like that I have read
Amtrak is no different than an airport.
Soon this will be gone because terrorist don't comply with this.
None of what you said makes sense. People fly with guns all the time.
Very informative thank you
